Vile club? I'm guessing your on 'they don't desrve to stay up due to lack of fans' argument even though they are in the catchment area of Utd, City, Liverpool, Everton, Preston, Bolton, Blackpool.

No, i'm not a Wigan fan, but they play decent football and are better than the teams around em for playing football. Guess Wolves should stay up due to 'History' right??

I agree with the Whelan comment, but Wigan have done really well considering they have only been pro since 1978 too. Not bad for a team with a 34 year history, with 7 in the top flight.

Suppose part of my resentment stems from the fact i'm a big St Helens Rugby League fan

But i'd like to see Wigan go to upset Whelan, because of the lack of support he gave to former Wigan coach Mike Gregory when he contracted an illness turned out to be terminal, while he was still in charge of the team

FFT I'm also a Saints fan, and an ex sponsor of them. I knew Mike Greg when he was second team coach but more so cos I played rugby union with him at wigan. Mike was one of the most honest dedicated and knowledgeable people I have ever met. He was an inspiration to a lot of people, me included. Even playing t and p, no matter how **** you were, and I was ****, he'd get the best out of you with a few helpful words. I don't agree with you about Dave Whelan. He isn't as bad as you say. Nobody knew about Greg's terminal illness until it was too late.Not even the doctors. It was a mystery. Mike had already been let go at Wigan, but the one thing he wasn't lacking was support. As for DW, like him or hate him, he has worked wonders with what was a non league club until the '70s. It's a huge shame that the town didn't get behind the club because once they do go down, whether it's this year or not, they won't be coming back. Personally I've loved going to games in Wigan to watch some of the best players on the planet. I am a neutral, but I've wanted them to do well just so that they keep coming here. Maybe somebody will get behind St Helens Town at some point. I believe the guy that created Betfair is a 'Telenser?

i'd like them to, definitely prefer them to QPR and Bolton.

OP - I would be interested in your reasons for thinking Wigan will finish above three of Wolves, QPR, Bolton and Blackburn.

Personally, I think Wigan are certs for relegation.  Don't score enough goals.  Don't win enough at home (just once all season).  Still got to play 4 of the top 6.

Wigan aren't going to get anything from Chelsea, United or Arsenal which means they probably need to win at least 4 of their other 5 games.

Wolves H

It's obviously possible but a big ask.

Daft as it sounds, I think they'll get more points from the bigger games than they will from the "lower" teams. It's still a problem for them but they compete better with top teams. I know that sounds daft, but watch what happens.

Have you seen Wigans record against the top sides? Against those 3 sides their record is

Yes I have.
What I mean is they perform better against the better sides. I think they'll get beaten by Stoke, Fulham, and Newcastle. They might get a point against Blackburn and possibly beat Wolves. Against Chelsea and Arsenal, they MIGHT get a point but United will beat them. If the wheels come off at QPR and one other, who knows what will happen? But I'm not holding my breath.
Although they've never got a point against big red, I have seen them compete more than once with the difference being a split second of brilliance by someone who cost more than the entire Wigan squad.
The word "resignation" is popping up a lot when talking about the Latics. If they don't get above the reli zone in a couple of games they'll be resigned to going down. I just hope they aren't already.

Anyway. Up the blues for tonight.

You get lots of strange results at this time of season. A key factor will be does the opposition have anything to play for.

Bolton's last four games for example are Swansea (h), Sunderland (a), WBA (h), Stoke (a). All four will hopefully have one eye on the beach.

powder you're talking gob**** mate. The reason Wigan are so good at staying up is that they typically take 3 points off their relegation rivals. Their form against good teams is useless.

Perhaps you're thinking of west brom or someone else?

Thank you for that reasoned response. Are Liverpool relegation rivals? I didn't think they were that bad. And when I think of the "big four" LFC are always in that group. Maybe it's a sub-conscious thing. That's the only three points Wigan have picked up recently. They've nicked the odd point here and there but I stand by what I say. In my opinion, Wigan play better against good teams than against the teams in the lower end. Now I don't actually think that's talking gobshit. But then again, I'm no expert. Are you?

An out of form liverpool aren't even in the top 8 right now, and on 2012 form are actually relegation rivals yes.

Mind you judging by my bets tonight I would say that I was full of **** too!! Absolute disaster. If it was any more wrong it would have been on the f**king news tonight.
