I've noticed from time to time that correct score markets do not seem to get suspended, just reset without that red "SUSPENDED".

In itself not a big problem, but i've experienced sometimes if I make a bet with a 10 sec delay a goal is scored during those 10 secs, the bet will still go through! Happened to me just now in a serie B game, thankfully was able to cancel the bet a milisecond before a bot swooped to cash in. Other times i've not been so lucky.

Friday, I had a pretty large sum unmatched on the under 1.5 goals in a game. It was a non-event and extremely little activity.
Anyhow, I noticed the match bet was suspended on bet365 and switched over to the u 1.5 goals market on betfair, where to my horror i could see my bet being taken right before my eyes! No suspension, just a reset but of course after my whole stake was swooped away. At a price no sane person would take unless of course he knew there had been a goal.

Sent an email to betfair, but they deny any wrongdoing claiming the goal was scored the same second as my bet was taken. Pretty pissed about this, as I know im right. Have had suspeicions before too, but never saw it happen right before my blue eyes!

Anyone experienced similar stuff?

Agree completely. You should be able to place your bet safe in the knowledge that if something happens and you are unmatched, that your stake will be returned. Instead, whoever is fast enough gets your money.

On a similar note, I use Gruss betting assistant and have the odds refresh set at .2 of a second. Twice over the last two days in tennis matches people have scooped up cash at the end before the matches have finished. The first was Sharapova and Azarenka and at match point there was 1.09 downwards available for hundreds of thousands of pounds. As Sharapova hit the last ball out it disappeared before my eyes and then it was suspended. The exact same thing happened yesterday in the Murray match from 1.06 downwards. How is this possible? Its disgraceful and shows that this must also be happening on every single point as they cannot be subject to the same delay as the rest of us! What chance of any of us got if this is allowed!

I thought it was just me! But I got done in last nights MLS game! hardly a suspend, just a reset, then when I thought I won on my next goal bet, turns out I lost....shameful really.

just happened to me in the Rapid Bucharest v Shakhtar game, didn't suspend just reset. placed a bet for under 5.5, it was counting down and the markets just reset and not suspend and accepted my bet. soon as it accepted the odds shot up because a goal was scored! FFS!
Report blackat • September 9, 2012 4:34 PM BST
Happened to me yesterday as well. Same thing as the posters above - goal scored, no suspend, the market reset (but the unmatched bet was not cancelled) and my bet was swooped before my very eyes. Disgraceful, Betfair.

so basically there is no point in complaining! who is going to record every bet they make on the off-chance something goes wrong!

standards are falling. maybe it is too many inplay markets that controllers make mistakes. but these are big mistakes and when money is involved there is no excuse.

I guess this is what happens when there is no real competition against betfair.

Betfair never have and never will make a mistake. Fact.
Report Tuddur • September 9, 2012 7:53 PM BST
I think there is a point complaining. In the past I've had several refunds due to late suspensions after complaining. They do however seem to have become more difficult to deal with lately. Also especially smaller football games more frequently seem poor handled with market resets instead if suspensions etc.

So good advice to anyone would be to avoid betting on those as you can easily get ripped off if you're unlucky.

Betfair shooting themselves in the foot operating like this

Is this on certain markets? I've never had a problem. There's an issue with hoovering in certain markets, although I'm not sure how you can change that apart from making bet delay times longer. Something which we can all agree would be abysmal.

The reset instead of suspend is annoying, not had an issue with bets being placed before it completing. My bets always error in the same situation, is this a certain market?

I've had many disasters with using the Keep bet function while going in play, is this the same issue?
Report Just Checking • September 9, 2012 9:44 PM BST
The reset of bets when nothing has happened to warrant it (no red cards/goals etc) has annoyed me for years.

It makes no sense, and makes you wonder if they people controlling the match know what they are supposed to be doing, it doesn't exactly breed confidence? Tends to happen in smaller games not big, maybe the experienced staff are on the Man Utds and temps with 2 minutes training are on the Bolivian 3rd Division reserves.

ive noticed that a lot of games havent suspended recently, is there reason for this?
Report Darlo Bantam • September 10, 2012 1:47 AM BST
I can never understand why some markets are suspended for a matter of seconds - if that - and some for a minute or two. It seems that big matches are suspended until the game kicks off again. But I don't get what the point of the difference is.
Report wisewords • September 10, 2012 2:39 AM BST
I had a problem this evening like you explained above on the Argentinian match between River Plate and Newells. The score was 2-1. I placed a bet on the under 5.5 goals market. I backed under 5.5 goals at a price of 1.04. As the 10 second countdown was ticking down for my bet, the market suspended for a goal. My bet was still matched and not lapsed. There certainly is something strange going on with market suspensions and bets still getting matched. I bet alot on Betfair and I'm not happy with this at all.

Yeah no it gives me the royal sh1ts too, especially when in extra time in the football and I'm sweating on a goal and up comes 'SUSPENDED' and I'm staring at it deeply while thinking "you fukking beauty" and then - nothing, jack****, diddly-squat, nadda, zilch - and I'm thinking "wtf was that about?"

funny thing here is, after a bit back and forth, Betfair send me the details of my bets. This shows that one of the two bets were taken 1 second AFTER what they claim to be the time of the goal. Since I pointed this out, it's gone all quiet!
Report gnashersblackpool • September 10, 2012 12:52 PM BST
it takes longer in the bigger games, because it takes longer for the system to cancel the unmatched bets. the more  unmatched bets in the market, longer it takes for them to sweep.
in the quieter matches, i always have a bookie inplay module open to assit watching for goals, because it does only seem to take a few secs for betfair to reopen these markets.

Which one do you use gnashersblackpool? I usually have bet365 open as they seem accurate with the time. However can be a bit slow to update goals scored

I had some bets taken during one of the women's Olympic matches when the market was suspended for a penalty. I don't know if it was before or after the market was suspended or even after it was reopened since the penalty was missed. There have been other occasions when I've thought that I've had money matched after suspends, though I've also had bets voided because of such matching - not that that always helps when you're trying to get an all-green book only for the goalposts to have been moved after the game has finished.

That seems a reasonable response, but the markets have an uncanny knack of reopening just as the teams kick off. That's the bit I particularly don't understand since other markets - as you say - do open very quickly again. I've seen one market had all bets cancelled though I'm not sure if it was even ever suspended.

Report Biscuit1979 • September 10, 2012 4:58 PM BST
I've never understood why they bother with suspensions anyway.

Markets don't suspend for a try in rugby or a wicket in cricket or winning a set in tennis, odds just freely fluctuate which is how it should be, yet they even suspend for a red card in a football match. Do away with the suspends and make it a free for all like in the unmanaged markets.

Some late night matches become an absolute farce with markets suspending on numerous occasions for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

why not just reduce the number of inplay markets to improve quality in control and liquidity in those matches. too much of something is not always good.

betfair can even judge if a market is worth opening up in-play (if possible) by interest in the fixed odds market. large enough betting and the markets open up in-play.

But it is falling on deaf ears, i think one of their selling points is having more in-play markets that bookmakers and better odds.

Report Darlo Bantam • September 10, 2012 5:26 PM BST
Totally disagree. Although I realise that quality could go up as quantity goes down. For one, I don't even touch football markets before the off now.
Report Biscuit1979 • September 10, 2012 5:50 PM BST
I don't think they really need to reduce the markets overall but they should certainly take a look at the ones they do offer on some games

For example they offer up to under/over 8.5 goal markets on most premier league games which never get anywhere close to that, some games you won't even be able to get a bet on under 8.5 goals, yet i've seen 2-3 games in the past fortnight alone in Estonian and Icelandic games which went into double figures and they stopped at 6.5 goals.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? • September 10, 2012 5:53 PM BST
I have seen this happen too. I still don't understand why they have to suspend match odds in football anyway, it is not like they suspend in play odds in other sports i.e. when there is a wicket in a cricket match, or when a try is scored in rugby. Think of all the extra markets they could put in play if they didnt have to suspend the match odds.

Too many youth matches in play etc. I agree.

Report Darlo Bantam • September 10, 2012 5:56 PM BST
While it's hard to justify the number of reserve and under 21 matches etc, that are in-play, they do tend to be at other times of the day. It's not like these matches take away from peak periods of higher quality matches.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? • September 10, 2012 5:59 PM BST
Yes, but they could instead be focusing on other matches around the world. For example, tomorrow there are World Cup qualifiers, supposedly the biggest tournament there is, which are not even listed on the Betfair markets.

When I complained after an infuriating incident when they suspend after a goal for so ridiculously long that a second goal was scored and I was screwed, they told me that they needed confirmation from their official result service before unsuspending. Maybe that was the truth or maybe b0ll0x but it was absolutely infuriating as on their own stream you could see the celebrations, the walking back to the centre spot, and kicking off again. You don't need to be an expert on the rules of football to know that kicking off from the centre within play means *OFFICIALLY A GOAL*.

As to why there are suspends in football, it's fairly obvious why and been done to death on this forum before.
Report jim smith • September 10, 2012 9:33 PM BST
i have no idea why they have stopped suspending after a goal on a lot of games but just clearing the screens. it means when you press the bet button there is a small risk if you are unlucky with the timing that you are betting on the basis of a wrong current score. and they are must know that their customers arent watching live tv pics of these minor games.

Twice I've had money in the France-Belarus market and had it quickly matched with lump backs just before a goal. It's clear some people can get money into a market despite the five second delay before Betfair can suspend the market.

I've still not seen this but it's very worrying so many people say they are seeing it?

There could be three explanations:
1. It IS suspending for a VERY short period (a few seconds), with a clear in the middle.
Not ideal, and a bit strange as it means they might clear for a disallowed goal etc (but random clearing bets doesn't seem to bother them :().
But we could live it it.
2. They are just not suspending early enough, missing goals, and people are being hoovered. COMPLETELY unnacceptable.
3. The refresh script on their site has changed to be so slow it's missing the suspend or a bug introduced so it APPEARS it's missing it.

If they're allowing 2 then .. well people just can't trust in play football. That's not good for them OR us.

Can you guys confirm is this old site, new site, API?

It might just be a bug in the new site? The new site it (surpise) from what I remember briefly trying is worse during suspend as it locks things down
so you can't prepare a bet for the unsuspend? (Designed by people who actually USE the ****ing site, that's always the impression).

Have they tried to improve that and made things worse??!

Perhaps what we need from BF is some form of rule that a suspend for a goal will last minimum 18 seconds or something?
I just had a little look out of boredom at the odds changes on old site and it's an update every 15 seconds it looks like.
If the same timer is controlling suspend appearing and they suspend for e.g. 12 seconds, you might just not see it happen, but it MIGHT have happened.
You see?

What we DON'T want of course is suspend staying on too long when it's kicked off again and another goal goes in, that's a nightmare and far worse, cost me many times :( Makes me sad just thinking about it.
