Ive ridden both the Tourmalet(in reverse) and Hautacam from the valley floor @ Argeles Gazost. Cracking descent off the Tourmalet. Enjoy in a peverse kind of way. |

Wow that was hard. Completed it in 8hrs 14. Found the descent of the Tourmalet in the cold and rain especially troubling, and the Hautacam was just plain tough.

13,000 cyclist in the pissing rain was no fun (on the previous Thursday it was 37 degrees)

Yeah, Thursday and Friday were boiling (it touched 42 in Limoges on the Thursday). Saturday was sultry. Sunday was carnage. The village at the bottom of the Tourmalet descent was like a scene from a war film with refugees everywhere.

(the very same route Tour de France pros will ride on Thursday July 20th, 2017 in Stage 18). Distance: 181km, Elevation: 4000mt Temp: 27°culminating in two 20km long climbs to over 2,000mt (firstly Col de Vars at 2,109mt, level 1) and a historic finish for a Tour stage - the climax arrives after 160km with an average gradient of 9% at 2,360mt - the Col d'Izoard. |
