Alan Hansen is an absolute ass licker - he knows england have been shyte but wont upset anybody -
He says at the end of the game that England have been average all tournament , so why , before the game did he say we'd win in 90 minutes when italy had drew with spain and croatia ?????

Agree with that donny. The bbc's radio commentary and analysis is usually better than their tv output (except Alan green of course).

Alan Green totally called things this morning regarding the England team. He offers far greater insight than we have heard from any Beeb panel at this tourno. It's an ex-players' club and they are mostly a patriotic embarrassment.

Kick out Hansen and Shearer. Lawrenson can stay. Graham Taylor called it before the tournament even began: "England's rigid 4-4-2 formation concerns me. We need to have more flexibility. We didn't see the wide men come in, they stayed there. Against the very, very good national sides we would definitely be in trouble playing this way. "If we do end up playing a 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1 and then don't have enough flexibility, then we won't succeed, either in the short term or the long term. You can have success playing with those formations but you need good movement for them to work. "You will not succeed at international level unless you have some flexibility and movement. |

To be fair, he just stated about England what to any objective observer with a knowledge of football would see as the blindingly obvious. If your midfield can't retain the ball, it it virtually impossible to win unless it is some kind of freak occurence a la Chelsea v Barca. He's hardly reinvented the wheel.

It has nothing to do with formation, it is to do with a lack of technique, he should have gotten on his knees and begged Scholes to come. Wilshire would also have added greatly as he can actually pass and retain the football.

Best pundits for me are Roy Keane, Gareth Southgate, Gary Neville and Lee Dixon. Some of those on the Beeb have simply been there too long and need putting to roost.

Scholes in his pomp was a quality Eng player but even in his pomp he was often asked to play out of position. Le Tournoi 1997 was a 'recent' high point of England football. We passed the ball fantastically with Scholes the fulcrum. But our media did what it always does, decided to flex its muscles and get rid of Hoddle.

I can't remember why I watched back on some England games last week, but some of the football under Hoddle was head and shoulders the best we've played in 30 years, only matched by El Tel in Euro 96 and some of Bobby Robson's games.

Its staggering to me that the cream of our footballers cannot control,recive or pass the ball.Weve all played the game.Is it really that difficult? Personally i used to find it easy to pass from A to B. Our passing and ball control is shocking.

It's laughable how thick Alan Shearer is. His comments are so obvious they are genuinely embarrassing at times. Keown is awful on the sideline, and Hansen is also poor, but is made to look good by the likes of Shearer and Keown. Keane is brilliant. He just says it how it is, and couldn't care less what people make if his views, which of course results in a great pundit.

Surely this tourno has shown why the old-fashioned pundit panel of ex-players and dreadful commentators in the Tydesley/Pearce/Mowbray mould need to be ditched.
