Shocking to look back and see how press treated utter gent bobby robson

Totally. Would you blame Roy Hodgson if he resigned if England won these Championships and save him the knives of a press who are already out to get him anyway.

suppose you've gotta remember it was on the back of a calamitous euro 88. he offered his resignation afterwards. the gutter press will have wanted him out for the 2 years preceding italia 90

1990 England's Best World Cup in Living Memory.

7 matches

1 win, 1-0 versus Egypt

Crazy

There's one thing questioning his football because you can embellish Robson's reign up or down very justifiably. However, if I recall correctly, the press lynched Robson more than any other England manager for other stuff. And Bobby Robson - nor any man really - deseerves that.

Most of those scumbag press mob still around, still making a living telling lies.

To show no bias towards England.

This was also Ireland's best World Cup ever

5 matches

0 wins Crazy

Started and ended with multiple red cards amid some shocking scenes and brilliantly the Argies losing both games. But yes, as much as it was great memories in hindsight it was a dull tournament. Had England not done anything it would have been one to forget.

i recall it being a very nervy tight world cup with a load of matches going to extra time and pens.... drama filled!

yep that opening game was a classic. always remember the first cameroon player trying to take out caniggia and then the 2nd bloke made no mistake and  just completely wiped him out. you get that any more

Tournaments are not about performances... they are about getting through, whichever way you can.

Vastly misunderstood.

Until Woy got the job, and now we are on our way.

lineker's equaliser was a moment i shall never forget Cool, same as Waddle's pen that was blazed over the bar Cry to his credit , Waddle hit the inside of the post in extra time , I had forgot about thatConfused

shame really cos the argies were there for the taking in the final , they were really lucky to have even made it that far IIRC and whoever won that semi was nailed on to win the tourney
By:

played really well against holland who were of course european champions and zee germans but muddled our way through the rest of it.

ireland game was shocking and we were largely outplayed by belgium and cameroon

argies had about 4 players suspended for the final. how they made it i'll never know. got absolutely murdered by brazil and somehow nicked it 1 nil
By:

and of course back then yellow cards were not thrown around like confetti

I didn't watch the documentary but was that the world cup where lineker had to dive twice in the penalty box for england to beat cameroon?

I seem to remember england holding on desperately against belgium before platt scored a last minute  welbeck.

wasn't bobby robson and the team being slated by press and fans before that?

Aah! the good old days.

If somehow England had beaten Germany in that shoot out ,,,,,the only team they would have beaten along the way to get to the World Cup Final would have been Egypt.

Would be surprised if anyone had been as unconvincing as that.

Superb at this stats lark aren't you. Define win. And list all the teams in the world who beat us.
