That was a mental, mental game.

She had 8 match points!
Report The Bhoys May 29, 2012 8:01 PM BST
is this the biggest?

up there, but not as big as Nadal beaten at 1.01 few weeks ago.

Number 1 rule in tennis, lay all the 1.01
you make a fortune
Report EdwardWoowardWould May 29, 2012 8:10 PM BST
I have to say I have a little chuckle when these get beat

Quite why someone who has £100 needs £101 so badly is beyond me
Report Platini May 29, 2012 8:11 PM BST
it's not the £100 quid punters that back em. It's the 1k, 10k punters.
Report Bruce Willis May 29, 2012 8:11 PM BST
haha, so true
the types of people betting 1.01's keep the exchange wheel alive
Report Mariner Paul May 29, 2012 8:16 PM BST
I would have thought that those who back at 1.01 are doing very well for themselves.
Report henok May 29, 2012 8:34 PM BST
anyone who backed below 1.05 in this particular game deserves to lose. well done winners

I've won two of these this week. Azaranka (1.01 to 4.2) and now Serena. I lay all faves at 1.01 to 1.06 or so, and lost every match up until Serena, was having a totally miserable day, but with these kind of bets you only lose a couple of quid, so when the jackpot does come it feels amazing! Best thing about the WTA is the number of breaks. Far more than the mens game, which makes trading a lot of fun. Let's have another one tomorrow!

I frequently bet on low odds.  Took Serena Set 2 Winner at 1.1
Report loadedgimp May 29, 2012 10:34 PM BST
I could have traded both the losses out at 1.02 but I failed to do so, not often you'd see Serena lose from 5-1 in a tiebreak.  One of the biggest freak results recently, also had £500+ profit sitting on Serena outright that was wasted.  Umpire cost Serena the match, but I have no qualms about it.
Total PL today is -60 at the moment (blew 100 on Russia HT in a moment of madness as a result of Serena losing 2nd set)

most of the people who bet heavy at 1.01 are doing very well for themselves. Most of them are doing it %based and I'd guess as a living and long-term will make a lot of money

how so?

admittedly only watched the later part of it so if you mean second set okay, but Serena's stupid play on most of the break points was one of the main reasons. going for return winners when all she needed to do really was keep it in play

Tennis > S Williams v Razzano : Match Odds    Showing 1 - 4 of 4 Selections

Virginie Razzano    *    1.38    1,390.00    Lay         -531.14

Basically when Serena's head dropped and she started smacking it into the net.  Never afraid to switch positions.

Aaronh - the umpire was terrible and it was very harsh for Serena.  She hit a winner after 5-1 and the umpire made her replay the point (happened multiple times when the noises weren't really very loud).  Thankfully Serena got given a let off later on allowing me to boost my profit but got caught with a lot of green on Serena.

agree but the issue is people will panic in these matches and go all red on the big fave..who then makes a big comeback and it can all go tits up

I don't belive that this system (1.01) will generate long-term lot of money.
After one loss you NEED more than 100 wins (commision) only to get your money back.

Report cnman May 29, 2012 11:28 PM BST
yeah but people have systems set up that only fail 1 in every 103 times or something. They know long term they will be profitable. I'm not one of these people btw, but it can certainly be done if you know what you're doing
Report loadedgimp May 29, 2012 11:30 PM BST
I greened out, only switched because Serena looked crap at the time.
Taffkoi - you are looking at it wrong.  A winning bet = x% of stake won.  A losing bet = 100% of stake lost.  Whether the odds be 1.01 or 3.1 it won't make a difference if it loses.
Report loadedgimp May 29, 2012 11:39 PM BST
Not entirely sold on the whole value thing, if it loses you lose your money.  If it wins it wins you money.  Price can help if you have a low strike rate, but strike rate is more important.  I don't care about the price I get on 90% of bets, I just choose them if I think they win.

I suppose the tennis forum might be more interested in this type of thread because I sure fecking aint?
Report loadedgimp May 29, 2012 11:44 PM BST
Those who stand by it are yet to prove anything to the forum.  I have made several threads and posted on several which prove value isn't everything.  Under 6.5 thread occasionally points out value bets but generally they are taking any price when they think there won't be 7 goals.
Tobermory has started a value-based betting thread, not convincing for me but good on him for trying.  Of course if value is blatant, it's a good bet to make but maybe not sensible if it's unlikely to win.
Report Arai May 29, 2012 11:52 PM BST
loaded' i am with you - who cares if it looks like value if it aint going to win.  Just buy the money, then loose it all, seems to be my story.
