Sadly passed away aged 77 after his battle with cancer.

As enthusiastic a commentator you will ever hear. Rest in peace mate.

RIP John Gwynne.

A personal favourite commentator of mine and for many others on here. He could describe a trip to the grocer's shop to buy a Hand of Bananas and make it exciting.

This was of course helped by his extraordinary vocal range. He could easily ascend from his normal voice to a tone usually only emitted by a yelping owl, disturbed by a rampaging ferret in the nest, then seamlessly switch back to the sort of awestruck reverential whisper, most commonly heard in church when the congregation surreptitiously discuss the coming and goings of the Vicar with some Ebony Dominatrix newly arrived in the local community.

I once also held high hopes of John easily outstripping Sheikh Mohammed as an Emperor of the Turf when one of his equine superstars won a race at Newton Abbott many years ago, but sadly it was never to be.

Nice to see this tribute as well.

I'm sure Alun2005 will change his view about him when he finds out John's son is a labour MP.

I'm fully aware of young Andrew thank you.

JG was actually commentating 'live' on TV (Premier League Darts) on the evening of the 2005 General Election when AG was running for Parliament and there was a very brief mention of his candidacy. (Denton, Greater Manchester constituency maybe???).

Whatever the sins of the son, they should not be visited on the father.
