Former Leicester City player Joe Mattock has pleaded guilty to affray following a fight outside a nightclub.

The 20-year-old defender, of Grove Road, Whetstone, entered the guilty plea yesterday and will be sentenced on September 2.

The attack occurred outside Liquid Envy, in Church Gate, Leicester, on August 30 last year.

Mattock had faced five charges – three of assault causing actual bodily harm, one of assault by beating and one of perverting the course of justice by offering money to one of the male victims.

He had pleaded not guilty to all three and had been due to face trial on Monday.

During yesterday's hearing at Leicester Crown Court, the Crown Prosecution Service altered the charges to one of affray, to which Mattock was prepared to plead guilty.

Prosecutor Jim Thomas said: "It reflects the throwing of punches which resulted in the injuries to four complainants – all captured on CCTV."

Mattock spoke to plead guilty to the affray charge.

His barrister, Stuart Driver QC, asked for the case be adjourned for probation officers to meet Mattock and put together a pre-sentence report to help the judge, Michael Pert.

The hearing is due to be held at Leicester Crown Court on September 2. The CCTV recording will be viewed by the judge.

Mattock was released on conditional bail.

Mattock played 73 times for Leicester. In August last year he signed a three-year contract with West Bromwich Albion for a fee of £1 million.

I like him as a player, think he has a great future ahead of him, but as a person he is a dick. Shame really. 2nd Youngest Under 21 player of all time.

Have fun in the slammer Joey. No way he will get away with all the charges without jail, as the judge explained to him last time he was in court.

Never really saw a great future for him, just an opinion though.
Immediate future looks bleak also.

Immediate future looks very bad, but I think long term he will be ok still. not what was hyped, but top flight without a doubt.

Also, I can see the next 4-5 years him being in the Championship because West Brom don't need him, He isn't Welcome anywhere else in the midlands, and if he wants to play he will need to drop a league.

Iknow it isnt his position but a prison side are looking to replace Marlon King.

He probably wont even go to prison tbh

You should know how it works hornets.

Trying to bribe someone, is a big no no.

Ive never bribed anyone tbh if they can prove cast iron he tried to bribe somone, he will get 6 months if not he will get of with community service

I'm not so sure he would be that lucky. The judge told him if he is found gulity of anything he has a serious chance of going to jail.

4 Counts of ABH, is bad enough, but bribing someone too, is really taking the pish imo, I guess we will see how it goes. As I said, I like the lad on the pitch, so it would be a shame to mess up his footballing life because of a drunken mistake.

Yeah exactly, hopefully he doesnt get a to hefty sentence then. He should of just come clean right at the beggining and got a lesser punishment. I got done for one count of abh and on suspended so 4 counts nah hes fu**ed it, 7 months for each one is 28 months. Then the bribe on top which ranges from 6 months to 2 years, id be suprised if he does get of actually

Yeh but 6 months to a year, means about 3 weeks in jail, then tagged for a month Laugh
Report MMisapr1ck July 31, 2010 2:57 AM BST
Yeah lol if he gets 6 months, be out in 90 days on parole and tag. Can you still play footie with a tag?
Report Onions July 31, 2010 3:01 AM BST
Yeah, marlon King will do, and Pennant (Liverpool player) did as well

He was very ordinary last season and that's being kind. No pace at all and will get skinned alive in the PL.  It's probably a blessing in disguise for us if he does get potted.
