T*ottenham are mentally broken there's no doubt. The players all know the manager want's out, they've run out of steam but they gave it a good run, but when the big teams come calling, it's a bit too much. maybe being 3rd got to their heads.

However i thought they had real momentum going into the Arsenal game, everyone seeing them as the much better team, and the expectation was that an  Arsenal win was unlikely and would be hard fought if it happened at all.

I didn't see the United game but i do not think they played at all well today .Everton were quite comfortable apart from Saha at the end.

There have been particulary important matches in the past where teams have been playing superbly, seemingly with every reason to get better still, and then played suprisingly badly at the crucial moment, and never picked up again.

Liverpool looked sensational last few months of 1995/96, had a young team with their best years ahead , then played United in The Cup Final which was seen as an oppurtunity to show they were on the same level . Awful performance, and just never looked the same again .

Then Arsenal going for the 50th unbeaten league game in 2004 ......

tobermory, tbh the result that has really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons was arsenal stealing that win at anfield. you gained about 4 points on chelsea and 3 on spurs last weekend.

i only had us down for 2 points from these 3 games we've lost. as was always likely it will come down to the very winnable run in spurs have.

Knight Rider, I have every confidence we will not only finish above spurs but we'll do so by at least 7 points, I don't do season long bets - my money right now is tied up in Indian Wells.

You don't have to do the full 3k Mesmerised, just do what you can afford.  If you refuse to have any sort of a bet, after saying you think Arsenal will finish 7pts higher, obviously you have lost all credibility.

Knight Rider - think about what you just said and read this - 2 weeks ago you were 10 points ahead - by monday you'll be 1 point ahead, with 10 games to go, and spurs under pressure, it's hardly inconceivable we'll finish above by 7 points, you have no experience in finishing so high, they must be feeling abit dizzy down at the Lane.

There are no money issues here - I don't do season long bets, simple as.

I still think spurs finish 3rd and arsenal and Chelsea fight it out for 4th. I do feel though that the gap closing has shown that if we hadn't had all 4 full backs out for half the season we'd be well ahead

I agree it will be close Maf.  Spurs are favs imo, with extra points on the board and some tough fixtures out the way, but not huge favs.  Was always likely that one of Arse/Chels/Liv was gonna close the gap on Spurs, although 6 weeks ago the Goons looked the least likely of the three and I'm sure their own fans would admit that as well.

Main objective for Spurs is the top 4 and that still looks very likely.

we've won the league at WHL twice - as many times as they have

Sometimes you play bad and win.

Others you play good and lose.

Spurs were fortunate in a few games before xmas ( Fulham away springs to mind ) but they won and thats all that seemed to matter.

In recent games against Man utd and Everton they've done enough to get a point but the rub of the green hasnt been with them.

The time to panic for Spurs would be if they draw with Stoke at home then lose to Chelsea.

Don't think we'll get 6, but I'm confident we'll beat Stoke. 4 points would do nicely, leaving us with:

Home games:
Swansea, Norwich, Blackburn, Fulham.


Away games:
Sunderland, Bolton, QPR, Villa.

Away games at Villa and sunderland arent easy Mav mate.

And games against teams battling for relegation are'nt either.

Ideally you want games against the mid table sides who have nothing to play for.

I'd rather play a Norwich or a Swansea than a Blackburn or a QPR.

In previous seasons you've had a couple of shockers at home at lost to the likes of Hull, Wigan and Stoke.

You absolutely cant lose at home to a team in the bottom half and to be fair bar the 2 Manchester teams you've been impressive at home.

We have a big game on Monday. Yes we are in our best form of the season but its not a forgone conclusion we win. Knowing us it'll be a horrid 1-1 draw!

i'd have villa away as one of the easiest away games in the division especially as we're playing them 2nd last game and they will have nothing on it at all and you couldn't ask for a friendlier last 4 homes . we need shooting if we don't win at least 3 of them.

I hope so! I have a decent bet on Arsenal finishing in the top 4, I got 5 early in the season when we had that really bad run. Also have a decent bet on Spurs to not finish top 4, layed them at very short odds 1.2 ish. I reckon Arsenal are definitely going to finish 3rd and Chelsea look good for 4th, now they've got rid of their manager they'll probably go on a winning streak.

You don't become a bad side overnight, Chelsea will improve and could even go the rest of the season unbeaten. They have Man City and then your lot, crucial games all round. My money's on Chelsea.

That remains to be seen, they were long odds on favourites and runaway leaders of the league at one point last year, this exact team finished miles above Arsenal and Spurs. I highly doubt their key players have degenerated as badly as you say. They have even added some quality in the shape of Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge. They didn't get on well with the manager, these things happen, but you shouldn't confuse that with loss of ability.

high lander, high lander, high lanader, listen, I never said they never had the same ability, class is permanent and all that, I was insinuating that the ability that those core players do have cannot be used in games as effectively as it used to be, injuries and age takes it toll at some point, Drogba and Lampard are different animals now to what they were 3-4 season, agreed though Mata and Sturridge are two shrewd buys, Mata is an Arsenal type.

I disagree, I think their bad season was down to the manager not the ability of the players or the team as a whole. Now the problem has gone I expect Chelsea to revert back to winning ways.

tottenham are a complete dissapointment, i thought there was going to be some substance behind the form, everyone saying they play the best football in the league and now they cant buy a win. newcastle who were in the championship 2 seasons ago have taken there place in the league and all the plaudits they were receiving, fair play to newcastle there playing some great stuff, i dont believe that they will keep it up as much as i thought tottenham would but what do i know, i thought tottenham could get close to the top!! newcastle for 3rd!!

ahhh yeah it wasnt the most predictable, i see earlier people werent even talking about newcastle they were including liverpool in there as challengers    but newcastle are doing what spurs were doing earlier in the season and exactly the opposite to what spurs are doing now, beating the teams that are below them and not quite as good, which is exactly what you need to do, you can only beat what is infront of you on the day. i thought spurs would be able to continue to do so, theyve got the players, could turn out to be quite embarrasing doing it this way round (ending with the bad run of form).

Wolves. I started a thread on the weekend before
that match suggesting it was time to oppose Spurs
and since then they have won 3 from 14. I also said
they would probably finish around 6th and was laughed
off the forum. Very sad.

To me these prices are still all wrong,Tottenham have run their race I think they should be the outsiders,Newcastle have the hardest run in inc.Chelsea away and Chelsea have three home games and a potential gimmee at Anfield .

The winner of Chelsea v Newcastle is in Europe imo possibly in 3rd place.
