Pakistan's matches have been switched from India to Sri Lanka for political reasons and now Bangladesh are threatening to refuse to play in India.

So Bangladesh have withdrawn, meaning Scotland take their place. Now Pakistan are still not happy and may still pull out as well.
Its all a bit farcical, i wish they would keep politics out of the sport.

Scotland in England's group; with respect to them Bangladesh could have been an handful in sub continental conditions so England may have dodged a bullet. Then again they have lost to Scotland before in a tournament Grin
Report DixieDean60 February 5, 2026 4:09 PM GMT
Tournament starts this Saturday and will likely feature a number of heavy defeats in the group stages for the minnows.

No real point in backing on the outright market at the moment as it is difficult to see any of the big guns not qualifying for the second stage.
If there is any value then maybe Pakistan at 14s as long as the politics gets sorted.

At this point i will have some speculative top batsman and bowler bets for some interest, Mitch Marsh and Jos Buttler could cause carnage at the top of the order against the lesser bowling attacks and are available at about 12s to 14s with the bookies. Ryan Rickleton of SA is an interesting outsider at 33s.

As for the bowlers, Adam Zampa is always worth considering although short enough at 8s generally - Arshdeep Singh at 20s and Shaheen Afridi at 25s likely outsiders.

Considering it's a World Cup the build up has been very low key and its also now competing against the Winter Olympics for media coverage. Once the initial group stages are out of the way interest should pick up.

There has been no real acknowledgement in the media of the England U19s reaching their World Cup Final which takes some doing. Maybe it's because they tend to play sensible cricket rather than Bazball !  They have been excellent so far but now come up against an India side in the final tomorrow who have a stellar top order, it will be very interesting to see how they get on, fingers crossed they emerge victorious.
Report DixieDean60 February 6, 2026 3:32 PM GMT
I did mention India u19s had a formidable top order but even i did not expect them to rack up 250 by the halfway point of their 50 overs.
That was the point at which the absolute phenomenon named Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed..... for 175 including 15 sixes - he's FOURTEEN YEARS OLD !!
This lad is unbelievable and surely has the potential to be one of the greatest ever - he's already scored a ton in the IPL at such a young age.

God knows how many they would have racked up if he batted through the innings but they still managed a towering 411 in their 50 overs.
England made a very good attempt, reaching 172-3 after 20 overs but then lost four wickets for three runs, eventually 311 all out with still ten overs left.

That must go down as one of the worst overs I have ever seen - 2 no balls ?
Report DixieDean60 February 11, 2026 1:52 PM GMT
Shocking over from Rabada indeed but he got away with it thanks to the daft run out, there was no need to go for that second run with 2 balls still left, but having done so he should have dived to make his ground.
In the second super over, i reckon if the Afghan had left that last ball it could have been given as a wide again.
Close to a fine win but no cigar.

Ireland were disappointing with the bat against Oz. However 4 wickets for Zampa gets my top bowler bet off to a good start.
Not so good is one of my top bat picks and the unfortunate (and rather painful Mischief) injury to Mitch Marsh earlier, looks like he could even be out of the tournament. Ryan Rickleton doing ok so far though so all is not lost.

England bowling unimpressive again. Batting not much better and again reliant on Jacks slogging at the end of their innings to get a decent score.

Manenti got a bit carried away and holed out otherwise things may have been very different. He played superbly though. Grant Stewart also hammered a few sixes, almost got them in contention at the end.

The thing is with this format, as average as England have been they will still have every chance of winning the trophy and are in the easier section of the Super 8's (at least on paper Grin). also in their favour is they now play games in Sri Lanka which presumably will help their spinners.
Report TCat February 16, 2026 3:21 PM GMT
Was about to criticise England's performance when along come the Aussies with 13 for 5 in their last 3 overs. DD is right though England may go on and win the comp due to the format as might the Aussies.
Report DixieDean60 February 16, 2026 5:09 PM GMT
The Aussie hopes hanging by a thread. if Zimbabwe avoid defeat against Ireland they are out. Plenty of rain about tomorrow as well......

That batting collapse by Oz was bad enough but the bowling was arguably worse.

Atherton TC !

Sri Lanka batted like complete novices today, they had looked good up until now. England weren't much better, Salt apart.

The weather forecast was awry - yesterday they said there would be not much hope of play so England got a bit lucky there.
One win from the next two games should be enough for the semis.
Report TCat February 23, 2026 12:58 PM GMT
On current form I wouldn't fancy England to beat either SA or WI in the semis; that said it only takes one decent partnership in a T20 game to win a match so all's not lost. 7/1 a fair price to effectively win three games.

I had to smile when, with NZ needing just 17 from 48 balls with 9 wickets left, the captain of SA had a long chat with his bowler, as if they were going to come up with some magical plan that would win them the game.

What happened next? Four, Six, Six and Four! Game over!
Report DixieDean60 March 5, 2026 10:15 PM GMT
A seemingly narrow defeat for England today although in truth it was more comfortable than that for India.

Hats off to Bethell and also Jacks for giving us hope but you can't bowl as badly as England did and expect to get away with it.

Archer going for 61 in 4 overs Cry

Mind you the Indians bowled a fair few pies as well. The NZ openers will take advantage if they repeat that in the final.

Whatever happened to yorkers ? You can't hit them for six too often ! Modern day bowlers are either incapable of producing them or more likely under orders to bowl in the manner they do. They used to be the delivery of choice for quicks when under pressure at the end of an innings.
Report Try My Best March 6, 2026 6:45 PM GMT
Spot on Dixie. A game Poms should have won and Brooke should be ashamed of himself for dropping that dolly. Truly shocking fielding. Bethel knock was tremendous.
Point about yorkers is so correct but almost seems like they cant bowl them anymore. So many half trackers and leg side deliveries made it so easy for India to score. Bumrah incredible again.
Report The Dragon March 8, 2026 12:52 PM GMT
yup spot on also re your comments dixie. why bowlers cant bowl yorkers these days is beyond meCrazy

hoping that NZ can win todayCool
Report DixieDean60 March 8, 2026 5:47 PM GMT
And as if by magic Jasprit Bumrah provides a text book example of how effective yorkers can be, maybe he reads these hallowed pages Grin

It beggars the question - what exactly are our one day bowling coaches getting paid for ? And other teams coaches of course. If we can see it, why can't they ?

India very worthy winners, just a shame NZ didn't really turn up today - putting the Indians in after winning the toss was surprising and maybe not the wisest move given how good the hosts are with the bat.
