Kiwi's 100-3 after being put in.
England will be ok with that.

291 for 7 at the close.

A very average day's cricket with some daft dismissals on the part of the NZ batsmen keeping England in the game.
The whole day had a 2nd Eleven feel to it.

Why do they persist with Archer? Very lucky man.

What a shambles this morning. Far too many short pitched balls going to the boundary. When the only wicket with the new ball is spin, there is something wrong with the fast bowlers.

Yes there are no bowlers these days who can bowl line and length and build pressure.Too many easy fours.

We had a good line and length bowler until he was forced to retire.

Will need a big ton from someone for England to get  to get 400.

Far too much emphasis on short pitched stuff these days. Baffling that England keep persisting with such tactics whatever the situation.

The Oval pitch looks fine, although overhead conditions today should be helping the bowlers.

Most dismissals have been soft so far, caught off hoicks or strangled etc.  NZ could easily have batted England out of the game with a bit more application from their top order.  Root should be able to bat all day on this wicket Grin

First time I have seen Rew or Cox in action. Wish them well.

Like the look of James Rew. Hope he and Cox can put a stand together.

Unfortunately Rew isn't a keeper.

Jordan Cox is a decent keeper but rarely gets the gloves for Essex. Which is ironic as that is one of the reasons he allegedly left Kent - to be a first choice keeper.
Kent fans were not too happy that he left when he did, after the county had made him in to a very good player.

As it turned out , had he actually stayed at Kent then he most probably would have been our keeper now, as Billings stepped down from the 4 day side.

Rew is certainly not a test class keeper on what we have seen so far, dropped catches and 22 byes in the first innings Shocked

So why were both Rew and Cox included in the team? Cox bats at 7 and doesn't bowl! He did score a respectable 27 but is that what he was selected for?

Cox is a better keeper than Rew so should have been behind the stumps for this game.

He averages 43 in first class cricket , pretty good. He should be batting higher and is wasted at 7.

For Kent he began as an opener, as a 19 year old in 2020 he and Jack Leaning put on a partnership of 423 for the 2nd wicket against Sussex ( an all time record for the county for any wicket). Cox scored 238 not out.

He was born in Margate, same as Ollie Robinson. Shame Ollie wasn't fit to play as i doubt two guys from Margate have ever represented England at the same time !

the world record run chase in test matches is 418.

In 150 years of test cricket, only four times has a chase of over 400 been successful.

New Zealand are currently 450+ in front with 3 wickets left.  And yet England are only 9/1 with most bookies to win Laugh

Well England made a right dogs breakfast of that. Terrible batting techniques, as is the modern way.

Stokes and Atkinson's "punishment" for their late night indiscretions amounts to a slap on the wrist, with the former seemingly reinstated as captain for the next match according to his mate McCullum. What an example to set for young players Sad. This errant pair were back playing for their counties this week but have been ridiculously pulled out halfway through by the ECB, showing complete contempt for the county game. It's disgraceful. What harm can playing two more days do ffs.
The ECB seem intent on destroying the county set up and should hang their heads in shame.

Must pay credit to NZ in this match, an excellent performance from them. Matt Henry is a superb bowler, disciplined to the max. Our bowlers please take note as he has shown how to bowl to get wickets on what was a decent batting track. He had a couple of fine years at Kent a few years back and it was a travesty that the county didn't pull out all the stops to get him to rejoin us.

Have to admire New Zealand, play the game the right way.

Well deserved.
