I'm with you on that one striding, although I have to admit I found the appointment of Rodgers a very odd one. Nothing personal against him but he hasn't achieved much for what I would expect of a Liverpool manager. The worst thing that could happen to Pool now is that they invest as badly as it would appear they did under Dalglish and although Swansea had built a useful side I don't really credit much of that to Rodgers. They may of course not have the money to do that again so it may not be an issue but supposing they did I'm not sure I would want Rodgers spending it. I watch a lot of Spanish football, as I'm sure many do, and when you see figures of £12m for Sturridge being talked about it just seems incredible to me. He may of course turn out to be a good buy and fair does if he does but I think there's a lot less risky propositions out there.
Report stridingedge December 26, 2012 10:36 PM GMT
yes i'm not saying i was delighted with the appointment and plenty of us feel it was a risk as his cv is bare but i can see what he is trying to do.

you cannot escape the fact that whoever came in has been blighted by frivolous past spending on players that have not scored or assisted in many goals at all.

i just don't see a quick fix and thinking someone else will walk in at the moment and do any better is not a reasonable approach.

hehe striding, you never know in football. But what I mean is if you look at Swansea and who they have got (almost for nothing!) it doesn't necessarily need a lot of money. Like Valencia sold Aduriz to Bilbao (I think for a couple of mill) Cry and he must be in double figures by now. He only didn't get in at Valencia because of Soldado. But there's others...like Aspas at Deportivo (who I believe is on Swanseas radar). His buyout clause would be less than Sturridge and hes scored goals in the Segunda and now La Liga for Celta.

These are top quality pro players all of whom are miles better than he was and miles better than the dross he has dealt with in the past. His job is solely to bring out their ability NOT to make them better players. Unfortunately he is bringing close to the worst out of just about everyone (and incredibly the players are now getting blamed). When there is no heart, fight, drive, spirit etc etc in a group of highly talented but emotionally devoid 18 to 25 year olds, there is only one man to blame. The leader.

Disagree.  Simply, Liverpool don't have a strong squad.  How will they improve?

Imagine you are a world-class international.  Which team would you want to play for from this list?

a) Man Utd
b) Chelsea
c) Man City
d) Arsenal
e) Tottenham
f) Liverpool

The Liverpool glory days are over, and it's a long long way back.
Report bardo December 29, 2012 1:53 PM GMT
agree that very few top class internationals would want to play for the current Liverpool.

Its Rodgers job to create a decent squad and he hasnt done that

Liverpool certainly wont improve when his activity in the transfer market is so bad that he brings in dross like Borini and Sturridge for millions.

Who is worse... Rodgers himself or the players ?

Laudrup brought in Michu to swansea for 2 million.

Rodgers is just the wrong choice at the wrong time.

more seasons of mid table mediocrity await with him at the helm.

from today's echo

GONE are the days of outside rights and playing nothing but 4-4-2.

Football in the modern era is awash with more formations than you could throw a stick at and has positions you’ve never heard of. Dossiers, ProZone and tactical report sheets are part of a manager’s arsenal these days as much as cones and a whistle.

Accordingly, the extent of football’s lexicon is growing and Brendan Rodgers has introduced some new phrases to Liverpool supporters.

His explanation of Jonjo Shelvey being deployed as “false nine” and this week’s description of Luis Suarez once playing as a “reverse winger” are two which will leave the old timers on the Kop scratching their heads.

Rodgers has also described at length, and with great detail, the many ways a seemingly straightforward 4-3-3 line-up has countless variations and nuances.

3. "how to talk big after a lucky win against a lowly club, only to lose a better team in the next game"

4. "how to kiss FSG's as.s and be a yes man"

5. "how to act like you are somebody when not having a track record of winning trophies, and relegated with previous clubs"

yep rodgers did bring a new lexicon to the club and its all the stuff which we don't want.

IMO Brendan achieved not much at the Swans... he inherited a decent playing team built by Martinez ...should never have been thrown in at the deep end with a team like liverpool...not yet anyway...and especially as 'King Kenny' screwed it all up. Liver would do well to grab the rafa again and start again...this 'rebuilding' has not gone well

Can no one on here explain what Rodgers meant when he said Liverpool had lost the battle but won the war tonight?

I hope it's nothing to do with "improvement" cos I was in the Bobby Moore room in May hobnobbing with Alan Kennedy, Phil Neal, John Bishop and Lee Evans. And my mate was showing me pics on his phone of him and 1/2 a dozen legends from League Cup festivities in the same room.

When do we think Rodgers will give us that opportunity again?

"I talked to him and asked him why he was playing me there. It is not my real position. The coach could not answer me … Still, no regrets. To play at Anfield was a wonderful experience. And maybe if I had not gone there I would not have been able to return to Borussia Dortmund. For that, I am happy. Thank God I have left Brendan Rodgers."

Echos of my opening post.

And I would guess he is not the only one thinking "I really don't want to work with this @rsehole anymore"
