Quantifiable is the fact La Liga is ranked No.1 in europe mexicano.
The Prem was most watched in the mid 90's when 6/7th ranked in europe. It means little to nothing.

as i said, perhaps we should all go miles away to the country that is acknowledged as having the best league, support the best team in that league even though we have no emotional pull on that club, then slag off all the local teams/leagues to us.
we could then stick our chests out and go to bed feeling very smug.

It's good for the game. Remember 6 or 7 years ago it was nearly a given the English teams would get to the Semi's/quarters. I don't know what's changed as the money is still there for the English teams. Other teams more savvy nowadays I reckon and have sorted out some good TV deals for themselves..

Well I wouldn't write off the PL sides yet, Hamsterdam. Chelsea can still do well in the CL, and Man U could as well, if they sort out their defensive problems. Arsenal will probably still qualify, although we know they're an ordinary team - how could they be otherwise if they simply sell all their quality players? City are rather mystifying, admittedly, but I think we need to wait until the end of the season and see how the English sides actually did. Too many death knells being prematurely sounded for my liking.

In most peoples book 'the best' refers to quality.

number of internationals plying their trade in the respective leagues is probably a quantifiable indicator of strength in depth.
That depends on how many players playing in their own national leagues there are, against foreigners. Man City for instance, have bought umpteen internationals. They lost tonight, btw.

JamDav1982 24 Oct 12 22:24 Bilbao finished tenth in La Liga and look how they took Man Utd apart.
Villarreal got relegated with players like Nilmar, Rossi, Diego Lopez, Bruno Soriano etc.
Depth in La Liga is much stronger.
Is the depth really that much stronger? Look how well Bilbao are doing now their 2 best players from last year aren't playing.
Villarreal got relegated because Rossi was missing from October and Nilmar only played around half their league games. So you can't really justify the leagues depth by using Villarreal as an example because if Rossi had been fit they wouldn't have gone down. It's because of their lack of depth that they got relegated.
I'd argue that the likes of Spurs, Everton, Newcastle and Liverpool are stronger sides than Mallorca, Levante, Betis and Sevilla.
I don't think there's any doubt la liga is better in terms of skill and technical ability but for excitement, atmosphere and competition you can't seriously deny that the premier league is better.

Premiership teams get what they deserve in the Champions League. They treat other teams and the competition itself with contempt. Playing weakened sides and then having a cheek to wonder why they didn't win. Not to mention the Europa League,FA cup and League cup as well. Who the feck do they think they are. Over hyped and full of overpaid lazy ****z. Did you hear that idiot from Arsenal saying the players looked tired!! Doing what?

The quality's not awful in the PL though. Not as much technique and skill as you see in Spain, obviously. But there's still some decent stuff. And you do get an awful lot of excitement and competitive matches in the PL.
Hard to argue that the PL is the better league, though, simply because English sides haven't fared as well in Europe over the last few years. The Prem League's still pretty decent though, and I expect there to be at least one PL side in the Semi-Finals.

Not sure i get your point. Locality has nothing to do with it. Would you rather watch Liverpool v Chelsea or Bilbao v Real Madrid? Even games which aren't local like Newcastle v Spurs or Everton v Arsenal would be much better games and have much better atmospheres than a similar la liga fixture.
Have you ever watched the early sunday la liga game? Dire quality, dire atmosphere. Compare that with the early sunday game here and there's quite often no comparison.
More than half of la liga teams have an average attendance less than 24k. Doesn't make for a great spectacle. La Liga has the 2 best sides in the world, a side carried by Falcao, a side carried by Soldado then not much else. Malaga are doing really well but their best player left for the premier league. What else besides that?

Lets face it, our results in the Champs League (barring Chelski last season - who had plenty of luck, but good luck to them for that) have been desperatly poor. This year, is about the same as last year, our league or the foreign league, as I like to call it, is grossly over-rated. The teams struggle to pass the ball for more than 4-5 times before giving it away. La Liga is by far the best League for passing and movement. In this League there is little movement off the ball and the game is all about passing and movement. Man U have won all 3 games in a very poor group. Chelski were going to struggle a bit this season, in the competition, because winners are there to be shot at. Arsenal will do what they always do get to he quarter finals and out they will go. Man City, well they are outplayed in every game, they play in the Champs League, because they simply aren't good enough and the fact, that they are the Champions of our Foreign League, tells you all you need to know about the QUALITY of our top League.

Is it the best? maybe it is, maybe it isn't, we can't really say for sure. What I do know I find it pretty boring and negative to watch. on the whole. What I think people are missing in the league v league debate is that the culture of English football is affecting the teams.
These teams play against teams filled with long ball merchants and hatchet-men every week and dont know how to play against technical teams that they face in Europe. It worked for around 5 years but that was due to fantastic tactical managers imo, Benitez, Mourinho ect.
Guys like Silva & Carzola will be worse off moving to England as it will affect the technical side of their game, a move to Germany or staying in Spain would have been much more beneficial for them.
But the most ridiculous thing about it all is that the money hase'nt dried up, EPL clubs are hitting record spending every year and yet seem to be getting worse, whereas Valencia, Schalke, Dortmund & Malaga have spent very little (even losing some of their key players) and yet can outperform most of these free spending EPL sides, something is definitely not right!
The English sides would be better off limiting their spending and trying to raise youth, they may get still get beat in Europe but it would'nt be anywhere near as damning as spending £500m+ and struggling.
I'm just glad my team Liverpool have a Klopp type manager (of course not as good) who turns to youth instead of gambling on big names.

Whatever way you want to analyse football and why things have changed so dramatically/drastically you only have to look at Celtic/Rangers/Man Utd etc of the late 60s and the 70s.
Most of the players (Celtic particularly) consisted of players who were either English,Scots,Welsh or Irish.Celtic took on and beat the best in Europe with a team, all of whom lived within kicking distance of Parkhead.
I am by definition a Rangers fan,an accident of birth/religion/allegiance.The best "English" teams always had Scots,Irish and the odd Welsh player.Playing for pride in the team and also for their National shirt, not for money.
That is the short and definitive answer to why the UK has fallen behind........FOREIGNERS.

Blaming the foreigners is much too simplistic, in the old day the teams were full of English players but the NT was still average at best.
What I find most entertaining is that when the club teams from Serie A, La Liga & Bundesliga were struggling in Europe there NT's were still very competitive, what do the English have to fall back on is this decline continues?
They were warned years ago that football works in cycles but ignored it, with guys like Richard "EPL is where its at" Scudamore at the top who were oblivious to everything happening outside Eng-ger-land I guess its right when they say "you get what you deserve"
