Stage 2

I've got a bet for this for tomorrow. I think Ladbrokes have made quite a rick offering 8/1 about Tom Boonen. Boonen has won this race 4 times outright and an incredible 22 stages in total (no-one else in the race has won more than 2). He showed with his second place finish today that he is bang in form.

Looking purely at the profile 8/1 would be about the right price, but this won't be your typical sprint stage. The wind plays havoc in the desert. Today's stage 1 was mainly tailwind until the finale. Even so, there was carnage as major contenders for the sprint like Kittel and for the GC like Wiggins were dropped. There's every chance the wind will be up even more tomorrow and more importantly that we'll see crosswinds.

Teams like Etixx-Quickstep, Trek and Saxo are masters of splitting the peloton in the crosswinds and Boonen is the absolute master of taking advantage of these conditions. Boonen is as short as 11/4 in places, and the next biggest anyone has gone is 5/1 (Pads). Boonen's Quickstep team is absolutely choc full of classics specialists who will know exactly how to take advantage, and if it is a reduced bunch sprint, which I think is a foregone conclusion, Boonen can beat all but the very fast men. And there's every chance that the ones who can beat him won't be there cos of the wind.

Of the other contenders, Kittel who Lads have at 5/4 is by miles the fastest but there's every chance of a repeat performance from today if the winds blow. Demare, Sagan and Kristoff are all worthy contenders, but I'd expect Boonen to have more team mates left at the end. Overall I think he's a very solid each way bet at 8/1.

Am I missing something?

Sagan to beat Stannard in the ITT tomorrow is so short. If I'm not missing something surely Stannard is a bet here.

Standard beats Sagan by 36 seconds. Seems like people are just hitting the big names, some decent value to be had taking the Pinny match ups.
