Close but with Van Bastens injury l would have to plump for Rooney.

I realise you're fishing but il bite. Before all these fools come on saying Rooney, I'd be interested in whwether you'd rather have Shearer or 3 time European Player of the Year Marco Van Basten, in an era when there were a few contenders too. Rooney is Shearer with a slightly better touch, nothing more.

By:
van basten was a great player. Such a shame his career was cut short by injuries
By:
Shearer?? Now you are having a laugh.
By:
no one in their right mind would have rooney ahead of van basten. should get plenty on the forum.

Can you tell me what it is Rooney is better at than Shearer then? In my eyes they're both battering ram forwards with a rocket shot. I suppose Rooney has slightly better dribbling, but he's hardly Garrincha is he? More like Stewart Downing with receding hair.

By:
van basten for me
total forward could head , shoot dribble had the touch unfortunately it was in the days of getting clattered from behind only to see a yellow |
By:
Rooney couldnt lace MVB boots
By:
MVB was a better player than Rooney who is in turn a better all round player than shearer
By:
his overhead kick was awesome
but trevor sinclairs best ever! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q0ANjqm0YY&feature=related |
By:
haha Rs1. Do not mention a player like Sinclair in the same sentence as MVB
By:
course not but the overhead kick was best i ever seen
By:
dont know why people have a dig at shearer
was awesome forward, as good as there was around for me in early to mid 90s scored lots of goals and some belters, he was awesome with his head, rarely gave the ball away and was also a very good crosser of a ball. He played in 3 major tournies 96,98 and 2000. Finished top scorer in 1 and got goals in other 2 |

That is my point sort of Steptoe. I wasn't comparing Rooney to someone awful, just saying he's a good player, but miles away from great. In his play he reminds me most of Alan Shearer, I'm only 26 though so my knowledge isn't fantastic.

ARE WE REALLY HAVING THIS DEBATE
![]() |
By:
I personally wouldnt put rooney above shearer yet
By:
I would not either.
By:
me either.
By:
I would
By:
May l ask how old are you WWCD?
By:
23 and dont say thats why. I think rooney has more in his game, invention, flair than shearer
By:
rooney did f all in world cup
if he played brilliantly he would have been said as best ever dont judge in a small amount of time hes got years ahead . could be best ever or just another shearer good player |
By:
ROOney vs tevez is more appropiate comparison
even though tevez is a 2 time south american player of the year, copa libatadores top goal scorer in argentina and brazillian leagues, scored more goals in world cup finals, had 2 far superior world cups then rooney, champions league and premier league winners medal, saved west ham from relegation and single handedly carried out man city's attempt to grab a champions league spot. A idol at west ham, corinthians, boca, man city and a huge success story in united champions league and premier league double. nOw tell me how overrated is this this shrek called rooney ![]() |
By:
would agree that rooney more creative but shearer a better forward
112 goals in 138 league games for blackburn in 4 years was exceptional also scored so many cracking goals from outside the box, he was far from just a tap in merchant He was brilliant at holding ball up and so rarely gave the ball away |
By:
alesi knows too

only the mugz in england would dare to compare rooney to van basten and gerrad to zidane, but trust me go to spain and they will piss themselves laughing silly
