I know i do, but more this year. I feel i have more in common with ROI than England but that is probably down to my club team.
Having watched Sir Kevin Doyle since his first game for Reading he is one of my favourite ever players.
Add Stephen Hunt, Shane Long & Simon Cox then i am almost buying a shirt.
Plus i love an underdog.
Still remember ROI in the world cup in the usa, that was epic.

No, I don't have any strong thoughts at all on Ireland and don't really have any allegiances to change. There's little prospect of my home team qualifying for any major tournament finals, so not really bothered, apart from at a betting level or a Fantasy Football level. In terms of football support, I'm very much club over country.

As I said earlier I have been to loads of games abroad and never cease to be amazed at what armchair fans see as the major incidents. Charleroi looked worse because of the water cannon. The truth is that there were virtually no German fans in the square and there was barely a punch thrown. It was a non event but looked great for the media who wanted to report trouble.
One of the worst incidents in recent years was Zurich 2003 the night before the Liechtenstein game however this never gets mentioned because it wasn't reported on as the media were all in Vaduz.
The bottom line is that if you are relying on the media to get an overview of England fan abroad you will have a ridiculously distorted view.

TBH most Paddies cheer against the English just for a bit of craic. At the end of the day as soon as Ireland knocked out most of us will be cheering on England or at the very least the team that is playing the best football.

I don't get it. Why should anyone English want the Irish to win any more, for example, than they would want the French to win? Where is that spurious link the media peddle between Britain and Ireland? As far as I can see the link is one of violence and resentment. As someone else said, I would support Scotland to win against Ireland, because of their British status. I am not a big England fan or anything like that - the fact that most of the players have huge egos and act like overpaid children does not endear me to support them.

I assume you are counting the 1988 victory but not the 1985 defeat despite it being less than 30 years ago.
To be fair there have only been 6 games in 30 years and one of those was abandoned so one win nearly 25 years ago plus 3 draws and a defeat isn't really cause for celebration.
Add to that 2 of the draws formed part of a failed qualification attempt for Euro 92 for Ireland and I think that all in all it isn't very spectacular.
Perhaps you should invite England to play at the Aviva. That would make for an interesting weekend!

Not sure where I have made any excuses. I merely commented that the authorities were quick to abandon the game. I have stood in grounds in East Europe with fans throwing concrete lumps at the England end, firing flares at us and trying to smash down the fences to get at us and the games haven't even been halted let alone abandonded.

a bit overly simplistic of me to suggest all the fans disgraced themselves when of course it was just a minority but I'd say it was easily grounds to call the game off.
