The Royal British Legion have today expressed their gratitude to Liverpool FC and its supporters for the efforts being put in place to help raise both funds and awareness for the Poppy Appeal.

A minute's silence will be held before Monday's live televised game against Birmingham City at Anfield and this will be preceded by two service personnel and a Royal British Legion standard bearer placing a ceremonial poppy on the centre circle.

In addition, a ground collection will be held and advertising made available within both the matchday programme and on electronic LED pitchside boards to further raise awareness of the appeal. The match shirts from the game against Birmingham City will also be handed over to the Royal British Legion to auction off to raise additional income for the Poppy Appeal.

David Murray, County Manager of the Royal British Legion, commented: "The Royal British Legion are delighted with the support given to Remembrance by Liverpool Football Club.

"Their generosity in allowing us to collect in their Stadium, their kindness in including a statement in their matchday programme together with the donation of the matchday shirts demonstrates their support of the Poppy Appeal is well in excess of anything we could ever have hoped for. Thank you to Liverpool Football Club and all your Supporters."

iko, can i ask why you choose not to wear one ? dont like them ? dont want to pay the pound for it or what - its not much to ask to show suport for not only those lost in the first & second world war you know the ones that died so we can live as we do today but to show support for the troops who are fighting in the war zones around the world currently. IMO its least any fking person can do is buy and wear a poppy

Finally, please list all your charitible activities over the course of the year and we can all bow down to you as Mr Charity 2009 and wish we had your morals. I trust that it is a long list and you can match the time and money given up by many in this country for worthy cause - including people who don't feel the need to broadcast it to everyone and who, if they wore something regading every charity they support (and my support I mean something substantial, not just sticking a quid in a box) would end up looking like that weidro with the badges in the Kop.

Don't let me down know and tell me that you are another "buy a poppy and little else" moaner who does feck all for charity throughout the year but gets on their high horse about this.

Do you moan at people who choose not to broadcast their support for cancer charities, children's charities, poverty charities, etc too (even though many give up days and huge amounts of cash throughout the year without wearing symbols regarding it)?

Or do you feel that you don't have the right to do so because you haven't stuck 50p in a collection box for those ones?
