Saturday 11th February sees 8th place Sunderland host 6th place Arsenal at the stadium of light. The remarkable job Martin O’Neill is doing at Sunderland continued in the week as he guided his side into the 6th round of the FA Cup. Sunderland have lost just one of their last 11 games in all competitions, and have lost just 2 in 13 in under Martin O’Neill.

This has seen Sunderland top the Premier League form table with 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 lose in their last 8 games whereas Arsenal have 3 wins, 2 draws and 3 loses. Sunderland’s home record stands at 5 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses, but they have just one loss in their last 10 home league games. Arsenal’s away record stands at 4 wins, 2 draws and 6 losses, and they are without a win in their last 3 away games.

Taking all this in to account I think the 1.87 available for Sunderland on the asian handicap at + 0.5 with Betfair seems very generous. So if Sunderland win or draw it’s a winning bet.

Team News:

Sunderland:

Loan signings Wayne Bridge and Sotirios Kyrgiakos return to the Sunderland squad.
The former England full-back and the Greece central defender were ineligible for Wednesday's FA Cup fourth-round replay victory at Middlesbrough having not arrived on Wearside in time to be registered, although striker Nicklas Bendtner cannot play against his parent club under the terms of his loan agreement.
Defender Matt Kilgallon has returned to training after an ankle injury, but he is short of match fitness after five games on the sidelines, while Lee Cattermole (hamstring), David Vaughan (ankle), Wes Brown (knee) and Titus Bramble (Achilles/calf) are still out.

Possible Lineups:

                   Mignolet,
Bardsley, O'Shea, Turner, Richardson,
Larsson, Gardner, Colback, McClean,
             Campbell, Sessègnon

Arsenal:

Arsenal could have defender Kieran Gibbs back in the squad after his recovery from groin problems.

Striker Marouane Chamakh has returned from the African Nations Cup, but Gervinho remains away as Ivory Coast prepare for the final.

Defenders Carl Jenkinson (back) and Andre Santos (ankle) are still out, along with midfielders Abou Diaby (hamstring) and Jack Wilshere (ankle). Emmanuel Frimpong has returned from his loan spell at Wolves, but will be out for the rest of the season after needing surgery on his knee.

Possible Lineups:

                          Szczesny,
  Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Verm'len,
Walcott, Song, Arteta; Ramsey, Chamberlain,
                         Van Persie

Last 6 games (league):

Sunderland:        WWWLWW

Arsenal:        WDLLLW

Prediction: Sunderland 2 – 1 Arsenal

My Pick: Sunderland Win or Draw at 1.87 (13/15)

Outside Bet: Jack Colback to score first at 41 (40/1)

If Gibbs is back, that's Arsenal first choice defence available for the first time in month, which should make them odds on.

Arsenal need to take a lesson out of Sunderlands book and inject some pace been very impressed with them since the irish one took over, have to agree about 1.87 being some value would make Arsenal around 7-4 for this and arsenals away form against anything less than trees has been poor.the next six games will decide if they have any chance of making the top four.
ps the players may well be looking at the Milan game on Wednesday night and that cant help.
pps Gibbs is mediocre and will need time to develop.

Gibbs is far from mediocre, he'd hardly be the clubs first choice left back if that was the case.

People are massively underestimating what a difference it makes to a side to have all of your defenders playing in their correct positions.

If that is the case, Arsenal win very comfortably imo.

ive watched him since he was 16 he is not a left back and drifts towards the CH all the time
Santos will be 1st choice when he loses 10 kilos and is fit Gibbs will need to improve to be at the club if they harbour any ambitions of being a regualr cl club again unless he improves as i said a few times. The only good thing about him playing is they get the tank/hummer out of the middle and get Vermalen back in there.what wenger was thinking about ill never know you can hardly play a high line with him in the team.as for odds on you must be joking this Sunderland team are flying watched the last 4 league games and have been a real money spinner for me.

Like I said if Gibbs is fit I'd certainly have them odds on, will probably have a nibble on unquoted also.

Who have Sunderland beaten for christ sake? Nobody anywhere near as good as Arsenal, they were lucky to get past Middlesborough in extra time in midweek.

maggotno1, like I say, it will be the first time in months Arsenal have had a first choice defence all playing in their rightful positions.

Only a fool would underestimate how critical that is to ANY side.

Sunderland were very unlucky against Chavs beat Stoke away qpr away wigan away and have played with great pace and commitment they could easily finish top 8 if the irish one can keep em going
later on in the season this is the wrong game for arsenal at the wrong time.2.12 is too short
odds on if Gibbs play dont make me laugh ps go to bed im sure you have work in the morning.

A single result against Man City well over a month ago...that doesn't mean that Arsenal shouldnt be odds on against them.

wins: chelsea, norwich, villa, wigan.

draws: newcastle, bolton.

losses: man city, man utd, spurs, swansea, fulham, blackburn.

overall away record (league): P12 W4 D2 L6 -- 11th place in the 'away' table.

last 8 league games, form:

Sunderland: P8 W6 D1 L1 -- top of the form table, last 8 games.
