Local firms in Northern Ireland have suspended betting after Rodgers' brother seemingly got a 5 figure sum on him at 1/5. Rumour has it he will sign a deal tomorrow after the two clubs thrash out a severance deal.

I see this poster on anything 'Liverpool" it seems he has an unhealthy obsession with that team.

A little sad really when all you can do is snipe.

I think Rogers could be a brilliant Manager at Liverpool who despite the ramblings of this moron are a storied team who would make the Premier a much better league if they return to former glories.

I have no doubt he once talked about Man City in the same vain, Karma is a wonderful thing

I don't understand why Brendan Rodgers' price is so short. He will be as reluctant to work under a Director of football as Martinez was. In football terms, he is still raw (even more so than Martinez) and has a patchy enough record (did ok at Watford, bombed at Reading, has done well at Swansea).

I would have the two men equal prices at the moment.

Having been a Liverpool fan for 25 years and once a season ticket holder before I moved down London way, if this is ture it just goes to show how far our once great club as fallen.

To appoint Rodgers or anyone with only 1 season in the prem behind them is a complete joke.

At least Martinez has 4 season behind in the prem and not forgetting he was the man who got Swansea playing this type of football and started moving the club forward.

I am not one of these LFC fans who still think we can win the league etc etc and I know we cannot obtain the "top" managers, that is very clear.

Therefore we must look for up and coming younger managers but to appoint someone with one fair season in the prem is such the wrong way to go.

Knowing that LFC have no other options than that type of manager Martinez is the only choice, 4 years prem season behind him and plays decent football I can't see how Rodgers can even be in the frame imo.

Agree completely. I'll be sorry to see Rodgers go and no bitterness from me. Unfortunately, that's football and I've got total faith in the board to appoint the right man to build on his work, just as he's built on the work Martinez and Sousa did.

A slight touchy there for some reason, given his squad and the expectations of Swansea City before the season i think he has done wonders. Lets be honest they were bankers to go down according to the bookies and Swansea and Norwich were the least fancied to stay up.

Read the post again and i think it was positive about Rodgers judging by what some Liverpool fans are saying on the forums, he plays the game like it should be played. Liverpool famous for their pass and move of yesteryear should embrace the fact they have someone who is at least willing to play the type of football that even Barca play but with out the quality that they have of course. How many managers would attempt to try play like that in the face of a possible relegation battle.

every managerial appointment is a gamble unless your going for someone like Mourinho. Di Mateo has just won the CL and FA Cup with Chelsea after being sacked by WBA!! Very often its about being the right man for the right job at the right time and past experiences aren't as important as some people think.

Liverpool weren't in a position to go for the very top level manager so whoever they went for represented a risk.
Report berto77 May 30, 2012 4:45 PM BST
A side issue I know, but does anyone think Rodgers preferred style of play will be knock it up to Big Andy?  Or indeed think he's technically good enough to be the first choice striker in a measured, passing game.

Please can we have a 'Who will Carroll move to' market.

Report Dylan1975 May 30, 2012 4:50 PM BST
its all relative, whose more of a risk Rodgers or AVB?? Given what went on at Chelsea most definitely AVB even though he had a great season at Porto. Whoever you bring in is a risk and there's an element of luck whether it will work out or not, you have to trust the owners to make the decision.
Report MilanBarosh May 30, 2012 4:52 PM BST
how many Liverpool players will be looking for new employers as a result of this appointment...it's hardly gunna fill them full of confidence knowing they have an apprentice in charge !
Report high_lander May 30, 2012 4:53 PM BST
berto77, you make a good point, Andy Carrol might be a huge problem for Rodgers. We know he is all about a slick passing game and he def wont want a big slow lumbering centre-forward. I wonder if the owners will let Rodgers drop him or sell him even, or will he have to compromise?

I can see a lot of problems. Is Rodgers the type of manager able to attract and gain the respect of top players?
Report Dylan1975 May 30, 2012 4:59 PM BST
i think Carroll could fit in Swansea play with a big forward although hes probably a bit more mobile than Carroll. One of the problems Barcelona sometimes run into is they have nobody that can give them that physical threat if plan B isn't working, in the 2 games against Chelsea for example they were happy to let them have it in wide positions because they knew there was no threat from crosses. Someone like Carroll does give them that threat and its another option if plan A isn't working.

I think in the system Rodgers plays the passing is done a lot at the back and through the midfield so you dont neccessarily need a forward to be involved too much in that, his hold up play is good maybe he needs to get a bit more mobile but if you have those plays in and around him i think it can work. Rodgers was complimentary of Carroll very recently.

Reading finished 8th in their 1st year in prem Swansea 10 or 11 I think. But have to say Siggy signing would have been good for Liverpool and could keep Swansea in the prem next year was hoping Reading would buy him back.Good for 15+ goals a season.
