mad paddy

you can disagree with it and argue the case as I am not overly keen on wearing poppies as at present that is what we are fighting over. BUT to call it poppy s*** shows a lack of respect for people far braver than you.

what's the point in wearing a poppy on your football shirt - seriously, what difference does it make?

surely far far better for each player to make a personal donation to the poppy appeal?

why get so worked up about it?
Report Gene Hackman • November 8, 2009 3:02 PM GMT
They've decided against it apparently. This is the same team that will sell the front of its shirt to the highest bidder.
I notice that the Mna Utd propaganda dept. (sky sports) chose to brush that aside very quickly and then told us how Ferguson has met the troops etc etc.
They are are a **in disgrace and so is mad paddy
Report Official BAWDEEPS Spokesman • November 8, 2009 3:02 PM GMT
Correct, I don't tend to sit about with poppies on... just making a point, just because you're not wearing a poppy doesn't mean you're not respectful.
Report tobermory • November 8, 2009 3:02 PM GMT

wasnt the genareal idea of all this to auction off the shirts so the money was raised that way ?
Report chris79 • November 8, 2009 3:03 PM GMT
Do the threads cause you that much concern? Millions die and you aren't prepared once a year to let it slightly intrude on your foottball forum? And even if it really is too much for you to see it on the football forum to call it 'poppy ****' is hugely offensive.

Report mad paddy • November 8, 2009 3:05 PM GMT
slightly intrude?? its come up numerous times. as i said just because they havent a poppy doesnt make them disrespectful. so fck off.
Report Coachbuster • November 8, 2009 3:06 PM GMT
the problem with all the poppy wearing etc is that it creates a shortfall with other equally deserving causes (which is why i'm not overkeen on all the show)

one charity which becomes 'high profile' will benefit at the expense of others .

people can only afford to donate so much
Report Coachbuster • November 8, 2009 3:07 PM GMT
although after saying that £1 in a poppy tin isnt going to break anyone i guess
Report chris79 • November 8, 2009 3:07 PM GMT
I didn't say they were disrespectful i said you were. If you really regard the poppy being mentioned on this forum as a problem you are one hell of a sad c***
Report chop180 • November 8, 2009 3:08 PM GMT
I've just made this post without wearing one. I am utterly ashamed of myself :|
Report sportsjudge • November 8, 2009 3:08 PM GMT
I think you will find they were ALL wearing poppy's on their club blazers when they arrived at the stadium, so i assume the THEY being referred to as disrespectful are the powers that be who made the decision, rather than the individuals representing United today.

its funny how its the man u fans sticking up for them.... nothing new there but this being said its not the players or managers fault and i bet next year they will be having them on the shirts
Report mad paddy • November 8, 2009 3:09 PM GMT
it is when its mentioned so much.peopole making such a big deal when teams dont wear them.
Report spyker • November 8, 2009 3:46 PM GMT
When did poppy wearing on football shirts start & did the people getting upset by it make an issue of it when nobody wore them? It's only started in the last few years and never used to be an issue. As I said on another thread my grandad was a ww1 veteran and he hated the poppy as a symbol as it was originally American and he didn't have a terribly high opinion of u.s. military!

Why are people surprised that Man Utd as a club have decided they're above the idea of paying respect , along with many other clubs this weekend , to previous generations having laid their lives down for something they believe in ?
Some clubs have have decided it's important to them . Man Utd have decided that it isn't . That's all ......
Report Johnnee • November 8, 2009 3:55 PM GMT
It's just the usual anti United brigade. They lead very sad and boring lives and will look at anything possible that will let them have a go at United.
Report mad paddy • November 8, 2009 3:57 PM GMT
just for the record, when i said enough of this poppies sh1t earlier. i meant all the threds that start up cos a team doesnt have them. not being disrespectful to the poppy symbol.
Report JimmyK • November 8, 2009 3:58 PM GMT
why are people accused of being anti Man Utd when they state things against Man Utd. I find it a bad show that they chose not to.

As with Liverpool I believe tomorrow night if what I hear is correct. I will have the same opinion of them for it as well.
Report Johnnee • November 8, 2009 3:59 PM GMT
Jimmy, go and look at my Northwich / Charlton thread ?? Why didn't we have a dozen threads about those 2 teams ??
Report spyker • November 8, 2009 4:00 PM GMT
The poppy is sod all to do with British soldiers - as already stated it was originally American and it has become a symbol to remember all the dead of all nationalities killed in conflicts. If you only remember the British dead then you are completley missing the point of wearing a poppy!
Report mad paddy • November 8, 2009 4:00 PM GMT
apologies jimmyk and the rest if you taught i was disrespecting what the poppy stands for. i wasnt.
Report Birchola • November 8, 2009 4:02 PM GMT

One assumes that includes the freedom to not wear a poppy, or to say what you like about those who wear poppies and those who don't, and indeed to refer to the tradition of wearing poppies in whatever manner one pleases?

It's seems only in the las few years we have been getting this thrown down our throats, no coincidence that the Afgan/Iraq occupation started at the same time.
