Dear Supporter,
"The great support you gave the team here last season has seen our allocation back up to near-full levels. I want you to continue that progress today.
"But today is about much more than not blocking gangways. Today is about thinking hard about what makes United the best club in the world.
"Our rivalry with Liverpool is based on a determination to come out on top - a wish to see us crowned the best against a team that held that honour for so long.
"It cannot and should never be based on personal hatred. Just ten days ago, we heard the terrible, damning truth about the deaths of 96 fans who went to watch their team try and reach the FA Cup final and never came back.
"What happened to them should wake the conscience of everyone connected with the game.

"Our great club stands with our great neighbours Liverpool today to remember that loss and pay tribute to their campaign for justice. I know I can count on you to stand with us in the best traditions of the best fans in the game.
"Yours sincerely, Sir Alex Ferguson."

newco,

Can you beleive SAF has coerced Liverpool into asking him and Sir Bobby Charlton to lay wreaths at the Kop pre match.

And he has also worked it so that Vidic joins Gerrard in releasing 96 balloons. Oh and he has insisted on them being red in colour.

As long as he bows to the Kop and asks for forgiveness at what he wrongly did to one of Liverpool greatest heroes KD...
Report peter the butcher September 22, 2012 7:29 PM BST
Yet KD had this to say about SAF;

“When the Hillsborough disaster happened back in 1989, Sir Alex Ferguson was straight on the phone to offer his help in any way he could,” Dalglish said. “People out there have different opinions about him. Some love him, some hate him, but when something terrible happens, like Hillsborough, Alex is one of the first asking what he can do. So although there is an intense rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool, it would never prevent Alex from offering his assistance, which is exactly what he did back then.”

Odd isn't it.......
Report newco-Joe67 September 22, 2012 7:41 PM BST
yea well they all generally say nice things about eachother in public, this is all a mending bridges campaign with Ferguson trying to reap as much glory as he can from it... will his clubs fans follow suit or show the same feelings they always have done before, perhaps a public apology from the fans is in order.

Because they were borne directly out of the Liverpool chants.  If you'd ignored them in the first place, there'd be no discussion over what Man United fans sang to Liverpool fans.  Just so I'm clear, the Liverpool fans singing about Munich at the Man United fans are díckheads.  Of that there's no doubt.  But so are the Man United fans who felt that the appropriate response was to sing retaliatory songs about Heysel.

My point is that it's like an argument between two children and your reply was "they started it".  It's very sad.  If you had children and one called the other a name, would you tell the other to call them something worse, or to ignore it?

I think it's important to take into account that it's really only a small minority nowdays that get involved with these sick songs. They do it to provoke a reaction, & cause outrage from the vast majority of decent folk. Football forums like this are full of those decent folk, who in turn, end up bickering, & start using past bad behaviour of the other club's supporters. It all ends up becoming very messy.

Let the scumbags sing their songs. If we all just ignored it & concentrated on football matters. Over the course of time, they'd simply fade away.

The Munich song was/is nasty & hurtful. But it belonged in an era when football fans did a lot of 'nasty & hurtful' things. None more so than Manchester United fans btw. Report peter the butcher September 24, 2012 3:49 PM BST
Absolutely amazed at some of the posts here.

United fans, many against their instincts behaved impeccably pre match upto YNWA

During YNWA, which is always belted out, United fans chanted UNITED, the speakers were turned up in response. Were we allowed to sing at that point?

During the match, two fat blokes in that stand to our right started doing the plane gestures, some of our lads chanted "Where's your Munich song" to them but it only lasted seconds before others stopped it.

No problems during the rest of the game.

Liverpool chanted about and booed Evra, United did the same about Suarez

After the game some idiots from Liverpool stayed behind to purposely antagonise us and started doing the plane gestures towards us. The police/stewards were then met with "we haven't done anything" by these idiots when they tackled them.

United fans then ironically sang the "always the victims" song to them. In turn they did the plane gestures again and United fans then chanted other stuff which was regrettable, but absolutely nothing about Hillsborough.

So it all boils down to a few Liverpool idiots provoking the United fans who in turn decided that the gloves were off and responded badly.

The chanting outside from both sets of fans was "business as normal" frankly.

That's it end of story. Liverpool happy with how the day went for them, United happy their fans behaved as well as they did.
Report themover September 24, 2012 4:02 PM BST
