your lucky to get any payment, your lucky if they are not out of buisness in a few monthsGrin

don't usually like joining these bookie bashing threads but i have to agree here when it comes to the magic sign.

when i 1st signed up to lads they kept taking my bets no problem for a good while. it was only when i had a few quid in my accound that they froze said account for "security reasons" and demanded various forms of id etc. despicable practice imo.

if you can't win, you can't lose (even if you are underage)

Yea some are unbelievable, the worst i dealt with was Unibet who kept me waiting just over 2 weeks! Kept saying the pictures I sent in werent clear enough etc, bit of a joke really! But the bookmakers always make the money available to bet with, while they sort the withdrawal issues. Obviously people will lose patience and just bet it away and more than likely close the account. If the bookmakers made withdrawals easier right from the start, then Im sure they would take more money in the long run from punters!

haha strikeitrich, yea I try to avoid the bookies which arent the high street names but then they offer tempting odds! 12bet shouldnt be too bad, they sponsor a couple of footie teams, cant recall who of the top of my head though Laugh

in all fairness to 345 they have always been good with me and they are rated v highly on the american sports sites as good for withdrawing (if too quick to cut winning accounts) compared to many other uk/euro books

identical to what happened to me, froze my account, and asked for identification, once i started winning couple of hundred few consecutive times. they gave some ridiculous reasoning, which i knew didnt really sound legit and full of bs

It's better to just use Betfair if you can. Bookies don't want you to win.

Report Avocado October 1, 2010 12:33 AM BST
Betfair want you to win but then they'll steal money off you if you've been paying less than 20 percent commission on your profits. Best just to give up betting i think.

to be honest this was back in 2003 when they started putting the bite in. i had had the account since my 18th birthday and was using a solo card
which is available to under 18s.. the thing is they should have quearied my age 3 years previous upon openinh account with solo card, but they waited till i had a modest amount in there some years later.

i doubt the same practice would occur post gambling commission era from such a big firm to be honest. but i've had absolutely zero trouble with the firm since (restricting my accounts to pennies aside).

To be fair chaps they are not as bad as you think (bookies) I have worked in Security/Trader etc for some big bookies, not laddies however, but most bookies use standard software and I have used the same software which Laddies operate with but at another bookie. The reason it lets you deposit but not withdraw is the software mainly. It's built into it to address check your address enterd against you cards address automatically when you sign up for a bookie to make sure they match, now computers are not perfect but the people entering info are not either. If you enter your postcode all joined up, example NW67TH instead of NW6 7TH it fails you etc and so on, so to save you inconvenice of having to ring up the bookmaker by locking your account there and then the bookie lets you bet on the basis of they trust it is just a mistake you have enterd in the address or a old address etc, this is the case 99.99% of the time for a fail, obviously then you can bet on a the event you want which might just be about to start (Grand National, FA  CUP final etc etc). When you eventually come to withdraw they do a manual check on the address with either ID provided by you or other ways. Obviously if everything is ok you then have the block removed and receive your money,or if someone who was a criminal was trying to use someone elses card then it would be no use anyway because they won't be removing any of the money to another account etc from the system due to the block, so it wipesout fraud too from that aspect.

Getting back to the subject though, if you can win in betting, betting exchanges are the only place it's going to happen. Win at a bookies and you will not be winning for long.

UKMALLIA, when you worked at bookies were the ROULETTE MACHINE around, or was it before them times?

i have a question, actually two about the roulette machines

ukmalllia.

this was back in 2003. i'd been depositing, withdrawing under the same debit card for years. it wasn't till i had a decent balance that my account was frozen on the same night. there was no problem in the end, but i can't help thinking that they saw my balance, saw i was using a solo card (available to 16 yr olds) and thought they would try their luck.

like i said, wouldnt happen in this day and age with the nanny state gambling commission. these days i guess the use of a solo card (are they even still in use???) would have been queried before the 1st bet was struck.
Report Ukmalllia October 1, 2010 1:08 AM BST
Didcot, yeah I think Solo or Visa Electron automatically lock accounts these days straight away unless they have software to check the electoral roll for your info, which some bookies do I believe.

When it comes to a bookmaker and restricting bets it's a interesting subject to discuss.

For me I can 100% see why a bookie limits a winning punter. These bookies these days are PLC's and are out to make the most profit they can for the shareholders or owners and you can only do that by getting rid of costs/liabiltys as in most profitable businesses. Sadly in sports betting that will be a winning punter (sad for the winning punter at least). No one wants to give money away.

The real profit, or at least it was for bookies was in the fixed odds betting terminals. They are growing the Internet Sports betting/ Bingo/ Casino/Poker operations as they see them as the future too, but Fixed odds betting terminals for now are were the real money is. Most shops would be closed these days without the invention of FOBT'S. 3 of these in a shop is the only reason 90% of them stay open, the sports/horse betting is just a side revenue these days in comparrison, I used to see screens with a rolling income of the whole country for FOBT's and they figure/ profit for the day was going up like you would not believe, if you have ever seen the Iraq war cost counter for the US, (google it), it was like that Laugh

However, I do think that in a local area you have a limited amount of money/credit your regular punter can lose on these machines before they can literally not afford too anymore, my guess would be on average people can get £10,000 - £15,000 in credit were most bookies are (poor areas), problem is, once they blow that money you lose the income from that person, now you only have so many people to replace him before the game is up for them too and then they have to pay back the debt which means you lose the customer income and even if they default they lose credit facilites for 5 years.

So that could be the only downfall IMO. Profits may rise still for a good 10 years but then head downwards for a while.

My closing line should have been, and that is why you stick to betting exchanges. Laugh

disagree. haven't worked in the shops for years now but the big players on these machines always used to be undesirable types who certainly hadn't done an honest day's work in years. ie people washing money. especially down south, half of these **** couldn't even speak english ffs so it didn't take a genius to work out where this endless supply of hard currency came from. bookie takes his 2.7% cut, punter can now explain where he got his money, there's no conclusive record as it's all cash transactions with no handwritting, EVERYONES A WINNER! i'm purely speculating of course. just my opinion.
