Well last night was thrilling stuff and tonight looks like it might be equally as dire. I know Silverback is sweet on a lot tonight but personally I'm really not. here's the line up though Happy

Mark Webster v Mensur Suljovic:

Opening match sees former world champion Webster take on The Gentle Mensur Suljovic. Webster has had a miserable few months and hasn't really ever recovered from an awful showing in the premier league. I think he's a very solid player but for whatever reason it's just not really happening for him just now. Suljovic is an odd player to watch with an unorthodox action and is very solid. However he can play some decent darts at times and I think he might be able to take advantage of Webster's low confidence.

Recommendation: 0.5pt win Mensur Suljovic @ 13/8 (General)

Gino Vos v Royden Lam:

Evening's qualifier sees dutchman Vos take on Hong Kong's Royden Lam. Gonna have a small play on this on Lam based on the fact I really don't rate Vos at all and think he's priced up as fav on the fact the bookies have actually heard of him. Lam actually earned a tour card this year at Q-School but only played 3 events so no real form but he came through the qualifier with relative ease it seems and I think he's a live outsider.

Recommendation: 0.5pt win Royden Lam @ 6/4 (SJ)

James Wade v Darren Webster:

I think over time I must have laid Wade at ludicrously short odds more times than any other player pre match and no matter how badly he plays I never seem to collect. He's had well documented issues with bipolar and while I do feel for the guy I don't think it excuses some of his behaviour on the oche when he demonstrates a lack of respect towards most opponents. Yet again I think he looks very short here but is Webster the man to take advantage? He's a former QF at the worlds but the depth in that time was dreadful and he showed his form last year when losing to Mark Walsh in R1. Wade will probably average mid 80's and somehow win 3-0 but I'll be watching not punting.

Recommendation: No Bet

Wes Newton v Vos/Lam:

Newton falls very much into my list of players who thinks they're much better than they are. He's an ok player but I don't think he screams major winner of any tourney let alone a World Championship. Hard to say what will happen till opponent is known but maybe lay the whitewash which has been a decent ploy this year.

Recommendation: No Bet

Kevin Painter v Tomas Seyler:

Tournament finally comes alive with the appearance of King Muttley himself and I for one cannot wait to see him lick his fingers and snarl at the board. In all seriousness I don't think Painter is going to be improving much and while he still wins the odd game on tv I am dubious as to whether he has a run to the later stages nowadays. He plays german qualifier Seyler who hasn't been here in 4 years when he lost in the prelim match and I doubt he will be progressing past R1 here. Struggling to find a bet here so will probably be in my bed before they come on.

Recommendation: No Bet

Summary: Couple of plays on 2 outsiders tonight but not majorly strong on anything. I'll probably also get sucked into laying Wade at 1.1x and doing it in but hey ho. All bets and banter as welcome as always and I await Silverback sharing his thoughts with interest Grin

Went to the boozer after the second set and couldn't take my minces off the TV screens hoping to see Wade hit the 2.5+ 180's - I cringed when Webster had those darts to put the game to bed...I got very lucky there.

Sometimes it's very stressful waiting for the next 180 hoping you don't run out of legs...considering how much I dislike Wade, I'm still wondering just why I made it my final leg - I need my bumps feeling...especially as I didn't think 8/13 was good value Crazy

That situation reminded me of last night when I was hoping Silverback got his second max from Peter Lorre (aka Mr.Moto) who actually had just the two attempts to hit the third treble and nailed both (I'm sure Silver was also feeling very fortunate) so for all the times I whine to myself about a dozen attempts missed for just one more maximum, I'll have to humbly remember this night when my Nemesis did me a favour though I'm STILL waiting for one from Taylor Cry

PS - I bet some of you big hitters are in bulk at me sweating for less than two ton when that's your minimum stake but I'm sure D&B will have some empathy Grin
Report Lori December 20, 2013 12:14 PM GMT
Stake size in gambling empathy should be irrelevant.

I've spent many a day in Vegas sportsbooks sweating a bet of $200-300 while the guy next to me on one side has bet $20 and the other side has bet $20,000 (seriously) and we're all in it together. Everyone bets enough that it hurts if they lose but is worth it if they win (not everyone, but you know what I mean).
Report Navel-Gazer December 20, 2013 2:57 PM GMT
Cheers Lori...I don't feel as much of an outcast now Happy

Just how did Houdini do it YET again?

I read your post (below) and you totally nailed it there squire.

"I think Wade gets away with it because (although not applicable today), no matter how bad he throws, his doubling rarely goes to crap. Means if the underdog does get nervy, he will often have an out.

Compare to someone like Gary Anderson who can batter you and still lose"

I don't care if his figures say something like 20% checkout success...it's always when it really matters he hits them - he'll haemorrhage darts at the double in a rogue losing leg and that will totally skew the stats.

I wonder if Silverback has any notes on players continually winning yet having match darts against them?
I suspect nobody would get near Houdini.
