Jan Aage Fjoroft has just tweeted the following about the possibility of Solskjaer taking over at Villa:

"Randy Lerner' s private jet is observed in Kristiansund. Lerner is owner of Aston Villa. Kristiansund is Solskjærs hometown. #avfc"

Anyone think this story has any legs?

Aha, a nickname gag for Iron Man Ole.  Nice play on words.

In their current predicament, Villa will be mad to appoint a novice who's only experience is winning the Norwegian league.

Whoever is advising Lerner on managerial targets needs to go.

Fair enough then. I wonder if he'll be tempted or whether he'll want another season there, and to see how far he can take Molde in the champions league.

Let's face it, another year there won't do him any harm.

Are Aston Villa in a solid enough position to take a risk on an inexperienced manager?
Playing with fire if they do I reckon.

Looks like this is a realy goer then. Some would say slightly risky but I think he could be the ideal man for Villa. Just a shame I dodn't get on it at 2.20 when I posted this thread and instead watched the price get smashed Sad

Lower Championship,higher League One?

He's got nothing to lose coming to Villa at the moment, he's not gonna do worse than AM is he! Villa should be finishing in the top 10 at least and pushing for a european place with the likes of Everton, Newcastle and Spurs, we just need a manager with a few ideas and plays attacking football not defensive like AM! Hopefully Solskjaer can give us this and get us back where we should be!
Report ShirleyKnot May 18, 2012 3:39 PM BST
He particularly has nothing to lose as it looks like Milde are up for sale their backer is withdrawing.  AND, you will like this, Ole has won more games at Villa Park than Alex Mcleish has.

Update people:   Talks have finished.  Ole is on his way back to Norway.  No word about his Misses or his agent (1) who traveled out with him but I guess they are on the same plane.

(1) Guess what his agents name is.

In terms of club size, definitely league one, their crowds barely touch 10k.

As for the standard, i'd say mid-championship. Some decent players there but on the whole not great. Steffen Iversen still gets a game over there!!

As a Villa fan for over 40yrs, even i have to admit that our expectations have been unrealistic since we won the European cup in 82, but now i think most Villa fans are slowly realising that at the moment we are just a top ten team, top six if very lucky, so Ole is in a win win situation, if he gets us into the top half of the Prem he will be a hero, and he should do that.

I think this a good opportunity to back Solskjaer.  Good sources still seem to think this is nailed on. Odds over evens look very good.

Solskjaer just biting his tongue a bit because he still has to explain himself to Molde.

Report Horangi. May 18, 2012 9:58 PM BST
These manager markets always have their twists and turns.  Pretty certain Solskjaer is not nailed on at all.  As Villa are saying looks like they are looking at a few candidates, Ole being one.
Report Hamsterdam May 18, 2012 11:33 PM BST
Yup despite me telling everyone to lump on yesterday this has gone luke-warm now - he may still get it but don't be backing odds-on no way. Lay-up if you have a big green on him.
Report Horangi. May 18, 2012 11:39 PM BST
Ole probably wants it but the situation now left at Molde is a bit of a mess.  May feel obliged to hang around a little longer.  Time will tell.

May want to try Benitez for this position as well.  Was in the mix last time and if Liverpool bypass him his options are really narrowing as each day passes by.  If Lerner gives him a decent war chest I'm sure he'd jump at the opportunity.
Report Ilnamar May 19, 2012 8:11 AM BST
With a bit of luck Villa will interview several candidates and they will all go odds on when Lerner's jet is seen landing on their front lawns...
