Sticking tomorrow's up early in case I don't make it home in time for the start. Looks like there's a couple of decent match ups though so hopefully some value is there too
Peter Wright v Arron Monk:
Quite an interesting opener here v a player in Wright who I think makes the most of his talents v Monk who is a former world youth champ. Wright is sometimes better known for his wacky haircuts but he's a player who at times can throw some pretty decent arrers. Monk on the other hand never really impresses me on the big stage and seems to have a reputation that hasn't been justified as yet. I actually thought Wright would have been a little shorter and as such I'm going to have a small bet on him to win the match.
Recommendation: 1pt win Peter Wright @ 4/6 (Willie Hills)
Carlos Rodriguez v John Bowles:
A really good prelim match this v the spaniard C-Rod and the englishman John Bowles. Every time I've seen Carlos I think he's got a nice action and am surprised he hasn't actually made more of an impact on tour. Bowles has the distinction of reaching the last 16 of the UK open as a pub qualifier and is inside the top 100 in the world too. I don't really like to play the best of 7 matches but this could be a really good match so worth tuning in for.
Recommendation: No Bet
Mark Webster v Ian White:
Former world champ Webster takes on Ian White who has started to break through in the last 12 months on the tv. It looks a pick em game but based on form there's only 1 winner for me. Webster has had a really torrid year and has barely won a match of note. He's looking like he has no confidence and I think based on previous years a welshman v an englishman can be expecting some boos from the crowd. White is another player from the Stoke hot bed and he is a really good player in my view. I think based on form alone White can win this as if he gets ahead of Webster he could pull away as Webster head drops.
Recommendation: 2pts win Ian White @ 10/11 (General)
James Wade v Peter Hudson:
Wade starts off v a world championship debutant in Peter Hudson. Its so hard to gauge what Wade's mental state will be like which is a real shame as he's one of my favourite players. He clearly has lots of issues to deal with off the board though and at the moment I find him impossible to support with any confidence. Hudson played at the last 2 UK opens without making a real impact and I don't recall ever seeing him. His nickname is The Rock though which made me chuckle! No bet for me as too many doubts over Wade so can watch it and hope hes in a good frame of mind to play his best darts.
Recommendation: No Bet
Jamie Caven v Rodriguez/Bowles:
Depending on who comes through the prelim and how they perform I'd be keen to take on Caven who never seems to do it on the tv. Impossible to guess how they will play or what sort of a price we will get though so time to revisit it at about 11pm tomorrow night.
Recommendation: No Bet (at present)
Summary: Keen to back Wright in the opener and I think White is the best bet of the matches so far this tourney. Hopefully both justify my confidence in them. All views are as welcome as always and hopefully we can have another evening full of nonsense and good banter HH
Roy Castle? King Kenny? More of a slightly older yet slimmer Matt Le Tissier if you ask me. At least if he loses he'll pull in a packet on the celebrity look-a-like circuit.

And he's right. It sums up an awful lot of what I dislike about the PDC.
They're essentially making several statements, including.
a) his wins didn't mean as much as those of others despite the fact one was v Taylor.
b) they don't rate him in terms of "box office" or ability.
c) They give the BDO credit when it suits them (Barney's titles)
He was also the first champion in this venue FFS.
