I think the question should really be who out of the BDO at present could make any sort of impact in the PDC...it's a short list!
Waites, Bunting, O'Shea & Kist I'd say. Harms looks like he's got more to come in the future and as we know, they usually improve a bit for the move.
When a player like Tony Eccles was strongly fancied for a run in this, that says a lot, and he'd struggle to make the 72 cut in the PDC World Champ's. Many better players than him didn't make the 72 this year.

Would BE interesting to see a 10-32 ranked player come back just to see what happened, Eccles is probaby the closest so far, think he was just about top 32 in the PDC

That was a few years ago mate and he was never really gonna threaten the big guns was he?
Someone like Alan Tabern would've been a very hopeful candidate for this at a big price if he made the move to the BDO...I can't understand how a player of his quality didn't make the 72 at the World's.
Maybe it's what a few of them need, as we've all seen what a confidence booster MVG got from mixing it on the youth tour for a while.

Problem is I suppose any major sponsor isnt going to allow it, becuase of lack of tv exposure, seem to remember even Whitlock not having a sponsor until he went PDC

I'm not having it. Most tried the bdo before leaving for the pdc. IF the bdo world champs is so easy to win then why did the likes of whitlock, chisnall, winstanley all jump ship?
Decker (96 ave) was fav to beat Kist (97 ave) in the first round last year. Kist was one of the less fancied dutch players, yet he still became world champ.
2013: Kist ko'd 1st round!
I could post a long list of names of players bracketed 33-64 in the pdc who i think would have a great chance of winning the bdo worlds. The reality is a lot of them never even got automatic qualification let alone won through the qualifiers.

The top players in PDC are all millionaires. Great tournaments throughout the year not to mention the better floor tournaments
Andersons major record (exlduing 2011) is appalling.

They dont switch because they are not good enough or too old. Only 3 of the top 32 in the PDC averaged less than 88 and only 7 averaged less than 90. Factor in the disadvantage of not being seeded in the PDC they have a long hard wait. Only Waites has consistently shown the level of form over a 2/3 year period to make any impact. If you are not top 32 material you might aswell stay in the BDO

As well as Waites, O'Shea & Bunting could make an impact for sure!
I suspect Bunting could find some extra improvement too and sharpen up his finishing if changing codes.

Teenager Samuel Head (11th and a regular in the PDC youth tour OOM) beat both Eccles and De Vos at the World Masters. I imagine he was allowed to compete because he was a teenager. He also bt Martin Atkins at the Englan Open and they were the only two BDO tournies he entered

I'd have said Bunting would do ok IF he could reproduce his form of the last 6 months, likewise Kist if he could reproduce his form in winning last year. O'Shea is too old for it be worth switching. Dekker and De Graaf have potential.

I think the only thing in the favour of the latter two is their youth, so there's TIME to improve...they'd be MAULED by the top 32 in the PDC - agree with the rest of your comments though.

Hey Zanu, feel free to mock me with your comments All the players you mentioned are ex bdo minus nicholson. Now there's another player who's all hot air.
It's easy to sit and judge the bdo, whilst at the same time, take the piss out of it. Players from both codes stumble upon the same problem, breaking down the door of these establishments to get into the top 32.
Being in the bdo is as expensive as being in the pdc. All need the same thing...A sponsor!

29 players averaged 90+ in PDC worlds, 3 are currently managing that at Lakeside
Id much rather see crowd/venues like Lakeside but even the most ardent BDO fans must be slightly embarrassed by the current standard and lack of big events throughout the year

Take out the top pdc players (most of whom are ex bdo) and it leaves an open field from both codes.
Uncle Barry tried to help the bdo out with his £1 million pound offer. They threw it back in his face. I asked several county players one question:
If the county matches were played on the floor and not the stage would you still play county darts.
All replied: NO.
Darts is an ego thing. The players want to be seen strutting their stuff on the big stage. I don't understand it. 20 years on since my county playing days, and the players still fund the game. I personally think county players are mugs to fork out £1,000's of pounds to be seen on the big stage for little or often no financial gain.
