I am looking forward to Messi v Luiz.

Wouldn't make a difference if David fecking Mellor was reffing. Chelsea can't beat Barca.
By:
because they're sh*t?

Chelsea are light years behind Barca with a braindead manager
By:
i wish chelsea all the luck in the world. keep the flag flying
By:
Would Luiz play??
By:
yeah.

lets be honest, its hard to remember two teams so far apart in ability in a champs league semi than barca and chelsea.. i never mind having long odds bet on over two legs at this stage but im struggling to think of a relistic price id be prepared to lay barca v chelsea.i assume barca will be 1.2ish to go thru and i just wouldnt want to lay that price

By:
Why cant Chelsea beat Barca? Because the Barca starting 11 is man for man 100% better than Chelsea's, and they have a better manager.

there are any amount of answers to the thread title, many of them are wearing blue shirts.
By:
Quite startling that not one single Chelsea player would get into Barca's strongest XI.
By:
When I say 'quite startling' I really mean, 'not at all surprising.'
By:
Chelsea could definitely KO Barcelona, in fact they are the one side that Barca actually fear. But the OP is right, the ref will help the Catalans.
By:
Barca :)
By:
i reckon barca will stroll into final won't be taking the 1.2 in the match odds but the goal markets should provide some winnings

Because no-one is on the same wavelength as Mata, cos they have Kalou and of course Messi plays for Barca.....

chelsea will obviously have to get everyone behind the ball and not give them an inch and hope to nick one on the break or from a set piece.
By:
i think barca fear chelsea in much the same way as a tyrannosaurus rex fears an ant

i mean an amoeba

I'm beginning to think High_lander is just on one big wind up.

Be funny if UEFA brought back Overebo

Wait for the odds to settle and then lump on Barca to qualify against Chelsea.
1.2+ |
By:
Disagree DZA, Luiz would look barcelona's best defender in that line up.
By:
Cole would get in at left back.
By:
funniest match ever. I cant wait!!!!! side show bob will get shown up here
By:
cole and luiz get in nae bother.

I thought Barcelona looked really shaky the other day, not the same team without Villa, nowhere near as good.
And all you doubters should remember the infamous game where Chelsea should have KO'd Barca, 3 stonewall pens not given. It wasn't that long ago. |
By:
Problem with that is barcelona have got better and chelsea worse highlander.
That chelsea team could certainly give this mob a game but they are playing from memory and are a shadow of the side. They will be mauled out of sight...just not good enough defensively. |
By:
Barca substantially better than that match. Chelsea substantially worse. It was a lifetime ago in football terms.
By:
Chelsea got played off the park tonight by a mediocre (by european standards) side
Barcelona will eat them alive, home and away. Not really looking forward to it tbh.....it will show how much further English football has fallen behind. |
By:
That's your opinion but I'm not so sure. Barcelona really struggled yesterday, they're just not as good as they used to be. I think the Catalans have peaked and are now on the wrong side of the bell curve.
And Chelsea are like Kryptonite to a team like Barcelona, stuffy, defensive minded, awkward, difficult to play through. Barcelona will not be looking forward to meeting Chelsea again. |
By:
Were like a krptonite team. With drogba in his pomp and wide men with pace they did not need the ball and could go direct on the break to barca's soft center.
But like I said shadow. They will be mauled. To progress they will have to win about 6-5 |

I wouldn't take Cole (as in this season's Ashley Cole) over Abidal -- but I happen to rate Abidal very highly, a Rolls Royce of a player. And Luiz wouldn't get in ahead of Pique or Puyol on their worst days, he is a poor defender. Luiz wouldn't get in ahead of Mascherano either, imo -- the latter has had a very good season playing centre-half. I don't recall Luiz playing well for 3 games in a row yet.
Chelsea are a decaying side. |
By:
Barca usually struggle against Top EPL sides. Chelsea are a tough side, you have to forget their form under AVB, they've proved they are still a very decent side since he left. My main worry is the amount of fixtures Chelsea have before they play Barcelona, that might be their undoing.
In many ways Chelsea are better equipped to beat Barcelona than Arsenal or ManU, both of those sides are too open, they are in effect trying to outplay Barcelona and we all know that's never gonna happen. Chelsea wont bother with that, instead they are content to be defensive, awkward and stuffy and Barcelona will not enjoy it. |

With respect this is exactly how I know im right. Mascherano was able to light a cigar last year in a champions league semi simply because sides are not able to get at barcelona with quality ball. It makes their defenders looking significantly better than they are. Luiz on the front foot in a team like that would look immense. I have no doubt about that whatsoever. Similarly puyol or pique dropped into the chelsea side would look significantly weaker. Mascherano would look a pub player at center back for utd. |
By:
R0y Mascherano has been Barcelona's best centre half this season, to the point it is now considered his best position.
It shows how little you watch them. |
By:
Chelsea should have been beaten by Napoli they don't deserve to be near the semi finals and they will be duly sent packing by Barca

By:
High lander you appear in a time warp. Everything you've said I've said years ago and agreed with. My point is I don't think they are capable of this 'tight stuffy' performance you speak of. And crucially drogba is not the same player so they've lost the ability to go direct without quality ball.
I guess the hope is they somehow dig out a performance from years ago but I strongly doubt it. They are weaker defensively, slower wide and drogba aint the same. |
