He needs more time to finish the demolition job he began.

Absolutely, he's a proven non winner in the Prem.

For once I also agree with Fergie, he was so lucky to win the CL with Liverpool.

cob, you know me, I love nothing better than having characters like Rafa, Keegan, Jose etc in the Premiership. I have been saying it for ages.

Irony is such a delicious thing. Roy had to try and do his job with Dalglish looking over his shoulder and making "moves" which didn't help Roy.

Whilst Dalglish has been trying to do his job knowing Rafa is still hanging around Liverpool "just in case".

Gerrard wanted Roy, then he wanted him sacked, now he thinks he is the right man for England and has got the captaincy. Gerrard then wanted Dalglish and if the stories are right he then wanted shot of Dalglish.

Gerrard wanted Rafa, then wanted him sacked and now.......

Are your lot trying to rival JT and his posse Devil

Is there no fecking honour left around Stanley Park??

Pete you seem to know far more than me tbh about politics inside clubs, I cant comment on something I have absolutely no idea about.

Just one thing though, you seem to know Gerrard wanted Hodgson gone but it obviuosly must have escaped Hodgsons knowledge or else he wouldn't have made Stevie his Captain? Where do you get your info from?

lol cob, how the hell did you remain so diplomatic there?!!Grin

I don't know but most of what I have got regarding the "politics" inside Liverpool are far regular contributors on the Liverpool thread. I rightly presume they know more of what is going on inside the club than I do.

You give me the impression that you are surprised that Gerrard wanted Roy gone. Is that not true?

Once you realise that if Gerrard had not made it as a footballer then he would have been on the dole, then you can complete the circle

Albert, I've just decided to ignore the finance issue with football.

Clearly it would have been brilliant if we won with Franny Lee still owning us & still at Maine Road, but that was never going to be. I'm just switching off to the finance bit because ultimately I can't do a thing about it. Just enjoying the football, which at some points this season has been just fabulous.
By:

When: 16 May 12 22:22
Yep agree Albert re the modern football. Dave has got it right too and knows that Franny owning the club and winning it would have been the ultimate.

We went to Sunderland on Sunday and tried to replicate the old days. We went early, drank in the Sunderland pubs, had a sing song "competition" with their fans, watched the game in their end (for a little while). Had a load of pints back in the City centre, more songs and then got home after midnight.

Other than a few skirmishes, chucked out of the ground, despair after our neighbours scored two late goals and most people spewing up on the way home, it was a great day out.

That used to be our life, we did it every week for years and when you weren't doing it you were thinking about the next match.

Now we have these mercenaries who only play for the money (I include some of our players) and don't care two hoots about the likes of us and you wonder if it is worth giving them the support that we do.

My last post might explain my "Liverpool post" earlier. It is the frustration I and others feel with players so called loyalties that change with the wind, saying one thing one week and then the opposite another.
By:
DaveEdwards
When: 16 May 12 22:35
Pete, I totally agree about the loyalty issue. Clubs that are more interested in exploiting the unwavering loyalty of fans who have supported clubs their whole life just to increase their bottom line don't deserve any loyalty whatsoever in truth.

It´s 2012 people, fans are more fickle than ever, and why shouldnt a multi billion pound industry cash in on that? you dont buy into that concept- then its Rugby League for you.

Rugby League? Not in my lifetime....

As I said above abu, I'm just ignoring the financing thing and enjoying the football for what it is on the pitch. No amount of moralising on my part will change anything.

abu, in the last few seasons we have had clubs charging us twice as much for tickets to away matches in Europe than the usual price. We have complained about this as there is a Uefa ruling on it but clubs just find some way of getting round it.

How can that be right? just because football is a multi billion pound industry is it stupid enough to lose the very fans who made it that? we are sick of being ripped off.

Sunderland reduced our ticket allocation for a potential title decider because United fans persistently stand up at away matches. The Sunderland lads on here will tell you that their own fans do the same in one section and they were stood all match on sunday. Liverpool reduced our tickets, Middlesboro used to do it, City did it. All of them had different reasons.

SAF hit the nail on the head "We sell their corporate hospitality for them so they need our fans tickets"

You will end up with very few proper fans and the stadiums will be full of corporate hospitality.

CCM, compared to your last two managers he did a good job but at the time it was perceived as a bad job relative to the expectations. Most people on your thread, or at least a lot of people on your thread wanted him out. Also you might be able to confirm whether he had "lost" the dressing room and which players wanted him out, because that seems to have been forgotten.

You lads know which manager is best for you so I am not saying he is right or he is wrong but it appears to me that some fans only remember the "good bits" of Rafa. I liked him and have said it many times.

Peter. The Liverpool fans who wanted Rafa out should now be hanging their head in shame. The vast majority didnt imo.

Those who wanted him out (and the fans of rival clubs who thought he was useless) are those that were living in a time warp and still felt Liverpool should be competing for the league.

Yes he had lost the dressing room... but thats mostly because Gerrard and Carragher behaved like such pr1cks and think they know whats nest for the club. I actually said I thought he should go by the end, but only because so many people were against him.

With all due respect, its a bit patronising to say I only remember the good bits alone. I live and breathe LFC and as with most fans, I knew Rafa was far from perfect. But every Manager has his faults and what he achieved at the club should never be under estimated. He was in a different league to the 2 Managers that have follwed him, and if we can find a new man as good as him I will be surprised. It was a be careful waht you wish for scenario back then.

Arrrgghghh where has my post gone!

in short yep CCM I said the same back then and I knew the worst was going to happen with Hodgson. Yes we recovered with King Kenny back and yes the results werent good near the end but it was far better then the dross Roy got us playing.

If there was any negative I would highlight about the King's 2nd stay...the tactics\substitutions. Very strange at times.

Good post CCM and a very honest one. Many fans would not be as candid as you have been about the dressing room, Gerrard and Carragher. As for the "good bits" you will see that I was referring to "some fans" as there are quite a few threads on Rafa and it is amusing to see they are in selective mode.

I knew your views perfectly well as I always have a look in on your thread and your post above shows you have maintained those views. However I do have to say that as well as Rafa did for you, its incredible that his stock has risen since his sacking mainly because of the abject failure of Hodgson and Dalglish.

That is somewhat surprising when you think that Rafa lost your dressing room, failed to qualify for the CL, got sacked by Liverpool, then got sacked by Inter and has been unemployed since then but some fans now see him as the saviour. Its a bit like us going back for Sir Matt Busby after Frank O Farrel and Wild McGuiness made a pigs ear of it.

Morning Peter. But wouldn't a Managers stock always rise after successive ones perform so badly? Everyone can see, regardless of what they thought of him at the time, that maybe they had it wrong and he did do a good job at Liverpool? I always said that I felt Rafa over achieved for a good part of his tenure and was derided as a halfwit for saying so. He had earns the right to be let off for one bad season, especially with the major problems we had with the owners. Remember Everton finishing 17th and loads of there fans wanting Moyes gone? Wonder what they think now if they are honest. I have always believed long term stability is really important if your Manager gets it right more than he does wrong. And Rafa could have stayed with us for a long, long time.

In your last paragraph, you have just highlighted the negatives. Weigh them up with the positives, and I think the positives win by a mile.

I personally think he is a 100-1 shot to get it, and can't see FSG going for him anyway. Gerrad and Carragher will no doubt have their say and I dont believe they will be clamouring for his return. I can also see why you think it's a regressive step. But there is a massive absence of viable options to my eyes and lots of very risky options.
