A quick glance at the profile of La Flèche Wallonne and you'd think it might be one for the sprinters. The highest point on the parcours in terms of altitude is 258m. However, the profile disguises a horrendous amount of small, sharp climbs that sap the legs. The most energy sapping climb of all is the Mur de Huy, which is taken 3 times in all, including as the final climb. This famous climb is 1300m and rises 128m giving an average gradient of 9.3%, but it tops out at 17% and as such the race is normally decided on this ramp. The Mur really does guarantee a fantastic finish, with positioning coming into the bottom of the climb crucial, and timing of the move of the upmost importance. If they are spot on climbers can be well rewarded here if on form, but this year of all years the top climbers should be here this year as Stage 6 of the Tour de France finishes atop the Mur de Huy.

It will be very interesting to see if Froome, Contador and Quintana line up in this race. No bet for me at this stage, although I do have an idea of who I'd like to back if the prices are right.
