Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has hotel named after him in Indonesia

The Stevie G Hotel in the town of Bandung boasts 24 individually designed 24 rooms, with such intriguing names as Wooden Vibrancy, Alice is Lost, the Deer Hunter, What is Pop Art, and - of particular interest to Reds fans - the Anfield Room.

It features large portraits of such club legends as Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush Kenny Dalglish and of course Gerrard, and details of great moments in the club's history.

Its Facebook page says: 'Our hotel offer you the striking blend of architecture and natural surroundings, with the state of the art facilities presented here.

It's a disgrace!!

Saint Steven was everyones (well, the media's) choice and now they're going to thkweam and thkweam and thkweam because their boy didn't get to toss the coin and exchange pennants.

.....and yes Ryan Babel is right "we are talkin about Steve G here" - though I suspect many of us are talking about him through the prism of him and Lampard swanning about in each others footsteps, doing the square root of bu*g*r all in England's midfield for the past decade, rather than the red-tinted spectacles we're all apperntly supposed to wear.

Parker is not an international player and never was. He is not fit to captain his country. Don't get me wrong he comes across as a decent bloke but a footballer he aint.
Bet he was the last to be picked for football teams at break-time at School, he certainly plays as though he was. He runs around a lot and when someone passes to him he immediately passes back to them. No doubt he got his head flushed down the bog after the game while the manager wasn't looking.
Report BARNEY21. • March 1, 2012 7:03 PM GMT
Parker looked as if he had done a stint training with the marines down in deepest Devon he is an honest to goodness player almost totally devoid of anything of a footballing nature but Barry/Milner/Lamps much the same, internationally England are paying the price of the glut of foreign players dominating the English scene.
Report MadVlad • March 1, 2012 7:03 PM GMT
Scott Parker was/is excellant sadly he does the work that is never appreciated, breaking up attacks and tidying up in defence a trait that is essential in every sucessful football team.
Will he be appreciated by the average uneducated English fan,of course not. Will he be appreciated by his fellow players, you bet your life he will.

I know he does not do the fancy dan stuff, but if you had 11 players like that you would win feck all, here endeth the lesson.
Report MadVlad • March 1, 2012 7:05 PM GMT
* rather ironic that your next manager rates him as the buy of the season, think on those that want to knock him.

Report Mike Bassett England Manager • March 1, 2012 7:27 PM GMT
Apparently he waved goodbye to the fans as he left the pitch so this could have been his last match for his country. I didn't even realise he was playing as his performance was so poor last night. He never really excelled for England like he used to for Liverpool.
Best to go out on a high and give the new manager a free reign unencumbered by yesterdays men.

Report homefortea • March 1, 2012 8:27 PM GMT
Why should I think about it.He is an average Premiership footballer. An England Captain, I think not and as for Spurs they have been talked up for years.Just like West Ham were in the sixties. And what did they win ?
Report charwell. • March 2, 2012 1:11 AM GMT
Please explain how Parker was 'an excellent captain' Spuds fan Paulcarm. He led a team to a home defeat on English soil and played poorly in a midfield dominated by 2 workhorses in Van Bommel & De Jong.

He has won nothing and achieved nothing in the game. In his 30's and barely reached double figures for his country in caps. Does not smack me as international captain material!!

gerrard was Englands best player in South Africa, pity those around him looked as though they had never seen a football before (Rooney in particular!). Gerrard has lead an average side to CL glory, FA cups & league cups & cup winners cup. Parker led West Ham to relegation.

But one is a c0ckney with an affable manner and a sidepart and the other is a northern monkey. Pearce is completely out his depth in any form of management.
Report duffyg • March 2, 2012 1:16 AM GMT
think parker will be a liability in the euros, surrounded by pace at spurs but will get isolated for england
Report flatliner • March 2, 2012 3:17 AM GMT
Why is Gerrard in the England side?
Report the dza • March 2, 2012 4:59 PM GMT
Imo, the captain thing is a lot of fuss about nothing.

But, since people will make an issue of it, then it has to go to a player who is almost guaranteed to start. That rules out both Parker (ability) and Gerrard (fitness) imo.

Hart and Rooney are the only two who are way out infront of anything we have in their respective positions, and they tend to be fit (when compared to the likes of Gerrard).

Give it to Joe Hart, and then we can shut the f**k up about it.
Report the dza • March 2, 2012 5:19 PM GMT
And assuming Wilshere will be unfit for the Euros, get Scholes out of retirement sharpish! Need a couple of players who can pass!

----------Hart
Richards--Jones--Lescott--Baines
-------Carrick---Scholes
--Sturridge--Rooney---Young
----------Wellbeck

Maybve Gerrard in for Rooney whilst he is suspended. Still a fairly sh1te team, granted.

2nd XI:

------------Ruddy
Johnson--Smalling--Cahill--Gibbs
---------Parker--Milner
--Johnson---Gerrard---Lennon
------------Defoe

Again, fairly sh1te. Just pull out of the tournament, save us all the hassle.
Report BARNEY21. • March 2, 2012 5:26 PM GMT
MadVlad you are correct about Scotty but not in a set up with 4/5 other work horses he needs to have some flair players around him as in the ones at Spurs eventually it is the creative/flair players that win you most games England do not have enough of these at the moment, the Dutch were I thought average but they have 2/3 real quality but do not see them acheiving anything,I watched their under21s against Scotlands the other night technically they were ahead passing and moving the ball around they were bigger stronger and quicker than us but Scotland had 3/4 players that could do what they couldn,t go past/beat a man and had good individual skill the Dutch were very stereotype and to me this is Englands biggest problem.
Report clarkey • March 2, 2012 6:18 PM GMT
I like Parker and he's a very decent holding midfielder......and given the fact he's adored by the London sporting media well that just ensured he was always going to be the next captain.

If i was Gerrard i'd pack England in now because the current England team is going to be a proper train crash at the Euro's.I can see them not winning a game and i wonder what the press will blame now there's an Englishman in charge?

I reckon it'll be something like "too many bloody foreigners in the league"Laugh
Report Pootle • March 2, 2012 10:45 PM GMT
neither parker or gerrard should be anywhere near the england team anyway
but if they are to be, the gerrard is by far the better choice of captain
he should retire from international football failure though and prolong his liverpool career, he's not finished like terry or lampard or ferdinand, but playing for england does him no good
Parker is just an average player loved by the media
