if a club like Rangers...with only one other serious competitor in its "market" cannot pay its way then somewhere along the line there must have been financial mismanagement on a biblical scale.!!!!

Sad day for football, north of the border - it now becomes a one team league.....Obviously,as winners of a European Cup,Celtic will always be more world renowned than Rangers but they`ve done their own bit for football up there....Who the hell was running this club?!?!?!
Report helmutschon February 13, 2012 4:58 PM GMT
What about the quadruple when the murdoch press are tossed in too. The only unfortunate thing about this whole sorry episode is that Sir David Murray evades the gallows, just like the Captain of the Costa Concordia he abandoned ship before it sank.
He is solely responsible for this...when he said "When Celtic spend a fiver we'll spend a tenner" except that every single one of those tenners will be tax-free and now the chickens are comin home to roost. We will never know how many league titles would have been surrendered if he had played on the right side of the law, and maybe the historic 9-in-a-row would never have materialized. After all the majority of them were won with players like Gazza, Laudrup ,Butcher and er Flo.

when they won the league for the 50th time ... I have never bought a single item from Rangers since they started the stars, any stars on any team shirt is ridiculous IMO !!! hate them

It`s a crying shame that it`s got that way because of fans like you,Schalke......The earlier poster correct in saying that this Murray guy must shoulder a lot of the blame?

I'm a Schalke 04 fan, and have been for the last 14 years ... My days of going to Rangers games are gone, Rangers are a joke with the way it's been run, the merchandise is terrible, lots of the fans are a nightmare, Scottish Football is terrible ... scottish football drove me out, not the other way about

Rebirth of Scottish Football / its no coincidence the national team has been cr@p since Sir Murray
flooded the game with average foreign players ...the odd decent one/ our game suffered
Report Schalke 04 February 13, 2012 5:20 PM GMT
Yup, Rangers should have scottish players, so should most of the teams ... I will never go back to Ibrox until they start being a football club again and get rid of those ridiculous 5 stars

Celtic now 1/25 to win the league
Report helmutschon February 13, 2012 5:28 PM GMT
As far as i'm aware the star thing indicates ten league titles for each star. But to say that that has been the most insidious thing happening at ibrox for decades is to skirt many issues i.e. the sectarian chanting, the links with the BNP, THE DODGY FINANCIAL SITUATION and the discomforting cosy relationship they've had with the Scottish sports writers for . Stars on a shirt...come on.
Report Schalke 04 February 13, 2012 5:33 PM GMT
Everything has made me desert Rangers, but the stars on the shirts made me stop buying things from them, I hate it and it looks terrible ...

Not to mention their refusal to allow players who were Roman Catholic to play for them!!! Good God,if that had been allowed to continue imagine,in the current racist situation, there`d be calls for them to be disbanded!

All i know for certain in this murky affair is that Sir David Murray should be called to account for his actions.
How can it be lawful for a man to run an institution into the ground then when there is nothing but debt left sell the liabilities for a pound and not be subject to accountability.
Also the so-called free press have enacted an omerta as far as these revelations are concerned and to conclude if you want to know the latest news and updates on this case the red tops in Scotland will not be forthcoming.rangerstaxcase.com will.

dead right doc.

they both need each other, and scottish football need them both to be reasonably healthy or their league will be a bigger farce than it is now.

but i'm sure if you ask any celtic fan the'yd tell you how dekighted they'd be to go to an old firm clash and have a mock whip round for the opposition.

Maybe this is all part of the plan! Celtic now 1.04 to win the league because of Rangers impending points deduction. Maybe all Rangers staff, players and fans will lay the crap out of Celtic at that price and then announce they are not really going into administration. When the odds go back up they green out and have loads of money to spend on players! Just a thought...........................

No way will SKY renew the SPL deal, without those 4 games being meaningful. My club Crawley Town would finish 2nd to Celtic.
Report Platini February 13, 2012 6:47 PM GMT
No sympathy for them whatsoever. They bought titles for over a decade with borrowed money they couldn't pay back, and now it's all coming home to roost. Going into Administration, 10 points deduction, etc is meaningless. Stripping them of the bought titles is the only fair course of action.

Brilliant news, now hopefully the other cheek will see their crowds dwindle, their budgets cut and Scottish footbal become a bit more competitive and a bit less full of 'Scots' who are obsessed with English/Irish history. Rangers and Celtic - 2 cheeks of the same @rse.
Report D'oh! February 13, 2012 7:39 PM GMT
All this nonsense about Celtic needing Rangers - be serious.

Rangers have experienced lean times in the past when they struggled to come third in Scotland's top flight, as did Celtic for\much of the 90's. The league did not collapse.

Nature abhors a vacuum and if Rangers do disappear (please God), another club will step up to become the next dominant force. Remember Aberdeen under Alex Ferguson?

Had the same thought ... but unlikely to clear the HMRC debt through this route ;-)

Just for accuracy, for anyone considering punting on the SPL market, Rangers are not YET in Administration and have not YET been deducted 10 points.

Sometime within the next 10 days yes, but not yet.
