unless everyones got it very wrong, he's going to liverpool, but he could be in miami to see lerner.

One i wouldn't mind at VP is Hoddle, just as long as Eileen isn't his assistant.
Report Horangi. May 25, 2012 12:33 PM BST
Interesting action on Rafa.  Maybe the guy on standby after Martinez?
Report GAZO May 25, 2012 12:40 PM BST
would have thought rafa would want too much money for players, which he wont get at villa
Report VillaDEMON May 25, 2012 1:51 PM BST
The only reason Poyet is currently fav is cause a certain someone on this forum made a thread about it and everyone jumped on it........he is not gonna be the new Villa manager, if he somehow does get it then there is something seriously wrong with my club!

Good sauces suggest Villa want Lambert but Norwich telling them to go away.  So either Villa turn their attention to another (perhaps Benitez) or Lambert could resign I suppose.
Report VillaDEMON May 25, 2012 3:22 PM BST
I don't want Lambert, not good enough for Villa in my opinion, hasn't got enough experience!
Report GAZO May 25, 2012 3:25 PM BST
would lambert want it,he has a cushy job at norwich and villa have made it known he was not one of their first choices
Report Horangi. May 25, 2012 3:36 PM BST
I think he wants it, Norwich got limited funds and lets face it despite what the league table tells us Villa are a step up.  Villa surely wouldn't be waiting like this unless they sounded him out through third party types to gauge his interest.

His behavior at those press conferences are a dead giveaway.  The guy is on edge when his future is brought up and refuses to state that he'll be back with Norwich next year.
Report Horangi. May 25, 2012 3:44 PM BST
Wonder if Martinez says no to Liverpool if Villa will swoop in.  Whelan no problems wheeling and dealing his manager.
Report GAZO May 25, 2012 3:46 PM BST
martinez is no gimme for liverpool, dont think he will have has much power over things as he would want

Kendrick of Birmingham Mail suggests Lerner ready to offer Martinez a lucrative contract and he would have more control.

Even if I wasn't a Villa fan, as a manager I think i'd prefer the Villa job to the Liverpool one!
Report JoshT May 25, 2012 5:45 PM BST
lambert won't go to villa, he's got a good job at norwich, why would he swap it for a worse job where he wouldn't get that much more to spend. If villa have money they could tempt rafa, if not, they'll have to look to the lower leagues: grayson, poyet etc
Report mexicano May 25, 2012 5:47 PM BST
the answer to the original question is

not if they've got any sense.
Report JoshT May 25, 2012 5:48 PM BST
if they had any sense they wouldn't of hired mcleish tbh, they could do anything
Report mexicano May 25, 2012 5:52 PM BST
i wasn't talking about villa having any sense, i was saying any manager who had any sense. they are just a basket case. and any young manager will do his carrer irrepairable harm by going there.

really regretting getting involved with this market, why can't they just sign benitez or poyet and get it over with
Report Horangi. May 25, 2012 7:09 PM BST
It is really dragging on.  Spending way too many hours following this.

Guessing they want Martinez and are waiting, after that seems like Lambert still in the mix.  The betting on Rafa suggests that option is also another backup, if not the first backup.
Report Horangi. May 25, 2012 7:11 PM BST
Anybody notice that large block in the Liverpool market?  Somebody confident Martinez ain't getting that job.
Report JoshT May 25, 2012 7:14 PM BST
ye saw that, I'm greened out on martinez on both villa and pool so I'm fine. These markets really are pure speculation, nobody actually knows what they're talking about, comeon villa, poyet or benitez please, can't have another saga after the OGS one and now the martinez one
Report Horangi. May 25, 2012 7:15 PM BST
I'm confident 9's plus on Martinez in this market is good value.  If he doesn't get Liverpool surely he's not going to limp back to Wigan.  It seems like an offer from Lerner is definitely there.
Report JoshT May 25, 2012 7:20 PM BST
i reckon liverpool will take him, purely because i can't see who else would take the job. Benitez looks like a good bet for villa, no-one wants him after his flop with inter and villa will go for him over any lower league manager (poyet, grayson etc)
Report Horangi. May 25, 2012 7:29 PM BST
Heard Hoddle's name thrown around as given an interview.  Sort of fits their criteria but surely a deep back up if that.

On paper I'd think a guy like Laudrup fits perfectly but the word is he's still talking to Liverpool.
Report JoshT May 25, 2012 7:37 PM BST
jesus starting to hate liverpool and villa more and more, why did i think it was ever a good idea to get involved in this. they're just shooting themselves in the foot by delaying it, showing interest in more and more people, if i knew i was liverpools 4th choice i'd tell them to sod off
Report Corky May 25, 2012 7:51 PM BST
Villa the best job out there.

Pay is fine (Didn't I read that Mcginger was in the top 20 highest paid manager in the WORLD) Cry

After Ginge, the new manager will get MASSIVE good will from the fans.

So long as there is some attempt at attacking fotball, a mid table finish will be tolerated.

Now that the big earners are being shown the door there WILL be money available.

Who would want to follow King Kenny into Anfield. Poison chalice of a job.
Report Horangi. May 25, 2012 7:52 PM BST
Both jobs arent bad from the standpoint the new man is coming in at a time when the teams are underachieving.  Nowhere to go but up really.
Report Hamsterdam May 25, 2012 8:19 PM BST
As a Villa fan I'm amazed we are being linked with Rafa and his position in the market. Have you seen his CV? Would be a massive coup if we did get him I'm surprised people think he is obtainable for us.

What would be funny if we got Rafa and Liverpool got Martinez LaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

They would hate that !!
Report JoshT May 25, 2012 8:30 PM BST
