I would be delighted if his house got burgled during the game. I was completely neutral about this game until now. That sort of tw*tery has no place in football.

action should be took against the player after that, same with all dives, absolute disgrace
Report History Maker • November 9, 2009 9:01 PM GMT
I agree. The FA bang on and on about players being role models and development of the youth game being great for kid's character and self esteem and then completely fail to act against blatant **ing.

Are the kid's supposed to think that that sort of behaviour is acceptable? It really ought to be an untenable position, but somehow they've got away without much fuss for ages. I used the burglary comment because that too is obtaining something you don't deserve by nefarious means. It would be poetic justice.
Report History Maker • November 9, 2009 9:07 PM GMT
Some legal bod at ESPN is obviously telling them not to say categorically that he dived.
Report stevies5_mufc • November 9, 2009 9:09 PM GMT
lol history maker, what does it matter if they say he "dived"? he clearly did! no contact at all, didnt see him going over to the ref saying "i slipped wasnt a pen" or "was no contact" disgraceful
Report Peil @ work • November 9, 2009 9:10 PM GMT
Well said Danny Murphy.

I watch my son play on Sat mornings, and the number of kids who go down at the slightest touch, holding legs and thumping the floor, it really is sickening.

Make an example of these clowns (ALL CLUBS)
Report johnizere • November 9, 2009 9:12 PM GMT
disagree, history maker.. they're making the most of the dive!
Report History Maker • November 9, 2009 9:18 PM GMT
Yes, they've talked about it a lot, but Stubbs is massively going out of his way not to actually say 'he dived'. There's all sorts of allusion and suggestion about it but they won't simply say 'N'gog **ed'. I will. He **ed.

For the record, I had no money on the game, and have no great affection or disaffection for either team. I support the (not so) mighty Colchester United.

Welcome to Respect
Respect is The FAs programme to address unacceptable behaviour in football on and off the pitch.

So are they going to address Ngog's dive? Most likely not.

It's a bit like the Obama campaign: "Change? Yes, we can! (But we won't.)"

:)

terrible dive

Footballing bodies turn a blind eye to iit e.g eduardo, ronaldo et al

You'll get someone saying tomorrow it was his momentum (Wenger), the games so fast now (Fergie)

Ban the **s
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER • November 9, 2009 9:34 PM GMT
It was a dive without doubt, however I would just like to say that although the ref got it wrong, from his position and in real time, I can see why he got it wrong imo

can't agree there.

he never saw any contact.

therefore he was guessing.

can't give pens on guesswork.

for what it's worth we all said DIVE immediatly.

it just didn't look right.
Report History Maker • November 10, 2009 12:07 AM GMT
Don't get me wrong. I'm not criticizing the ref here. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, not because of bad positioning on his part, but sheer bad luck. I'm sure it looked like a penalty to him, and he has to call it as he sees it.

Unfortunately it's three weeks until Liverpool face an English team away, and that's Everton when the fans would give a hard time anyway, but I would love him to get maximum abuse from fans for as long as possible.

My father's opinion on the matter is significantly more forthright than my own (**ing that is, not this incident in particular). He believes that both diving and drug abuse in sport should be treated as fraud, on the grounds that it is committing deception for pecuniary gain.

It's absurd that if McLeish had criticized the ref for giving that penalty, he would have been censured, but N'Gog would remain unpunished.
Report spyker • November 10, 2009 8:21 AM GMT
A question that nobody seems to have asked: what would have happened if he hadn't dived and carried on running as normal - carrsley would have taken his legs out, ngog would have gone over, carrsley would have yot a yellow and nobody would have argued about it being a pen!
Report maverick • November 10, 2009 8:24 AM GMT
to whoever said that the FA will do nothing about this, you are very wrong - Even as I type they are studying the post match interviews to see if they can charge McLeish or Carsley with bringing the game into disrepute
Report sintonian • November 10, 2009 8:28 AM GMT
spyker - take the goggles off.
Report spyker • November 10, 2009 8:33 AM GMT
Sing- are you saying that carrsleys legs weren't under ngog when he dived over them?
Report sintonian • November 10, 2009 8:38 AM GMT
I am not going to debate that. It's pointless. What Ngog did was pre-meditated.
Report DeSSieReborn • November 10, 2009 8:56 AM GMT

Report funkypunk • November 10, 2009 9:00 AM GMT
Carsley's at fault...if he had not gone to ground...N'gog would not have dived...end of.
Report spyker • November 10, 2009 9:04 AM GMT
It's pointless because you know I'm right! If ngog hadnt jumped (&dived) then carrsley would have taken him out. If carr hadnt dived in then are you saying ngog would have dived like that? It's all about technique and if ngog was as adept at it then other players (owen for instance-yes even when he played for Liverpool!) then we wouldn't be having this conversation. All he had to do was leave his leg in, get the touch (ala many players) and there would be no fuss.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER • November 10, 2009 9:07 AM GMT
I have to say I thought it was a penalty, when seen live (on tv) and that was the same angle as the ref had, the other angles clearly show no contact,
Report Capt__F • November 10, 2009 9:08 AM GMT
Oh Dear
its getting sad when the once mighty Liverpool resort to **ING to beat Birmingham.
Another SAD day for football.
Report maverick • November 10, 2009 9:09 AM GMT
I thought it was a penalty until the replay as well.
Report sintonian • November 10, 2009 9:16 AM GMT
you mean Ngog would have run into Carsley's leg,Spyker. The ball was in front of both of them and had Ng'og not dived hurdled etc he would have ran into Carsley rather than the other way round.

in real time it looked a dive to me, even from the angles. As Mex says, it just didn't look right.
Report SEVENNIL • November 10, 2009 9:22 AM GMT
RP - yeah the ref got it wrong but it was possibly understandable from his view.

This does not absolve Ngog who blatantly **ed his fellow professional.

Worse than Eduardo's in my opinion.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER • November 10, 2009 9:32 AM GMT
I totally agree, ngogs actions were not ones anyone can condone, and I certainly would not try to defend them
I would like to see the club take a stand by announcing he will not be available for selection for the next two league matches, I know many would then think that would not matter because he is a squad player, but this allied to the anti feeling against him wold be a good thing for him personally and football in general

This is the referee who missed the blatant foul on Dunn for Blackburn against Arsenal at ashburton.

Ferguson has a point. The standard is woeful.

Report Shab • November 10, 2009 10:01 AM GMT
All he had to do was leave his leg in, get the touch (ala many players) and there would be no fuss.

And that is the problem in football today. If Ngog had kicked Carsley's leg, there would have been 'contact' and so the argument would be that it was therefore a penalty.

I'll say that again. If Ngog had kicked Carsley's leg. In other words, a player kicks another player and gets a penalty for it.

And thems the rules!
Report Surrey • November 10, 2009 10:02 AM GMT

Report Surrey • November 10, 2009 10:03 AM GMT
Only in England could someone jumping over a tackle and falling over be worse then some idiot sliding in recklessly studs up when a player is going nowhere in the penalty box.

Plant your leg and get fouled like Eduardo. Bloody idiots.

Report Lionrock • November 10, 2009 10:05 AM GMT
Clear dive but have no issue with ref awarding pen. Would have looked a foul from where he was.

Definitely time to bring in a post-match review of these incidents - though can see it been extremely hard to prove 'beyond all doubt' that a player dived - there's just too much doubt a lot of the time. It would have to be 100% clear that he dived to action a ban - and that would be VERY VERY hard to prove.

All said and done though if I was in the liverpool dressing room after that match I'd have patted him on the back and being happy we sneaked a point. Same as i would in a sunday league game.
Report Surrey • November 10, 2009 10:06 AM GMT
It is impossible to probe a player dived. Totally impossible.

Lets go back to people kicking George Best of the pitch.
Report Shab • November 10, 2009 10:22 AM GMT
I think the referee - and only the referee - should be allowed to review the game after the final whistle but before he sees any media reaction. Then he can book players, etc for things he never saw at the time.
Report 1st time poster • November 10, 2009 10:23 AM GMT
carsley was on the floor or in the air and not in control,he says in todays papers he new he was nowhere near him, but forgets to add he was nearer ngnog than he was the ball, maybe he should think about retiring if he cant get near the man or ball,as spyker says the only reason he wasnt near the player was because he got out of the way
Report Shab • November 10, 2009 10:24 AM GMT
he had to step 3 inches off the floor to get over his leg ffs!
Report CailiniDeas8 • November 10, 2009 10:25 AM GMT
lol it's impossible to prove it's a dive. Bollex.

Betn dived, Ngog dived.
