The Times - Liverpool tell Charlie Adam and Joe Cole they can leave.Charlie Adam has been informed that he can leave Liverpool for offers of more than £5 million as the need for Brendan Rodgers to shake up his squad was made more urgent by a 3-0 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion.
Adam, signed by Kenny Dalglish for £5.5 million last summer, was an unused substitute at The Hawthorns and has found himself out of favour since Rodgers’s arrival. Rodgers has been working with a limited budget since taking over from Dalglish and after signing Joe Allen and Fabio Borini for a combined cost of £26 million, he now needs to sell players if he is to make more incursions in the transfer budget.
The Liverpool manager would also be willing to offload Joe Cole but is aware that there is little interest in a player earning around £100,000 per week who lasted only nine minutes after going on as a substitute against West Brom before succumbing to a hamstring injury that could keep him out for a month.
“We still needed to bring in one or two players, but we need to work with the players that are here,” Rodgers said after Saturday’s defeat. “You know what the limitations are in terms of budget, and the reality was the team finished eighth last year and there are reasons behind that.”
Tellingly, Rodgers could offer up only that there are “no easy solutions” to the situation he inherited with Cole and Liverpool could now look to subsidise the midfield player’s wages should any club show a willingness to take him on loan.

Surprised someone isnt in for Adam tbh. As awful as I think he is for us, he proved he could do it in the Prem for Blackpool and surely one of the bottom 5 or 6 teams think he'd be worth a chnace for £5m or so.

Cole is obviously here until next summer.

FFS That must be a kick in the bollocks....

He should feel embarrassed picking that kind of money up.
Report Solano1 August 19, 2012 10:08 PM BST
In theory, when he signed, it should have been an excellent signing.

Gerrard (still in his pomp), Torres and Cole had the makings of an outstanding attacking threat imo.  It's strange how some players just can't deliver at a club, having been successful everywhere else.  Duff at our place was another good example.

As for Adam, never under-estimate the stupidity of people like Big Fat Sam.  He'd pay £5m, albeit it would be comical watching him and Nolan getting ran around the park together.

Adam can definitely do a job for someone in the PL surely, he isn't that bad.

the mess has come from too many players like that with us solano over the past 20 plus years

the trouble is as we slipped further and further down the pecking order we've found it really hard to get decent players and have payed outrageous money for players that wouldn't get a sniff at our main rivals.
Report Can't Catch Me August 19, 2012 10:12 PM BST
He's proved he can do it already cob. Fingers crossed someone looks at his time then instead of with us!

i always thought downing was over inflated considering his goal record but thought he would at least assist in goals, that hasn't happened with us either!
Report cob316 August 19, 2012 10:15 PM BST
Joke hole has been a disater from Day 1 when he got sent off, just dosent inspire me with any confidence, get him out of the squad altogether, let him pick up his wedge every week and then let him fook all the way off! He actually seems like a decent geezer when I see him speak so have real hard feelings towards him but still it just hurts the amount of money that has been pizzed up against the wall.

I'm not going to go over old ground, but I will say this - KD has set you back a good few years.  Not only were his signings atrocious, but he has set a benchmark whereby clubs will think they can pull your pants down every time you enquire about a player.

He'd have done well with the Torres cash, albeit the reality is that had he not left Torres would most probably be still with you.

Since then it's been a pretty disturbing downward spiral.

No club in their right mind would offer £5m for Adams.    He's quite possibly the worst Liverpool player ever and his best hope of finding a new club would be in the Championship (or lower).

Not really true though is it sofa? Sure he has stank the joint out at Liverpool but he did get a plethora of goals and assists at Blackpool, so whats stopping him doing a job for a prem team now?

It could be b.s but were spurs not interested in signing him? I seem to recall 'arry singing his praises, triffic and all that jazz! So has his stock really sunk that low, Is that what playing for Liverpool does to you?

"Brendan Rodgers (born 26 January 1973) is a Northern Irish former footballer who is the current manager of Liverpool.
Rodgers began his footballing career as a defender at Ballymena United, where he stayed until he was signed by Reading at the age of 18, although an injury later forced him to retire at the age of 20. He remained at Reading as a youth team coach before being invited to join Chelsea as the manager of their youth team in 2004. He was then promoted to reserve team manager in 2006.
In November 2008 he was appointed manager of Watford, where he remained until accepting an offer to become manager of his former club Reading in June 2009. He left the club by mutual consent after disappointing results in December 2009, and later returned to full-time management with Swansea City in July 2010. The following year he led the club to Premier League promotion, before guiding them to finish 11th in their debut Premier League season."

From Rafa Benitez to Brendan Rodgers. Good luck with that project.

Yes, I think Spurs were interested in him at some stage.Scared  I reckon he was just a one season wonder and I can't see him reproducing that form again.
