I think I probably know the answer to this however I have checked the rules and regulations page and this issue is not addessed. Ok so here is the scenario:
If you had backed a team to score in both halves of the match, they score a goal in the 1st half and then in the second half they score an own goal, although the goal is awarded to the opposing team, effectively your team has scored in both halves.
As I say, own goals are addressed in two areas of the rules and regs, 1st and last goalscorer and top goalscorer, but the rules are silent for the above bet.

Although bets are probably not subject to decisions of the court of law, Betfair are effectively entering you into a contract by applying terms and conditions in their rules and regs pages, so therefore matters such as this should be definitive and not open to interpretation.

I checked the wording but can noot find the definition of goal in relation to scoring and conceding that your refer to. What I did see however is that 'Shirt numbers' bets will include own-goal scorers and yet top goalscorer,first and last scorer bets does not include own goals.
What I have spotted is the following definition:
For the purpose of this rule, a "Material Event" shall mean a goal being scored, a penalty being awarded or a player being sent off.

I take your point but Betfair don't have it defined. So if a defender accidentally heads ball into his own net he hasn't scored a goal? It's an own goal, but according to Betfair own goals count for some betting outcomes. I think Betfair's legal department have made an oversight. Just saying.

Well, if he purposely did it, then he must have read the same rules and regulations you are are trying to put across here. He would possibly be under scrutiny for match fixing.

No idea, just wanted to see what anyone else thought. I'm no lawyer, but my job does involve the wording of contracts, so I understand the requirement for a definition section in a contract and know how the wrong word, missing or ambiguous word can have a huge consequence in determining the outcome of a dispute.
