not a possibility which means jones or johnson takes that berth
to finally show they can play together

either ribery or nasri will have that slow defence for dinner. As for parker, he'll get sent off within 20 minutes
|
|
By:
more than likely that would be the case if the game was opened up, but with the five in the middle being a difficult unit to break down is the way forward

England's squad is on a par with the likes of Croatia and Poland these days. Germany,Holland & Spain years ahead.

"Midfield is where it starts to get tricky but 3 central midfielders would be the way forward imo with parker-lampard-gerrard being the picks for obvious reasons, with the hope that parker sitting will allow the superstars Laugh to finally show they can play together
Wingers would have been young-lennon but lennon not included, so milner out the right will have to be the selection as i cant have walcott in my side" Surely you've realised by now that Lampard and Gerrard can't play well together? And if you're having those 2 and Parker in midfield then you can't have Milner out wide because there will be no pace whatsoever in that side, especially with Carroll up front too. We'll counter attack with the pace of a hippo. |

Can't help thinking we will do ok.
Roy will get them organised and hard to beat and will probably scrape through a tough group playing turgid stuff. We will then lose to the first decent team we meet on penos if we qualify. Nothing to see. |
|
By:
Bit of a contradiction there Roy

By:
Not really, all about perception and reality.

And our group isn't tough. Probably the easiest one there apart from Group A

since this is a betting site, where I can hopefully expect to hear reasoned debate about relative chances and odds (haha, not on this forum) can someone please please explain to me how England are favouties over France? I understand the French havent set the world alight in tournaments more than once in recent tournaments, but with Rooney out, along with our lack of quality in most areas of the field, I am struggling to work this out (actually I just want some re-assurance that my bet on France isnt deluded)
|
|
By:
England always go off shorter than they should be. In the case of this tournament they are much shorter than they should be.
|
|
By:
Can't work it out myself either.
France are unbeaten for nearly 2 years, and in that time won away to 4 Euro finalists (England, Germany, Ukraine and Poland) and also beat Brazil. Add to the fact we're a mess and without our best player and i can't possibly have England as faves for that game. |

at the italian way of going about things
Italy have a weak defence, talented midfield and small striker except balotelli who not really target man ( other cassano, Gio). So everything you say is opposite to Italy ![]() |
|
By:
it's got a 1992 feel to it hasnt it? England likely to be dogged, stubborn and physical and 0-0 savers may be the wya, but I cannot fathom the odds available on france, sweden and ukraine...

By:
Gareth Barry,James Milner, Jolyon Lescott,Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll.
None of these could get into a Sunday side. We,ve got some chance this summer. ![]() |

By:
France yes a team to back this time now they have that idiot remove from set up. They have so much talent and complete squad.
|
|
By:
I'm saying we really aren't very good so what i've detailed above, probably a quarter final exit would be doing just fine really.
|
|
By:
If you're playing Parker in the holding role you'll need to play Barry to sit deep as well as Parker will just run around after the ball and leave the defence exposed.
Re the odds v France, England are always way shorter than they should be given the weight of patriotic money that comes in for them. Same applies to Liverpool domestically. |
|
By:
yes thats true.
if you play gerrard with parker you can see tewwys lack of pace being exposed more than usual. you then got the problem that who ever is right side needs to watch johnson when he gets forward. its a nigtmare in the making |
|
By:
well done lagmorian you just picked the worst england side in the history of football
you cant have walcott but you can have the insipid and incredibly mediocre milner... why? ![]() you wanted to play lennon even though he makes average players look world class? wtf are you on son ?!?! caroll up front ![]() your team would lose every game and would not score even one goal |
|
By:
I would play milner for his workrate and tactical nous ( eg helping johnson) and for the reason i think walcott against any reasonable fullback is useless, but it would leave options open for walcott to come on and change the game with his explosive pace against a tiring defence.
Caroll is the best of a bad bunch im afraid and the best way to use him is to have 2 decent crossers of the ball in young and milner out the flanks (another reason if caroll is playing to play milner in ahead of walcott imo) Parker is in there to sit in front of the back 4 and if he is incapable of doing that job then you are in trouble because he is the better option imo than barry in that role. How many times have lampard and gerrard played in the same english team as parker ?? not many i would assume so it might work The lack of pace in the entire team generally is another reason to first of all concentrate on keeping the door shut at the back and trying to grind out wins like the SUCCESSFUL italian teams of the last 20 odd years kingofrome, not the current italian team My team metaphor is on paper not great but the game isnt played on paper ![]() |
|
By:
Mexes and Rami will control England forward line without Rooney very easy. Goal from midfield/wing player only way I see. France will dominate ball and England will create very few good chance. France are good bet
|
|
By:
why not have pace in the team? we have walcott, chamberlain and wellbeck at our disposal. play rooney in a floating attacking midfield role. i would probably start gerrard over lampard, they cant play together that's proven time an time again. replace one with the other depending who is on form or not injured. have ashley young on the left, walcott on the right. chamberlain would always come on for the last 25 mts. for the games rooney is banned i'd go with walcott up front along with wellbeck and play chamberlain from the start.
hart johnson cahill terry cole parker gerrard walcott young rooney wellbeck subs to be used; lampard, chamberlain. |
|
By:
Ambitious team selection and very attacking but would leave the defence exposed and the midfield light in the tougher games.
With parker and gerrard in a central midfield 2 (something neither player have played in all season btw) they would be exposed and bypassed easily imo, also young and walcott would not be the 2 wide men i would want in a midfield 4 either as they are explosive players who u want getting the ball in advanced positions with the freedom of a 5 man midfield At least with my team 3 of the defenders and all 5 midfielders are use to playing the 4-5-1 system for the majority of the season, a system which suits european football |

Park. The. Bus.

By:
I was thinking more along the lines of defending quite deep, inviting other sides to attack us and using pace to hit on the break. i'm merely capitalizing on our only assets... pace.
