Those of you that are observant will remember my pre season advice for 2009/2010 being successful.

I swam against the tides and boldly tipped Liverpool not to win the Premier League or a lay of Liverpool as it were. Despite the jeers and protests I stood my ground and was proved right. The thread was even graced by the much missed Fat Face EFF.

So this year I have people banging on my door at all hours trying to prize my advice for this season, so here it is...

Back Everton to win the Premier League at 199/1. Now just to be clear this as a trade. The Premier League as a whole is on a downward spiral and only a few teams are improving. Moyes has proved his class over the years and is firmly in a position to hold down a sustained challenge for the Premier League.

Everton's achilles of late has been their slow starts to the domestic season, but with no Europa league this year Everton can only gain in fitness and suffer less injuries.

Aren't Everton traditionally slow starters? That price may be 500/1 by the end of Sept and I haven't heard of any inspirational signings arriving soon.

If Everton can start the season in the same manner as they finished last season then there is value in this. totally agree with AZ comments and if Everton can start well then there will be an oppurtunity to trade.

Not at that price. When I tipped them up last year they were 4.1 and the Racing Post's nap. Everyone was all over them like a cheap suit. They are 16 to lay right now and that is about right.

The Prem is as wide open as it has ever been.

in first 10 games they have spurs, villa bham and fulham away and manu at home, far dos they have 3 or 4 easier home games but dont reckon they will be challenging early doors to kick the price in.....in my opinion, but good luck

Thanks for the considered opinion.

I am using the lack of European competition as a very big positive for Everton's hopes in keeping pace in the Premier League. It's been some time since they haven't had to worry about the burden of the Europa League which will only benefit them throughout the season, but especially early on.

i agree they got a great chance of achieving a higher league posy than 4 a few years, arteta and cahill and saha are key attacking wise but never rated their defence last year which leaked more than my knackered guttering,i reckon, spurs, villa everton, man c and liverpool will be tight but the big 3 in my opinion will get a flyer with the games they got....im not slatting ur opinion just chatting really,i admire a big odds unusual bet,but on this occasion just not for me matey....but il cross my fingers 4 ya

is this like the mugs that were backing serbia for the wc because they might win a few games and trade lower?

You're giving a decent, non-biased view and you're welcome to your opinion mate.

I think the main problem for Everton defensively was down to losing Phil Neville and Phil Jagielka for a large chunk of the season. Also Fellaini didn't carry his previous form through from the season before and was left on the bench for a lot of the opening games. We will see what happens, but i'm happy to take the chance at 199/1. In my eyes Everton are one of the few teams who are on an upward curve.

I can see why you'd think that TAKE ME OUT, but no. I genuinely think they have an outside chance of winning the league this year on a par with Arsenal and Man City. As I stated though it is a trade.

why cause i disagree with you? god this forum is full of fascists.

your going to lose your money anyway if you wait for 10/1, i dont think theyd make 10/1 if they were top at christmas!

Not many. In my eyes there will be no run away pack this year and th top should be congested. The longer the season goes on and Everton are still there the shorter their odds get.

Everton are basically 199/1 because the majority of people see them being 20 points behind at X-mas as per usual. I'm thinking thing will be very differen this year.
By:

When: 26 Jul 10 11:41
I do agree with some of your points, I just wonder a what point the market will agree enough for you to get your 10/1. If the top is going to be congested, the less likely you will get this price.

Does it matter tht Everton dont have a centre-forward worthy of a title winning team.

Saha - sicknote
Yakubu - the new Emile
BEckford - nope
bunch of kids - nope

I see what you mean and you are not wrong in what you have said.

It only takes one of either Man Utd or Chelsea to be off of the pace to relieve the market of 25% and for every game that goes by for an outsider that does keep pace their price will harden.

Ask yourself this...

What price would Everton be joint top with either Chelsea or Man Utd at X-mas. I know this depends on how close all the othe teams are too, but my point is it won't be 199/1.

I with you on if they can keep their players, and keep them fit, and also their team spirit remains, they will have a very strong season. The squad still lacks quality as regards back up in key positions, but the first team is a match for any.
By:
azertyioup_the_4th
When: 26 Jul 10 11:57
For the past few seasons you can see that the quality is there. Yes they are missing back up players, but they have a much less pressured fixture list this season not having to play in that awful Europa League. Another year on and the fringe players like Osman, Rodwell, Anichebi etc have more experience under their belts and can be even more effective.

I would love to be an Everton fan right now.
