how in earth you bet 1.4k to win 10k with only 2 mins and the score to be 4-1.
that was the most lucky gamble ever for the layer. plus that the goal came the last 10 secs and have 1.05 11k to lay.

As it happens to me .. when I back unders in a game.. it ends up the highest scoring in the league... When I back over 0.5 it will be the only won to end up 0-0 :(

I started the day (500+) lost due to pay PSV(over 4.5) ended up on 228 .. all in over 3.5 on the juve match .. HT 0-0 redded =161.. with the reamining 66 (depoisited another 30) .. backed over 2.5 @ 3.85 .. won it.. placed over 0.5 in the extra of chelsea match.. won it.. backed over 2.5 in the madrid match >. ended back to 567 ...

Pretty a hard day for everyone I believe.

agaz no i do this very seldom maybe 2 or 3 times the whole year.
but believe me i am so unlucky that everyrime decide to chase on value odds happen this.it hurts so much. every profit for the last 3 months gone. i know it was mug that did that. but first the 1.8k loss on u4.5 hurt me and second the game was 4-1 and kaliari lost a pen on 90 min so put a 1.14 bet at 91 min , but didnt expect that someone will lay it.(brown pants min)then put a 1.05 lay but siena score at 92:50, very unlucky. if this game was premier league with enough liquidity then they will back 1.02 at 92:50 surely.
Report Darlo Bantam October 31, 2012 10:58 PM GMT
Agree about the liquidity argument. I lost money on a half-time market at the weekend despite trying to green out at way more than value odds simply because there was zero liquidity.
Report ALEXANDER_THE_GREEK October 31, 2012 11:00 PM GMT
and the u4.5 1.8k lost because the low liquidity. i took fair prices for 30 min and no one back them. when was 1-0 and 3-0
Report Darlo Bantam October 31, 2012 11:03 PM GMT
Moral of the story is not to chase or to try trade even sometimes on lower liquidity markets. It's why I can reduce my stakes to practically the minimum on some leagues or fringe markets.

I saw a great video on the benefits of Forex Trading.  They call new entrants to the business Shark bait!  If these traders are so successful why do they feel the need to teach us how to do it?  Further if we got golf lessons off Tiger Woods we still wouldn't earn $100 million!

Another inportant lesson was to only take what the market gives you.  Dont try and force a win out of nothing. Some people need to understand what we do on here is gamble, call it calculated risk if you like but like Forex Traders, Stock Pickers, Hedge Funds it is gambling.  Unlike most in the Financial Markets we bet with our own money and generally cannot fix anything.  Taking a small punt on long odds is a gamble but the risk of losing is accepted.  Risking large sums on illiquid markets is crazy and betting with a big downside and small upside is for those with deep deep pockets.

I don't think it is about luck Alex.  It is bad risk management.  People hit the bar, score in extra extra time etc etc that's gambling but swings and roundabouts are accepted parts of the gamble.

If you lost 3 months profit it is not the end of the world.  My mate put £2,000 cash in a piant tin then threw it into a skip a few days later without realising.  He calmed himself down by having a pot noodle.  it's only money.  Play prudent and win it back.  Good luck to you.  Oh and just in case you think I am a smart arse who has never done it before...let him without sin cast the first stone!  I have learnt to manage my losses much better since.  It is more important than managing winnings.

Whisperingdeath,
my point is that it would be very depressing to gamble and work at the same time. i am not sure about ur gambling haots, but for most especially the traders gambling is a significantly time consuming activity. so if one works the whole day and sits to trade evenings and weekends one will not find time for social activity. that is why i asked someone will wish to work and gamble at the same time. if u chose one to gamble only u can relax on  weekdays

Clyde,

luck doesn't come into it.  Banks spend £100 to make a pound.  We bet a pound to make a £100.  Thats why banks have all the money ( also because they have bent politicians in their pockets ).  There's no such thing as a lucky gambler.....over time.  Electronic markets have evened the playing field for us but successful gamblers are good at risk management not lucky.

Most markets aren't amazingly efficient, that's a myth! I suppose you will want an example now!

ok, just the one Silly

Barca v Celta Vigo at the weekend

Barca 1/11 on here (1/10 Billy's) if anyone thinks that's value
Celta Vigo 37/1 here (same as Quack with less commission) if anyone thinks that's value. Badcrooks go 16/1, 25/1 highest bookie

however my personal favorite - Draw No Bet on here 33/1 (ie a higher price than all the bookies in the win only market!) but if that's not enough value for you then there is another exchange where it's currently available at 42.0.

There's also no way Celta Draw no Bet is a 2.96% probability (as represented by the 33/1), try doubling it and it would be closer Cool

Colonel,

I am out of the rat race job wise.  I work part time at night so have plenty of time.  I am not a " professional " gambler and certainly not smart or disciplined enough to trade sports markets  ( in a financial trader sort of way ).

I love sports so for me it is fun and a way out of a proper job as I have a small mortgage.  I have made plenty of financial mistakes in my life.  I am a baby boomer, one of Thatchers children if you like.  I have escaped from the darkside to a certain extent.  I have realised I can make a living from sports betting and seeing as I love sports it works for me right now.  The biggest thing I have learned is to control losses just like in the financial markets and keep a good reserve just like a General, marshall my forces and hit when things are in my favour not when I need to make money.

I have wondered about full time gambling and feel it is dangerous for me like drugs and alcohol but the biggest thing is I dont want to be addicted to anything.  A slave is a slave. Gold bars on a prison cell make no difference to me.  My betting style strength is to play the long game and keep away from going for the big one.  Farming not hunting, I am not an archetypal alpha male so my gambling style is farming not hunting.

I am personally someone who never goes for odds lower than evens. I appreciate that there is value to be found at very low odds but I am of the opinion that there is far more to be found at much higher odds and it also means lower stakes and far less stress. I am not a full-time gambler but I am working towards it and have found most success in laying very low odds. Especially towards the end of football matches. The one thing for me is discipline. Reading your post above about your profits Alex I was very surprised to see the details of your recent 'chasing'. It's complete and utter madness what you did but it makes me realise that even you after years of large annual profits make ( excuse the phrase but..) 'amateur' mistakes like that and this is why gambling is very difficult to get right. To become a truly successful gambler I am starting to realise that you have to control your emotions and the addictive nature. Stay away from markets you know that you generally lose money to. Never chase..if you lose big, accept it and take a break for a couple of days. If you're low on confidence I find a good thing to do is to lower your stakes for a while until you feel that you're back in the groove. It's tough at times this game but overall I love it and hope to become very successful with it as I become more experienced. Alex I would suggest taking a little break before you get back on it. Often losing big is followed by losing even more because you're looking for the first market to come along rather than the right market. GL.

Sorry to hear that Sad

When I started this betting lark. I put £100 into my account and limited myself to £5 per bet, which would increase by another £5 for every £100 I profited. I got to about £350 and there was this period where I lost £200 in 2 weeks. I was so annoyed so I decided to do some chasing and lump on England v San Marino. I deposited another £100 and went all in with my £250 on over 4.5, 5.5 and over 6.5 goals. Of course, England decide to f*ck up and win 5-0, so I lost another £100 on that.

Not as much as compared to you but I don't exactly have a huge betting bank so it was quite hard hitting for me. It was stupid from me but it did teach me a lesson. Since then I've been very careful with my money and I don't chase anymore or lump on. So it's best to take your losses and move on to the next day, take a break for a few days and restart with smaller stakes.

Good luck man
