When they did go bust the directors got to keep their big houses and their titles. Sound familiar? RANGERS have finally been handed full SFA membership just hours before the football season kicks off - but the club will vigorously contest any move by the SPL to strip them of titles.

Ibrox chief executive Charles Green reached a compromise agreement with Scottish football chiefs after another day of tense talks in the long-running saga.

And it resulted in the Light Blues being handed the full licence which gives them the go-ahead to kick off life as a Third Division club starting with Sunday’s Ramsdens Cup first round clash with Brechin City at Glebe Park.

Green had to agree to certain conditions - they are willing to accept a 12-month registration embargo and £160,000 fine - before the situation could be resolved which included signing off the transfer of the old company’s share in the top flight to Dundee which formally take place at an SPL meeting on August 3.

One of the major stumbling blocks during talks has been the SPL’s desire for Rangers to accept being stripped of titles if found guilty of their alleged use of dual contracts between 2001 and 2010.

But while Green has agreed to be liable for any sanctions handed out after the SPL’s investiation into the matter the club are insisting they will fiercely contest any punishment which involves title stripping.

That is now set to be a fight for a later day between Gers and the SPL if the Ibrox club are found guilty. The SPL want to hand over the issue to an independent judicial panel on August 10 to rule on whether the club’s former owners breached regulations with alleged undisclosed payments through the controversial EBT tax avoidance scheme.

But in the meantime Gers boss McCoist can now finally prepare for a match in charge after previously arranged pre-season friendlies had to be cancelled due to the club not having its SFA licence in place.

They now go into Sunday’s historic match at Glebe Park with a wafer-thin squad although former Hearts trio Ian Black, Craig Beattie and Kevin Kyle have all been training at Murray Park and could possibly be listed as trialists.
A statement was issued by the SFL which said: "We are pleased to confirm that agreement has been reached on all outstanding points relating to the transfer of the Scottish FA membership between Rangers FC (In Administration), and Sevco Scotland Ltd, who will be the new owners of The Rangers Football Club.
"A conditional membership will be issued to Sevco Scotland Ltd today, allowing Sunday’s Ramsdens Cup tie against Brechin City to go ahead.
"Following the completion of all legal documentation, the Scottish Premier League will conduct the formal transfer of the league share between RFC (IA) and Dundee FC on no later than Friday 3rd August 2012. At this point, the transfer of Scottish FA membership will be complete.
Key points:
- The Scottish FA has received all necessary information and documentation from Sevco Scotland Ltd, including details of the company structure, shareholders, financial projections and business plan.
- Sevco Scotland Ltd has agreed to accept all conditions relating to RFC (IA)'s charges of bringing the game into disrepute, namely the 12-month transfer embargo, beginning at 0.01a.m on 1st September 2012, and payment of all outstanding fines and costs.
- Sevco Scotland Ltd has agreed to settle all outstanding football debts to other members of the Scottish FA plus clubs under the jurisdiction of other Football Associations.

“There were a number of complex and challenging issues involved but, primarily, the Scottish FA had to be satisfied that the new owners of Rangers would operate in the best interests of the club, its fans and Scottish football in general.
“We have reached agreement on all terms and conditions attached to the transfer of membership and are able to grant conditional membership, ahead of the formal transfer of the SPL share a week today. This will allow the season to kick-off as planned this weekend and I am sure there will be many who will join me in welcoming the start of the new football season in Scotland.
“This has been a difficult period for Scottish football, but with this agreement now in place, and with the new season upon us, it is essential that we all focus our energies on football once again. In the months ahead, the Scottish FA will resume discussions on the subject of league reconstruction. We remain committed to this process in order to re-energise the national game and will work closely with the SPL, SFL and all other relevant affiliated bodies to provide a dynamic product appealing to our supporters."
Charles Green, Chief Executive of The Rangers Football Club, said: “The agreement signed today allows Rangers to be granted membership by the SFA and finally enables the Club to move forward.
“The Board, the manager and senior executives have been working tirelessly over the last few weeks to secure the future of the Club and today is the start of that process.

I was in Kelty during the week , and the locals were bemoaning the fact that the local Junior team ( Kelty Hearts ) had a match against Newco/Sevco called off because of problems with an SFA license . Could that match have gone ahead if it had been billed as Kelty Hearts  - V - Ibrox XI ( or something like that ) , a fair chance lack of time could sink the prospects of that fixture being played .

I work with one of the Kelty backroom staff so will keep you up to date.
He actually showed me one of the printed tickets for the match on the day it was called off.  He was naturally upset as he is a Rangers man as well & was looking forward to pitting his wits against Super Ally & co lol.
They had to build temp stands for TV camera`s and the 2500 sell out attendance.
They also had temp corporate facilities available on the day.
Tickets were priced at £5 a head.

The CVA document suggested Rangers' creditors would get less than £1m if the club were to be liquidated. So the question remains: if another party was prepared to offer, say, £10m, can the Duff & Phelps-Green deal be ripped up? The big question why was this not allowed to happen ,  reports are saying consortiums  have proof THAT DUFF AND PHELPS would not entertain any their bids , it was handed to mr green on a plate , and as you point out to the expense of the creditors ....in my opinion the whole thing stinks

In regards to the 10 points, they went from 4 points behind to 14 (I think) which took away any chance they had of another tainted title. The momentum was with Celtic at that point anyway, but that was still a punishment in my view.

10 points seems to work well enough in England, maybe due to leagues being more competitive. Teams still work it to their advantage at times though.

What is the alternative? 20 points? Demotion of places? If Rangers had been demoted to 3rd or 4th then some would still say that made no difference. A fine seems pointless. Transfer embargo?

Discretion in this matter is not an option. Those in charge are gutless and incompetent. If they ever made a decision, they would be accused of bias from one side or other.

LAWWELL VOTED ON TO NEW LOOK SFA BOARD

Peter Lawwell has been voted onto the new look Professional Game Board of the SFA brought into force following last month’s AGM which outlined widespread changes in the running of the game.
With the old committee structure blown away two new bodies have been created to look after the professional and the non-professional side of the game.
Lawwell has been voted onto the nine man Professional Game Board which will be chaired by Rod Petrie of Hibs. All of the big hitters in the game are on the board including the Chief Executive’s of the SFA, SPL and SFL in the shape of Stewart Regan, Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir. SFA President Campbell Ogilvie is also on the board.
It is expected that the mysterious working and bizarre punishments of the old regime will be replaced by a new era of transparency and accountability with the presence of Lawwell and others almost certain to ensure that the recommendations of the McLeish Report are followed through.
Rangers recent takeover and boardroom turmoil means that there are no representatives of the Ibrox club involved.
Strangely four members of the Professional board will also sit on the board of the Non Professional Game Board with Regan, Petrie, Ogilvie and Alan McRae enjoying double dunts.

I never saw the banner in question on Subday, Im not sure it is a subject I want to comment on either. I am vaguely aware of what happened all those years ago but I would`nt hold the actions of some against a club or the decent members of its support.

Please tell me to whom the Rangers assets should have been sold to and for what purpose?

murray park should have been sold for housing (subject to planning sanity presumably as apartments with no accomodation on the ground floor since they built it on a flood plain judging by the time i walked past) or bought by the council or a private school (or two) or a university and used as a sports facility.

ibrox is more tricky but if it had been up on the market for £2m don't you reckon someone would have found a use for it? if you scrapped the whole thing what would the materials alone be worth, never mind the land that was left over (even if you were just going to stick warehouses or something on it)?

but feck's idea makes more sense as far as ibrox is concerned.

Rangers have received full membership of the Scottish Football Association, the governing body has confirmed.

The relaunched Ibrox club have obtained the old Rangers' licence to play after the latter headed for liquidation.

Rangers were granted a conditional membership last week which allowed their Ramsdens Cup win at Brechin to go ahead.

Membership was confirmed after Rangers' Scottish Premier League share was given to Dundee.
