what a bunch of jokers - didn't even use up half of their overs ! Someone should have told them it's not the wretched Hundred any more
I've said before that they are overrated and this proves it. Trouble is Key, McCullum, Stokes and co are too arrogant to change their ways.
At least they should be able to save on the electric bill

England one of the fav's to win a World T20 trophy but pretty average when required to construct an innings over 50 overs , different techniques required.

Indeed Hayden, 50 overs is a lot longer than it may seem. The gung-ho from the start seems to be endemic in County cricket as well, i was surprised to see just how many innings ended prematurely in the One Day Cup this year, too many players do not build an innings as they used to back in the day.

hardly surprising that since the ecb put 50 over cricket along way to the back of the queue in its list of money making priorities england's 50 over performances have fallen off a cliff. england's young batsmen have hardly ever played a domestic game and even the likes of buttler and root have played infrequently in the last 5 years
schedule didn't exactly help either. a lot of the players involved in the 100 right to the end then 1 day off before a game at the other end of the country and then another drive back to london so no training or preparation at all for the first 2 games and they wonder why they play so badly ?

All of this dishing out central contracts to youngsters like Bethell needs to stop.
What he needed this year was to be playing county cricket, gaining experience.

Look at Sonny Baker the other day, gets flayed by Markram and then dropped for today. He should have been gaining more experience at county level before being thrown in at the deep end like that just because he bowled a couple of good spells in the wretched Hundred .

Type of target that needed a Livingstone kinda knock in mid-innings so the latter stages could be steered over the line with orthodox cricket at 7 or 8 an over.

On the point the other day regarding the use of Batsman vs Batter , Atherton needed the reference 3 times last night and chose Batter each time and listening to others it seems the term Batsman is rarely used.
The ones that don't like it looks like they're stuck with it.

Unfortunately Hayden, the wokies at the MCC changed the laws of the game to incorporate the awful word "batter" to replace batsman.
That's why the commentators and pundits feel obliged to use it, anyone who didn't would get cancelled i reckon !
I will always say batsmen/batsmen.

Laura Robson in talks with TNT Sports about surprise role fronting Ashes in Australia Robson has been pundit since retiring from tennis TNT has offered on-the-ground reporting role Matt Hughes Thu 11 Sep 2025 17.18 BST Share Laura Robson is in talks with TNT Sports about a surprise role fronting their live coverage of the Ashes from Australia this winter.
The junior Wimbledon champion and mixed doubles Olympic silver medallist has made a successful transition to broadcasting since her premature retirement from tennis three years ago, working as a pundit for both TNT and Sky Sports, but England’s tour to Australia would be her first major TV job outside tennis.
TNT is understood to have offered Robson an on-the-ground reporting role throughout the five-match series, with its main commentary and punditry being provided off-site in Europe. The 31-year-old was born in Melbourne to Australian parents before moving to England at the age of six.
This will be quite interesting. She is a pretty smart girl. If she was born a Convict she must know something about cricket. I haven't seen her broadcast yet but she is no dummy.

Remember her entering the WTA circuit WD and because she got off to a promising start and we're so thin on the ground in ladies tennis we claimed her as one of our own , but when you need to use mixed doubles Olympic silver medallist at the forefront of your CV you can guess how that career panned out. Remember her at WTA interviews and such and she came across well enough tbh , here's hoping.

To compensate for the above appointment, Ebony-Jewel Cora-Lee Camellia Rosamund Rainford-Brent has been offered the role of fronting Eurosport's coverage of the 2026 Australian Open tennis.
Providing there is enough room to fit her name on the credits.

Bit of a non story who presents it..they used someone with no sporting pedigree at all previously with Cook and Finn in the studio (India tour possibly ?)
nothing worse than Gower answering his own questions when he presented..
the lack of onsite commentary I think is a problem, would rather take the Oz feed even as you can miss out on nuance from the ground and they rely on the monitor than your own eyes when the latter is sometimes useful..
sky clearly not bothered enough to put in a winning bid...#home of cricket
