Here’s a handy example, using Newcastle vs Man Utd in the Premiership.

You back Newcastle before the game starts for £10 at 5.0. This means that if they win, your total return is £50 (£10 x 5.0). That’s a profit of £40 once you take off your stake.

Both teams miss chances during the first half but then Newcastle take the lead midway through the second and the odds shorten to 1.5, leaving you with a delicious predicament.

You can do nothing and cheer Newcastle all the way home for the full profit, or lay them at the shorter odds to guarantee a profit, no matter what happens.

You know Man Utd are strong in the closing stages and one goal may not be enough. Newcastle are already looking shaky and you don’t think they can hang on, so you lay them on 65 minutes for £25 at 1.5. This means, if Newcastle win, you lose £12.50 to another Betfair customer ((£25 x 1.5) – £25.)

But! This is where the genius of it all comes into play. You’ve already backed them at higher odds than you’ve just laid and really don’t care what happens. You win if Newcastle win. You win if they don’t.

If Newcastle win, you win £40 from your first bet. You lose £12.50 from your second bet. That’s a net profit of £27.50.

If Newcastle lose or draw, you lose the £10 staked in your first bet. You win the £25 from your second bet. That’s a net profit of £15.

WHAT IF

What if i back newcastle and united score first and look like they are going to win?

Any help is much appreciated thank you.

Interesting strategy bordering on genius. How can I use something similar on Xgames? Does this just work on football? Is it limited to Ncle V Man Utd? My head is spinning with the possibilities. The patio door to the garden of riches has burst open before me and there stands my very own pen1s shaped swimming pool, filled with the spit of Himalayan virg1ns.
Fetch my thong, I'm going in.
Thank you, thank you.......thank you.

Relax fellow punter. Put on your finest suit, write a short note to your loved ones, get in the car and set the sat nav for Beachy Head. You know it makes sense.

Thanks for the example though marcus555. Personaly I find trading an extra tax burden, if not done properly. Good luck with it all the same.
