But fine in premiership terms when the rest of the cowboy league is in just as much of a downward spiral.

Yes. Many times. I don't really like calling it luck. That's for idiot punters, mentioning no names. It's variance.
Quick list:
Perfectly good goal disallowed against Porto
Easily the better team against Bayern and coasting through at 3-0.
Woodwork twice against Dortmund and a deflected goal against.
Unbeaten apart from a dead rubber in 98.

And as you say - lucky moments in the 2 they won.

It's called conditional probability (Bayes Theorum) - on a betting site, you should read up on it.
Report mesmerised March 9, 2012 10:08 PM GMT
Thanks for your advice.

Back to reality, you've been knocked out of 15 champions league tournaments under fergie, don't blame all that on bad luck.

Listen I support Arsenal, - we've been knocked out of 14 in a row - the final was hard to take, having the keeper sent off after 10 minutes, with the ref later admitten that was a mistake - than having to haul of Pires, conceding two late offside goals in the lat 11 minutes when 1 nil up, sods law - but we've had 14 attempts and failed 14 times.

The point is - fergie is simply not the great manager you make him out to be - he's never dominated Europe in any way.

More money to be made winning the Premiership. Simple case of economics.

SAF in match interviews has been full of praise for Bilbao's determination/fitness/playing style.

Bilbao will play Barcelona in the Spanish cup final. Should be a cracker. Hope they win as they deserve it.

If any 'big' team is in decline then look at Liverpool and their army of has-been glory hunters...

... I'll give Liverpool one thing... year on year they are consistently sh!te... and that's a NAP Cool...

... there's plenty of Betfair markets where people can profit from Liverpool's decline too... one has only to look.

Money is a problem for Man U, but they seem good enough to win the Prem, so they can't have fallen that far.  The Spanish league does now seem a notch up in terms of quality, although the Prem's still pretty good compared to other leagues - ultimately there was very little between Arsenal and Chelski and their Italian opponents.

In any case, the OP honestly believes Arsenal would have won the Prem if they'd had one or two more players back from injury, which rather casts doubt over his brain...

BONANZA ... Man Utd owner Glazer
Glazers in Utd cash shock
By DAVID FACEY
Published: 19 hrs ago

A SHOCK report shows the mind-boggling extent the Glazer family have profiteered as owners of Manchester United.
Documents disclosed by US financial watchdog SEC show owner Malcolm Glazer kept more than half of the £140million generated by their shares issue in the States.
They also revealed how Glazer repaid £10m he borrowed from the club by taking the same amount from the Red Devils’ coffers as a “dividend payment”.
No fewer than six other members of the Glazer family have strong financial links with United and, between them, they were paid more than £16m in “consultancy fees” over two years.
Those revelations were contained in correspondence between United and the SEC — and published by Bloomberg.
The SEC felt the club were pulling the wool over their eyes by not making full disclosures.
They took exception to a claim in United’s shares proposal to would-be investors that the club’s broadcasting and match revenue were “growing consistently”.
SEC officials discovered they would have lost money had it not been for the £80m sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and a one-off tax credit.
One SEC report declared: “United would have lost money in two of the last three years but for the sale of a player.”
The revelations sparked an outcry among fans, led by Duncan Drasdo, who heads the Manchester United Supporters Trust.
He said: “The Glazer names are still toxic among hardcore fans.”
Manchester-born Michael Burawoy, now a sociology professor at the University of California, believes the figures the Glazers were forced to disclose shows how precarious the club’s position is.
He said: “They’ve turned United into a debt machine. When their on-field success ends, it’ll be an economic disaster.”
Club director of communications Phil Townsend said: “As with every SEC filer, we went through several rounds of comments. Our interaction with them was positive. We look forward to many years as a US public company.”
Latest figures show the club are still just under £360m in the red.

Feck the Glazer's, the sooner we get these parasites out of our club the better. We have known about that article and a lot worse for years but how can we force them out? The hardcore are more than happy to boycott home matches, many already do. Most hardcore fans won't buy anything that brings a profit to the Yanks. But there are thousands who are only too happy to continue and I am not talking about tourists.

These are proper fans and they rightly say they cannot bear the thought of United struggling on or off the field. Until they "toe the line" the Glazer's won't care.

Personally I would put up with us being a mid division club for a few years if it meant we could regain control of the club. All the FC lads would come back and in the long run we would be even stronger. It will happen, just a case of time.
