Peter Shilton Penalty Saves

Funny you say that . I always thought he was a better keeper than clemence but was a **** penalty saver.

1990 World Cup Final should have ****ed Shilton off and put Beasant in goal! He would have saved some penalties

It was painful watching him against the German Pens in 1990

Paul Cooper (Ipswich) was the penalty master of Shilton's  Era

He prob dived the right way for every penalty in that final. Five mins after the net bulged

Looking it up , Cooper saved 8/10 Pens in 1979/80

Didnt Gary Bailey save 3 penalties for United against Ipswich but still let in 8 in one game?

Shilton said in an interview that he had a technique where he watched the angle of the takers hip or something and he could tell where it was going to go as he kicked it. Obviously that was too late as he was never that agile and while he dived the right way, he never stood a chance unless the penalty was centre or marginally off centre.

Shilton was useless. But he was still better than Clemence. The amount of games the latter cost Tottenham is terrifying.

Beasant saved one famously in the 88 cup final so couldnt have done much worse than Shilts

I remember seeing an interview with another player from the 1990 squad who said that Shilton had had a conversation with him, during which Shilton had said that in a penalty shoot-out he was going to wait to see which way the ball was kicked before moving. That was his strategy against Germany.

He roomed with lineker I believe it was he who has said that. Tbf although shilts only made token efforts at making those penalty saves, they were all near perfect in the corner penaltys, the strategy didn't work but had one or two just blasted it down the middle then maybe it would have. don't think he could have done a lot more or beasant for that matter.

We Nottingham Forest would not have gone 42 league games ubdeafed and have a league championship and two eurepeen cups without him, was player of season the year we won the league. Was past it and playing for derby by the time of the 1990 world cup,
My two best mates ended up having a fight on the way home from the pub that night one a forest fan blaming shilts the other a derby fan blaming physco, we still lol about it now 

He saved 1 penalty in his 125 England appearances from Andy Brehme in a win against West Germany.

1977/78 forest conceded 24 goals in 42 games shilts didn't sign until after the first 3 when john Middleton prob let in a few, shilts prob conceded about 18 in 39 thus why he got Pfa player of he year.

Vastly overrated keeper and next to useless whenever facing a spot kick. He was utterly dreadful at trying to save one, cannot remember a miss v him!
