Everton fan, right now Id take Capital Cup and Europa League next season (And a decent top half finish). I don't think where ready for Champions League football just yet, although the cash windfall would be terrific

Everton Great side at the moment strong team, Newcastle defo not ready for champions League yet, so i think as a newcastle fan we need to concentrate on Europa League. We can forget Capital cup we play Man u tomorrow night lol. Everton will finish top 4 this season imo, and Newcastle Happy with a top six finish.

I first went to matches at St. Jame's Park early sixties, in 50 years I've seen them win the Fairs Cup and some minor trophies, i.e. Texaco Cup etc., I've resigned myself never to see them win a trophy of any importance. If they ever do I along with many others will probably die celebrating.
My son is a season ticket holder, attends all domestic away games and is following them in Europe. I've told him he will have to put up with a lot of grief for many years to come.

I'm with Solano on this one; 43 years since Newcastle won a trophy; can't see the point of getting into the champions league just to get knocked out when 5 or 6 games wins you a trophy

What a sorry state the world has become, especially football.
By the sounds of this thread and most football supporters these days the most important thing is just to take part. Winning something is secondary.
What has made younger generations feel like this? It makes me sick to my stomach.
I am in my mid forties. I remember everton winning trophies in the mid eighties. The unbelievable euphoria of those moments/memories still make me smile/happy if I am feeling down. It really is like popping a couple of mickey mills.
Nothing in my football life has come anywhere near to those feelings since the 80's because everton have won/achieved nothing.
Everton could not possibly win the Champions league so what would be the benefit other than that the owners of the club would be richer? If we were taken over by mad rich arabs and could win the champions league then yes I would hope we could achieve qualification.
But in the meantime all that matter is winning the 2 tournaments we enter that we have any realistic chance of winning, the Capitol Cup and FA Cup. But guess what. The `great' Moyes fields weakended teams in them and generaly gets his teams to massively underperform in them.
Anyway who cares the glow of ecstacy and thrill of finishing 6th will keep the everton masses triumphant.
Ps. Everton are a million and drifting to be top 4.

Funnily enough donny I was born on the wirral (mum and dad from lpool - excuse).
Although Everton always have been my team I used to watch tranmere on friday nights etc in the Johnny King/Aldridge era and what lovely football they played.
I witnessed the euphoria (I was happy but was not the same as when everton won things) of the rovers fans when they got multiple promotions, made a capital cup final, leyland daff final etc
At that time Tranmere could win promotion, could win the league cup/fa cup and lower league cup. They experienced, revelled in it, gave everything they had in them.
This season Tranmere are top of Div I and could win that league.
I can only imagine the joy their fans will experience if they do.
As an evertonian all I have now is the dread of an fa cup upset in winter.

Speaking as a Spurs fan who has witnessed both in recent years - Champions League by a million miles.
Winning the League Cup is a nice day out, and something to win arguments in pubs if you're into that sort of thing. Champions League was amazing, trips abroad with ALL my mates, even those with families who can never go away these days, made the effort to go to Milan/Madrid etc. Will never forget that as long as I live. The Chelsea cup win was nice, but doesn't come close.
Not to mention if you finish in the top 4 you've had a bloody good season seeing your team win a lot of games. That alone is worth a lot, even if you don't make the group stages! Plenty of teams win a cup while having a rubbish season overall.

Name the last five finalists of the League cup...all of you would be struggling.
Name the teams who have qualified for CL outside the BIG 4, is an easier task.

They were off the top of my head. I happen to be quite knowledgeable about football. Not very knowledgeable about football betting! But I know my stuff when it comes to facts.
