Good football brain though. He was hailed as a genius in his younger years.

i was fan of JOE COLE, 4,5 yrs ago. He had some style with his football, had good control, very obvious mechanical type of step overs, but he could make things happen every now and again in a game.

now though £90k/week, for a player that is possibly only 40-50% of what he used to be, could be expesive deal for Liverpool and alot of money to give the player a week

At the end of the day he is a reject of Chelsea, and the manager of ENGLAND didnt even give him a game, only gave him a cameo in the end just because of media pressure
Report strikeitrich2 August 5, 2010 10:09 PM BST
sorry my main point was

SMART ONE? answer yes smart for grabbing that £90k/week, which he probably only wouldve got paid half of that realistically at another club

JOe Cole was an outstanding natural talent until he got the ability trained out of him. English footballers play percentage football. Its all down to cnts adopting prozone and stats based assessments. Alladyce has taken this approach to its nadir and its killing us.

The manager of England is a mug. Cole's a good player. Chelsea would have got rid of him much sooner if he wasn't.

you got a point there. Joe cole a rare bitish naturally skillfull smart footaller, he wouldve been great in SPANISH LA LIGA. they dont play as much robotic, percentage football as you said.

underround , thats what i like JOE COLE before , he used to be exciting unless 99% of the English player, he had latin like football ability
Report Avocado August 5, 2010 10:19 PM BST
Cole is the English Messi. Walcott can be too.

As a GOONER i always had massive expectations about THEO when we first signed him. He was meant to some speical player. You seem glimpses of his magic, he has blazing pace, some nifty dribbling, but unfortunately he has little composure on the ball, and he doesnt use his brain enough. He gets in good positions but lets himself down with the final ball, or goes in to a brick wall and loses the ball cheaply.

he needs to have more composure ,and he need to sometimes slow his game down , think what he is gonna do before he actually makes a move/run at the opponent. Then i think he can be top top player
Report Avocado August 5, 2010 10:24 PM BST
Yeah. Fantastic pace though.
Report Mick McCarthy For Pope August 5, 2010 10:25 PM BST
Joe Cole is absolutely class and always has been. He struggled last season with fitness and with Ancelotti not fancying him and people have very quickly written him off. Those same people writing him off will be the first on here in October or whenever when he's playing outstandingly for Liverpool claiming they've always said he was a good player. Always happens.

Mick McCarthy

i foudn that very puzzling. the thing about ANCELLOTI really not liking JOE COLEs services at all. i mean how can that be. He was so much better in terms of ability than many of the CHELSEA players. He was a player that made a difference in tight games, one moment of skill to set up a chance for a goal scorer or one piece of skill to open of the defense.

why would you get rid of a player like him? can you make any sense of this?

Most bright players fade because of the over management talked about, when youngsters start to come through they are given a lot of freedom to run about and do what they do best, as time goes on and they become a regular within the team they get less a chance to be the individual player which they are and have to be more of a team player. Most players get noticed at a young age for being incredibly greedy but very skillful too, we all remember being at school and playing with one kid who could turn the whole team inside out but normally everyone was fustrated by a lack of passing. Few young players would get scouted for being a great team player. Ideally every team should have some unknown quantity to run riot and do would they do best.

lol , just noticed your full username, Mick McCarthy for pope

lmao, what is all that about? why do u want him to be the POPE?
Report soccertrader August 5, 2010 10:32 PM BST
Not the player he once could have been but 90k a week, playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world....cant be that stupid can he?
Report scoobykid August 5, 2010 10:33 PM BST
Ive said this before but I think walcott looks like a kid given a couple of quid by his mum to get some sweets, he sprints to the shop then gets there and is dazzled by the choice on offer and before he knows it he has been pick pocketed by some older kid. I think Walcott is the most overated player in the english game at the moment.
Report Mick McCarthy For Pope August 5, 2010 10:33 PM BST
Mick McCarthy has special, God-like powers, strikeitrich. He is the chosen one. In my eyes he is theperfect candidate for the next Pope and I think we'll get a good price on him getting the job.
Report Avocado August 5, 2010 10:40 PM BST
Chelsea don't need him. They have a squad full of good players and have money to buy more. At a club like like Liverpool he could flourish because he will be given the prestige that he deserves. We could see him back in the England starting line up too if he starts the season well.

absolutely agree with that, ive notice that too. One player should always be given the licence to express his talent. Stop putting this percentage football and shackles on this skillful players.

Now they get the ball , their natural instincts would be usually to take players on, play with freedom, but no the coach tells them no square the all to your teamate. Players then gradually lose what they where intially adapt at, they become robotic and less influential

just give them more freedome to express themselves. In SPAIN, LATIN AMERICA they not afraid to dribble take players on , but to be fair they are more technically gifted/trained

my mate told me before that his dad is a sports writer for a newspaper and he told him hands down, no questions, nobody even close to him, Joe Cole is the thickest person he has ever interviewed. Laugh
Report scoobykid August 5, 2010 11:07 PM BST
Rod Hull isnt Ashley Cole suppose to be really dense too? Perhaps its something in the name.

Anyway back on track, I believe im right in saying that Wenger trains his team to play with a man down, im sure this doesnt stem from the fact that he belives one player may get sent off Wenger if your logged in and reading this forgive me if im wrong. But this does lend it self to give players an abiltiy to deal with playing against team with one player on the team who is not necessarily tracking back and tackling all the time. Joe cole is exacty the type of player to play behind the front men and go where he wants, be it pushing further forward and having a shot or round a couple of players in the centre of the park.

The more I think about the more it makes sense to have a player playing this role, if you did this against a rigid zonal system it would confuse things no end and cause endless problems.

Doesn't matter as long as they play football well.
