Taylor appears to have copped the stronger half of the draw this time.

@ ccmac - Grand Prix Starts mon 7th - sun 13th October.

Top 16 in order of merit, from which the top 8 are seeded.
This is where the luck of the draw comes in for those outside the 16.

Jamie Caven's been in tremendous form of late, and as luck would have it, he's pulled Taylor in the 1st round.
Surprised to see Jabba Cool only 3/1 with Taylor as big as 1/4.

1st round - Best of 3 Sets (5 Legs Per Set) Double Start every leg.

Looking at the draw I can only assume that Denis Ovens has been pre-seeded automatically into a Final Play-off match against the winner from the other 32 players?
Report TomTRFC September 25, 2013 11:29 PM BST
A few underdogs who I fancy have a fair chance of winning their frist games (going by oddschecker here):
Jelle Klaasen 11/8 v Anderson
Richie Burnett at 7/5 v Painter
Kim Huybrechts at 13/10 v Hamilton

And outright a few pics:
Barney at 22/1
Chisnall at 33/1
And I honestly think while I do't expect him to win Klaasen at 125/1 is too big.
Report Roger Rover September 29, 2013 2:48 PM BST
How  can he be to big if you don't expect him to win.
Report Toto82 October 1, 2013 1:16 AM BST
Roger that is because if you EXPECT something to happen then you believe it has more than 50% chance and therefore Klassen would have to be odds-on, or at odds of less than 2.0.
I mean I might think Crystal Palace are too big away to Liverpool next Sat but I dont EXPECT them to win
Report Navel-Gazer October 3, 2013 3:29 PM BST
Roger - every aspect of gambling is about VALUE and in ANY event, EVERY candidate has its price!
I remember changing my bet and backing Katchit at 12/1 (first show I think) for his Champion Hurdle despite insisting over the previous months that he was not good enough and a very false price - the market drift to nearly treble the price he once was (around 9/2 I think)  compelled me to back it...alas, New Alco failing to get up later that day cost me well over £3K Sad

Listen to Toto mate...he knows Happy

PS - I'm with D&B & Jabba for a bit of value at 110 (I want more) although he's up against Taylor in R1 - it's a relative sprint and anything can happen in a best of three with a double start.

Ireland's Brendan Dolan returns to the scene of the crime and venue/format that made his name in world darts.
Who could forget his 9 dart double start, double finish! (That must have really pissed Taylor off) Devil

Sky don't miss a trick, and have scheduled the methodic tongued thrower for the last match of the night, by which time the boisterous Irish home crowd will be having a hoolie and chanting from the rafters.

Lewis shouldn't be fazed by the atmosphere, and is throwing lovely darts of late...As is Dolan.
Dare i say it..."It's gonna be a cracker."

The 1st round format - Best of 3 sets, double start is not reflected in the odds.
There's plenty of pluses for backing Dolan, and the huge price on offer stands out.
Also a small interest in the most 180's.

Jamie Caven's been in top form. He's also got a nice sideline "Team Jabba" merch project with endless orders rolling in, and his confidence is bang on. C'mon Jabba! Laddies are swerving Taylor and have dangled a lovely carrot for cone head.

The standards gone through the roof and there's not many easy 1st round matches in the pdc like there were years ago, where many matches were pretty much walkovers and easy pickings for punters having accas.

Make no mistake, this is a tough quarter for Taylor. One of the hardest he's had for a while, but time and time again he takes his darts to another level, and seems to do it with ease.

I watched him on the 1st day of the online comp, (a few weeks ago.) He knew he had to be at his best to get through the gruelling day.
Match after match he picked his game up. It shouldn't surprise me but his determination to qualify on the opening day reached new heights for me as blew Lewis away in the final.

Another match of interest features the current bad boy of darts "James Wade," and ladies fav "Steve Beaton."
Wade's been out of action for a while following his ban and his performances in the online comp seemed to take its toll as he finished rock bottom of the group.

Meanwhile, Beaton's been in fine fettle of late, which included a nicely snaffled Pro Tour Event Win in Germany.
Going by current form, and the format of the Grand Prix, Beaton is another player who looks over priced in a 1v1 match.

I've thrown in some other rags for more than a bit of interest for the week ahead, and hope 1 or 2 will still be standing after the 1st round!

Good effort DandB,im going over and will be there Tuesday night. Some really tricky ties especially with the format as it is but without going daft ive had a 9 timer on first round games. All favs but pays reasonably well.If i had to pick one game as a "certainty"! Shocked It would be Merv King to beat Wayne Jones in the first game on Tuesday night.Whenever ive punted Jones he's played like a pub player yet he seems to get good results on the floor. Not going to get rich at 8/15 but whack on Merv.
Adie Lewis at 10s is my poke for the cup

Lucky you 180. Don't forget the scorecard for the darts forum Grin
Lewis getting dogs abuse and you'll be holding your 10/1 slip - Enjoy it and good luck with your punting.

A good tourny this, as the players have earn't the right to be there with their ranking positions.
I'm small stakes with my bets, so no major head in hands moments.

I completely forgot about the pro tour weekend events prior to the grand prix and missed a trick with Dolan yesterday. He played his 1st round opponent - Lewis in the final of the Players Champs 9 @ Citywest, Ireland.

Result - Lewis @ 14/1 beat Dolan @ 80/1 6-4.

Not sure how much effort the grand prix players will put into today's pro tour event.
For that reason i'm on non qualifier and top grinder Smiffy @ 200/1 e/w vic.
Dolan @ 80/1 e/w - that horse has probably bolted.
Chisnall @ 20/1 e/w vic.
Pipe @ 50/1 e/w vic.
