According to Joey Barton

JOEY BARTON feels that Chris Hughton could soon be a “wanted man” if he can pick up where he left off last season in the Newcastle United manager’s hotseat.

Barton has paid testament to the job done by Chris Hughton at St James’ Park by tipping him to be an international manager in the future.

Hughton already knows the international scene well after being assistant boss to former Republic of Ireland gaffer Brian Kerr. And Barton feels that should Hughton keep up his incredible record he will soon become a wanted man.

Barton told the Chronicle: “We want to be careful that England or Ireland don’t come knocking for him, to be honest.

“He’s done fantastically well for Newcastle and that’s been said on umpteen occasions.

“Every manager is different – he does it quietly and in his way.

“As I say, we probably want to be careful that England or Ireland don’t try to take him off us.

“I don’t know what he’d do then! Being a Cockney he might choose England!

“But he’s done really well.

“He’s a quiet man off the pitch, but he’s loud when he needs to be.

“I can say every good thing in the book about him, but the results are there for everybody to see.

“As a manager in his own right he’s won the Championship by a country mile, and it isn’t an easy league to win. If you can do that you’re an excellent manager.”
