I remember when test matches were talked about everywhere, now nobody cares bar hardcore fans. Well done cricket big wigs signing it all over to sky..and taking it off terrestrial.

100%,agree . used to be great esp on bbc, ben &hed cup, gillettev cup. john playerb league on sundays, along the tests

I was a little lad when the John Player league started on BBC2. Our tv could only get BBC1 so every Sunday i would go round my aunt's place where she kindly let me sit glued to her TV all afternoon with my obligatory scorebook, never missing a ball. A real bonus if my boys Kent were playing.
The BBC coverage was always top notch, i used to watch the Tests and all the County One Day games no matter who was playing, great memories. Nowadays the calendar is all over the place and although i still follow the game it just doesn't feel the same  the less said about the ruddy Hundred the better  |

BBC used to share it with racing, show jumping, F1 and news bulletins and not bother with tours - even Ashes tours for the most part..
so not sure it was that great but a non-exclusive deal with satellite tv would certainly have been better...they decided to take short term financial gain (of exclusivity) over bigger picture as has happened with county cricket and the 100 franchises...pretty much guarantees that it will never gain the traction it could but then it's an expensive sport to play unless clubs have some noteable financial backing |

The BBC can't afford any international sport apart from Snooker and Wimbledon. Do you want to pay £500 a year for BBC or not? I like Sky coverage.

Sage, Sky pay the ECB approx £220m annually at the moment for full cricket rights.
The BBC collect nearly £4 Billion in Licence fees every year. So quite why you think the licence fee should treble to enable the BBC to bid to cover such sport escapes me. |

The BBC to be politically correct would have to give the same coverage to many other sports but point taken. Can't get my head round £4 billion. How much of that goes on light entertainment which should be scrapped.

They also get approx £2 billion extra revenue from other sources Sage, so £6 billion in total.
There is a lot of wastage as you can imagine. The new DG is at least showing signs that he wants to sort things out, with cuts being made in some areas of news coverage, which is one of the bloated depts full of gravy trainers. Hopefully other areas will be looked at as well. |

sky test comms box when gower, mikey, bumble, beefy, ath, nass, warne + an overseas, willis & (well) charles on verdict
top class coverage imo until they took an axe to it now I don't watch any of it |

every sport seems to be full of women opining on the men's game
that is also a massive turn off imo |

Thats correct wonders -although some ,including the usual suspects on here , would that sexist
 Women ex players telling us what its like to bowl/face extreme pace is laughable when the fastest delivery clocked by a woman bowling is 82mph. |
