After reading a comment on here I decided to look up how many times a player had reached a world darts semi with a highest average below 84.08. I can't find stats for the PDC for 2004/2000/1999/1997 (only Bristow didn't reach this figure in the 1997 quarters but I don't know his earlier round-robin stats). All the BDO semi-finalists reached this average 1994 onwards. If all the PDC players for those four years had an average above 84.08 at some point earlier then you are looking at 1986 and Alan Glazier with 80.46.
In his defence, the first I saw of him in a TV tournament (is this just his second one?) was last year...that experience means EVERYTHING and maybe some are being a bit harsh on a kid who has supposedly been stuffing Colin Lloyd for years!
I wonder what Mrs.Jaws thinks of that?
Many have been readily excusing Justin Pipe for years in not transferring his floor form to the TV, and he's had plenty of opportunities and is nearly double Richie's age!

I don't think Richie has done too bad at all. A lot to live up to and plenty of pressure, etc, especially in his first World Championship. He's certainly a long price today, imho.

How anyone can say this is a drab tournament i dont know! The averages might not be to PDC standards but theres been some really close exciting games, ive enjoyed it just as much as the Ally Pally. In terms of Richie he done great to get to the semi's and only been taking the game seriously for a matter of months and sure to get better over the next couple of years when he should become more consistent. He seemed to play badly in a couple of sets but would somehow manage to win the important legs which explains his averages.
Really hoping my fellow Stockport boy O'Shea can do the biz tomorrow, good luck Tony lad!
