I would be obliged if some of you football lads could give an opinion on a bet a mate asked for

He has an accumulator and part of it is Celtic to win SPL, Dundee Utd to win SPL w/out Rangers and Celtic

Manager phoned bet in and was told these bets were related and could not be placed on the same accumulator

Opinions would be welcome

Thanks

If dundee uts win the league then they have also won it without rangers and celtic, maybe unlikely but still related
Report Veridis Quo July 27, 2010 11:53 AM BST
Given that it's mathematically possible for Dundee Utd to win the SPL outright, it's more related in the favour of the bookmaker in my very honest and humble opinion. Marginally of course, but yes.

what price Utd w/o Old Firm????
Report par July 27, 2010 11:55 AM BST
correct francois, but then the bet is down on Celtic

so as rightly pointed out by veridis quo it favours the bookmaker
Report par July 27, 2010 11:56 AM BST
he was asking for 13/8 ( I think ) with the tote
Report francois July 27, 2010 11:57 AM BST
yes fair point, didnt read that very well did i!
Report par July 27, 2010 11:57 AM BST
I suppose Francois that is the related contingency part, that by doing well, Dundee Utd could conceivably effect the other part of the bet and thus cannot be accepted

Unlikely, yes, but , possible

Then again , how bad the old firm are, not so impossible.

I don't know where people get the impression from that everything bookies do is to screw people. The rules are that related bets aren't allowed, whether it favours the bookie or the customer. Just because in this case it favours the bookie doesn't mean they're going to take it.
Report Veridis Quo July 27, 2010 11:58 AM BST
Because there's a degree of confusion of what can and can't be permed with same-league betting (A to win, B to be relegated etc), bookmakers decide to just call it singles on everything, with the exception of match betting which is slightly different. If I was a bookie I'd take the bet.
Report danny c July 27, 2010 11:58 AM BST
still related fella whether you like it or not. in reality they prob should take the bet but the manager goes by the set of rules he has in front of him!

having taken your comments, he should

Thanks very much lads, much appreciated
Report par July 27, 2010 2:53 PM BST
turns out, they went back in and queried the bet, the bet is perfectly fine and has been accepted

not related
